Cyanide finally talks: Here's what to expect from PCM13
Pro Cycling Manager 2013

With just three months left to the release of Pro Cycling Manager 2013, it's about time that the first news about the game start to surface.

And luckily for us, they just did. PCMFrance (link in French) has interviewed Cyanide's Clément Pinget about the upcoming game, and below you'll find the main conclusions.

Gameplay
This seems to be the theme of the year. First of all, it appears we'll see a new graph/bar in PCM13 which indicates the riders' freshness and recovery between stages. If you've been in a 200 km long attack two days after each other, the energy bars will be reduced on the next stage.

The much critiicized accelleration stat has finally been 'fixed', so there's now a difference between an explosive rider and a diesel engine (Contador and Basso, for example). This stat will also affect the strategies and tactics used by riders and teams.

It also seems that the AI will be more aggressive in stages where the human player does not take control/initiative.

Cyanide also also planned to make cobblestones more difficult.

Career
For those of you who have been playing PCM for years, you may remember a time when riders were asking to race in specific races. Well, it seems it's returning in some form. Riders will be asking for certain races and goals throughout the season, and following(not following these will havesome sort of impact  (rewards and penalties are mentioned in the interview).

The race planner that was added in PCM12 has been developed further, so it's now possible to group riders into e.g. Ardennes, Tour de France etc.

It is also planned to add more interactions with the sponsor (in terms of goals, possible budget increase), but this hasn't been added to the game so far.

Graphics
I may have overlooked this piece of news, but it appears there's a new shirt format coming. It's the same as the previous one, except now doubled in size (910x626) to make it HD. This also means that PCM13 jerseys will be compatible with PCM12 - you'll just have to reduce it in size.

As a minor detail to this shirt change, it sounds like PCM will now use .png files rather than .tga.

There's a bunch of new animations to look out for in PCM13, as (maybe?) discovered by lluuiiggii a while ago.

In terms of the stage editor, there's two new graphic kits for stages (Corsica being one of them), more houses/homes, new objects for creating beautiful sea shores and the possibility to play with HD textures.

Graphic Interface
With the new rider control panel, people on higher resolutions claimed it was too small. It will be possible in PCM13 to increase the size of the rider panels.

It will be possible to open a map of a stage to make it easier to foresee changes in wind direction, for example.

Multiplayer
Two new multiplayer modes, according to Cyanide. However, don't get too excited. One of them is in the integration of track racing in Armada. The other is a new tour mode which allows you to create stage races (as friendlies, won't count towards the Armada ranking.

Starting to take a few steps in the right direction in terms of Gameplay and Career...
but then some bullshit about Armada being expanded and some non-important graphical changes...
Hard to get excited at the moment

Well, it's good news.
#3 | superider2010 on 19. March 2013 11:05
they don't understand the term "new mode","changed" and "switched"
they switched track with friendly road.so why it's new to pcm?
friendly road race it's comming bsck as it were before pcm 2012,why it's new for pcm?

online no progress this year
#4 | Abelbaba on 19. March 2013 11:26
on the other hand, the career changes do sound good
#5 | cactus-jack on 19. March 2013 13:16
Sounds good, but I'm not applauding yet. I want to see with my own eyes that riders prefered races and sponsor goals actually matter.
#6 | fcancellara on 19. March 2013 14:18
Good news, but it means loads of shirts will have to be recreated. Oh well, I better start making my shirts in the HD format from now on Pfft
#7 | Jesleyh on 19. March 2013 15:19
#6 But it's better than having to make a complete new shirt, isn't it?

This seems good news to me, I can't wait to see the career and gameplay changes. I hope Cyanide doesn't disappoint me Wink
#8 | Alakagom on 19. March 2013 16:14
Disappointing so far tbf from career point of view. The career changes seem to be minor at best. '

However they did seem to look at gameplay so I am happy about that. And FINALLY they have ''recovery between stages". I hated when riders could win KBK and Omloop from 60km attacks and other scenarios like that.

Overall, good news, however the career part of the game seemed to be missed out again tbh.
#9 | Ian Butler on 19. March 2013 16:32
Gameplay and career seem like nice changes.
#10 | lluuiiggii on 19. March 2013 16:53
HD shirts? Now that's great news, I hate how the shirts look so awful when you look closely at them Smile I hope the old shirts will still be compatible without needing to be changed, just not in HD. At least that's sort of how it goes with equipment (e.g. 512x512 or 1024x1024 doesn't matter).

The gameplay and career seem to have some nice additions. One of the key things concerning gameplay is still riders not being dropped in the mountains, but I guess we'll have to wait for the actual game to know if that'll be any better. Anyway, I find these news much better than the first ones about PCM12 Smile

I wonder no one said this here:
Finally accleration is actually accleration
#12 | DJSirMatthew on 19. March 2013 18:01
#8 between stages I read as stages from a tour not 2 separate races in 2 days like KBK and Omloop. So I'm afraid it will still be possible to attack 100K in KBK and again the day after in Omloop...
#13 | bigggassi on 19. March 2013 18:11
i like the acceleration thing and the in between recovery. But to be honest, these are very small things, I hoped to see more improvements at this date.
#14 | FroomeDog99 on 19. March 2013 19:12
Sounds disappointing, only some minor issues have been changed. I'll still probably buy it though Pfft
#15 | valverde321 on 19. March 2013 19:39
#11

But why would acceleration even matter when you cant create a gap attacking on climbs/hills anyway? Pfft
#16 | searmh on 19. March 2013 20:25
Pcmfrance translation states that there are more management changes to be revealed......God I hope so
#17 | CrueTrue on 19. March 2013 20:43
#15: I've been complaining about that for years and can't really be bothered to play as long as attacks in mountains are worthless - so yeah, definitely hoping something is done (both to this particular problem, but also to the mountain AI in general).

Other than that, I'm just hoping for the return of a proper multiplayer mode. Still can't believe it's as bad as it is. 1 round of keirin, then start over. No mini tours. I could go on. Fix it, fix the mountains, and I'm happy.
#18 | Miguel98 on 19. March 2013 21:29
Il'l be surprised if they change mountain's AI. Still, since PCM 10 I can't create gap's in mountain stage's. At least decent gap's.
#19 | baseballlover312 on 19. March 2013 22:03
So basically they are releasing a PCM 12 patch?
#20 | ShortsNL on 19. March 2013 22:16
I really hope they make the game Large Adress Aware so it can utilize everything on 64-bit systems and more than just 1.8 GB or RAM.... I have another 6.2 GB to spend T_T
#21 | Avin Wargunnson on 20. March 2013 05:45
Not impressed, as others said, these little changes sounds like mouth-shuters, while there is like dozens of changes needed in managerial part and completly rebuilded AI,especially in mountains. Hopefully we will have some major problems solved, some of that are ardressed by community for years.
#22 | Avin Wargunnson on 20. March 2013 05:46
And more interaction with sponsors seems nice, but i have my doubts about it being functional.

Also Alakagom, i think the energy bar decrese will be only in stage races, from one stage to another, not day-by-day calendar-wise.

But one can hope. Smile
#23 | valverde321 on 20. March 2013 06:01
#17: Likewise. I have become pretty bored of the game as I love playing mountain stages the most, but I can never really execute them the way I like to, which would be attacking early on holding on to a gap or atleast being joined by a select few and not another 150 riders. OR a solo win anyway.

Also no mention of this, but what about the peloton "sitting up" bug. This has really ruined PCM 12 for me, as I have seen it first hand in the Man Game as well as with the leader of the Giro in one of my saves who lost 14 unnecessary minutes on one stage and the Pink in the process. First off its basically just a fix for a bug they dont seem to want to fix. Theres no real use for it in PCM (especially with solid rider bodies). I once looked away for a minute, missed the initial gap and spent 5km trying to attack out of the group that was travelling 5km/h up a climb because he couldn't get past the other riders.
#24 | Ian Butler on 20. March 2013 10:15
In the French interview:

- Will there be Cyclo-cross?
: This is expected when Mourey becomes World Champion. He failed to do so now, maybe next year Pfft
#25 | Aleakez on 20. March 2013 10:24
i guess they didn't release everything at once so hopefully a bit changes in the manager section but im pretty happy with the Basso/Contador one, but for god sake fix the sprint bugs Smile
#26 | kaiser on 20. March 2013 12:10
In your opinion, does this mean that pcm will again feature a possibility to sit and play a Tour, Giro or Vuelta against friends through Local Area Network or online with the "real" teams???
#27 | CrueTrue on 20. March 2013 12:20
Sounds like it, yes. Not on LAN, though - only online.
#28 | fenian_1234 on 20. March 2013 22:17
I've been playing mountain stages (in fact all stages) pretty much the same way since I first picked up PCM back in the days of CM3 - that is with the 'dot'. Attacks have always been just about worthless - won't be holding my breath for them to finally work on any stage. Sad Still, would be great to be proved wrong.
#29 | Selwink on 21. March 2013 06:56
No development teams in careerSad
But for the restBanana

I am desperately gonna need a new PC for this
#30 | mowinckel91 on 21. March 2013 07:29
This sounds more like a patch than a new game Sad
