Stage Profile

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/profile.png

I think this has to be considered as the queen stage of the race. The riders finish atop the Battlement Mesa climb, after they've done it two more times before the finish. It's a HC category climb so it can't get much harder than that. As a result there are also 60 KOM points on offer so that classification might be decided here today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0001.jpg

As expected on a day like today we get a big breakaway group. There are 18 riders here including some good climbers aiming for the stage win:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0002.jpg

The breakaway start the first ascent of Battlement Mesa just less than 5 minutes ahead of the peloton. It's a long, hard climb. 15.7 km in length with an average gradient of 7.7%.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0003.jpg

You have to be near the top of your form if you want to figure anywhere on a day like today. It's not going to happen for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/see.png Main who already drops from the lead group.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0004.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ipc.png Alexander and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eve.png Riccitello will also struggle to make it back if they're dropped 5 km from the top. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Laas follows suit, his days in the polkadot jersey look numbered.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0005.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Langellotti and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/aab.png Zegklis also cannot keep up with this tempo.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0006.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Quintana's time to drop. Still 2.5 km to the top.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0007.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eus.png Munoz reaches the top 1st. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Lafay makes sure he is 2nd which puts him in the KOM lead.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0008.jpg

The peloton crests the climb almost 9 minutes behind the race leaders. Simba Cement are the team that have to work as they've seemingly already burned through a significant part of their squad.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0009.jpg

The first ascent has given us a good idea of who the strongest riders are in this group, but let's recount who is still here:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/see.png Rachidpcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/snz.png Power
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ipc.png Pradopcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spr.png Hibatullah
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mck.png Cabrerapcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Lafay
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/anz.png Fabbropcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ofg.png Raileanu
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Buitragopcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/iec.png Bernard
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eus.png Munoz

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0010.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ofg.png Raileanu drops and I think this is it for him. It's hard to come back if you lose contact at this point.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0011.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Lafay, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/anz.png Fabbro, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/iec.png Bernard and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spr.png Hibatullah are the next to be jettisoned.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0012.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/see.png Rachid has nearly ground to a halt and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/snz.png Power is also losing the wheel. They might be close enough to the top to make it back on the downhill.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0013.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eus.png Munoz again shows he's the strongest climber in this group. He still looks fresh while the others are noticeably struggling. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Lafay scores enough minor points so even if Munoz wins the final KOM he cannot overtake him today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0014.jpg

The peloton goes over the top a full 10 minutes behind the race leaders. I think the breakaway should be winning this stage now. Simba Cement have been getting a bit of help from other teams most notably Zwift.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0015.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eus.png Munoz followed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mck.png Cabrera, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ipc.png Prado and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Buitrago are about to start the final climb. Cabrera is actually the virtual race leader right now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0016.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mck.png Cabrera is the most unlikely rider still here and he's the one upping the tempo! Is he actually aiming for the yellow jersey here?!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0017.jpg

Less than 10 km from the top pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eus.png Munoz counter attacks and this drops pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ipc.png Prado. Meanwhile the peloton have shaped up and really gone hard in the valley, the gap is down to 6 minutes.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0018.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eus.png Munoz is just too strong today. He simply rides a fast tempo to drop the other two.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0019.jpg

The peloton catches the breakaway group with Fabbro. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/znf.png Pronskiy is riding at the front, but we also now see IESE riders near the front.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0020.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ipc.png Prado has made a bit of a comeback, but the real story is how close the peloton has gotten. They are only a 1'30'' behind this group and with 5 km still to go my proclamation that this stage was going to the breakaway was premature!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0021.jpg

Here we go! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Arensman upped the tempo and this leaves now only pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eus.png Munoz ahead, but the Colombian does have close to a 2 minute gap still and provides zero danger to the GC ranking.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0022.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/iec.png Novak attacks 3 km from the top! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Meintjes, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spr.png Misbah and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/sct.png Choi are following.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0023.jpg

This is some attack by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/iec.png Novak. The yellow jersey is way at the back now and already passed by the Gjensidige duo who are currently riding towards the GC lead. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spr.png Misbah is in between while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Meintjes is still on Novak's wheel.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0024.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/iec.png Novak catches up to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eus.png Munoz, but even he now looks spent.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0025.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/znf.png Jorgenson is leading the yellow jersey group, but crucially pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Arensman is holding a gap in front of them.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0026.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eus.png Munoz's steady tempo wins out. He hasn't had the overall race he would've wanted, but this is an awesome victory on the queen stage. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/iec.png Novak comes in 2nd and he'll be hoping he's gotten a lot of time back today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0027.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Lunke proves to be the 3rd fastest on the road ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Meintjes and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spr.png Misbah. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/znf.png Jorgenson follows shortly and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Arensman ran out of power at the end.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0028.jpg

Hard day for the yellow jersey as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/sct.png Choi knows he's lost quite some time today and will have to relinquish the race lead.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S13/PCM0029.jpg

As pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eus.png Daniel Munoz celebrates his stage victory our thoughts are on the overall classification and what it looks like heading into the final stage.

Outside of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/sct.png Choi the gaps between the riders are all quite small actually. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Lunke's strong finish vaults him into the yellow jersey. His closest competitor really isn't one as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Arensman is in 2nd place. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/sct.png Choi drops down to 3rd, but the gap is manageable at only 19''. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/znf.png Jorgenson loses a spot, but the gap to 1st is only 23''.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lot.png Vasyliv with an under the radar good ride today moves into 5th spot, but he's down to 58''. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spr.png Misbah moves into 6th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/anz.png Borisavljevic is 7th. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mck.png Yates loses a spot and is ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/iec.png Novak. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Meintjes rounds out the overall top 10.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Lafay is the new KOM leader, but he's only a point ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eus.png Munoz who collected a maximum of 60 points today.
