TDF v PCM - Stage 5
SN's Tour de FranceStage 5 - Chablis to Autun

Sylvain Chavanel and Phillipe Gilbert were the strongest of the breakaway but they were caught near the finish. Popovych attacked but ran wide in the descent, and despite a late attack from Millar and Florencio, the survivng sprinters battled it out. The big news was that Vinokourov lost over a minute and both he and Kloden are now injured.

1 Filippo Pozzato (Ita) Liquigas                                            4.39.01 (39.67 km/h)

8 Stefan Schumacher (Ger) Gerolsteiner

The peleton was still 120 riders thick as it made its way up the final climb. It split though, forming a lead group of 60 odd. Pozzato was a notable exception. The split left just 2 sprinters in the lead group, Robbie Hunter and Oscar Freire. Hunter took Freire's wheel and the sprint helped them pull away from the rest. Hunter could not get past Freire so Oscar took the win. There were no timegaps though.

Top class realism today as Phillipe Gilbert was the last survivor of the days break, being caught in the final descent. That's where the realism ends. Hushovd was the strongest in the sprint as Feillu took a surprise 2nd.

Real Name
Ballan, Knees, De La Fuente and Landaluze formed the break but were soon all going solo infront of the pack. They got caught and more sprinters made it to the sprint tpday, although some, e.g. O'Grady, Boonen and Hunter were too far back to actually go for the win.Hushovd led out the sprint, followed by Fischer and Freire. Hushovd looked to have it but a very late lunge for the line sealed it for Freire.
