Tour of Slovenia - Stage 4
Imladrik
It’s the penultimate stage already in Slovenia. 156 km of ups and downs and an uphill finish, the bookies seem to favor the climbers over the puncheurs. There surely is difference to make before the closing time-trial tomorrow.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Slovenia/S4/20251214204852_1.jpg

A break of three left from the pack: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pum.png Stork, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/znf.png Ludvigsson and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/blt.png Orosco. But they’re on a tight leash: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/dna.png Delbove, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lph.png Galvan Ramirez and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/aab.png Van Aert are trying to get out too.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Slovenia/S4/20251214205147_1.jpg

Those are joined by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/min.png Paillot, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/dvt.png Niu, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lph.png Aguilar Mendez, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/dna.png Van Sintmaartensdijk and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/blt.png Mansouri.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Slovenia/S4/20251214205407_1.jpg

With this suitable break established, EA (pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eav.png Tanfield) and Gjensidige (pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Tjotta) take the lead of the peloton.

The break quickly gets to Verhoulje (cat. 3, 3,1 km, 8%). None in this group has any mountain points, but a max. total of 38 can be earned today.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/dna.png Delbove passes first. One needs 16 points to take the jersey from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/grm.png Van Gestel.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Slovenia/S4/20251214205901_1.jpg

The riders soon come back on the same climb. As is often the case in this sort of stage, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/xr0.png Lutsyshyn is dropped from the peloton. 103 km to go, the gap is 3’23.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Slovenia/S4/20251214210109_1.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/dna.png Delbove is the better climber and takes the maximum points again. He has 12 now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Slovenia/S4/20251214210236_1.jpg

The next climb is in Smartno (cat. 4, 2,,4 km, 6%). This time, it goes too fast for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/dna.png Delbove who can’t contest the points.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Slovenia/S4/20251214210444_1.jpg

The climb in Temrica is the most important of the day: cat. 2, 4,9 km, 7,4%. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lph.png Galvan Ramirez leads most of the climb, but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/dna.png Delbove takes most points and now has a good shot to be on the podium today (and tomorrow).

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Slovenia/S4/20251214210930_1.jpg

57 km left. The gap to the peloton is 4’07. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/dna.png Van Sintmaartensdijk and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lph.png Aguilar Mendez have been dropped from the break.

There’s a split in the peloton, as EA (pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eav.png Pelikan) is pulling a group of 32. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/sfi.png Zmorka, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/fas.png Phinney, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/yor.png Oliveira, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tti.png Razumov, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/elc.png Ioannidis or pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pum.png Kämna are in the wrong side, though the gap is soon mended.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Slovenia/S4/20251214211253_1.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lph.png Galvan Ramirez and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/dvt.png Niu are tied in Stanjol (cat. 3, 5,3 km, 4,1%). The former is now 2nd of the classification, 3 points behind Delbove. The last categorized climb is the finish.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Slovenia/S4/20251214211555_1.jpg

32 km left, the gap to the 158 men peloton is 3’20.

15 km later, with 2 climbs left, the gap still is around 2 minutes, so the break has good chances if they continue to work together. There’s another split in the pack, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/snz.png Rodriguez, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/fas.png Vliegen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tir.png Nys lead a group of 83. I don’t see any surprising name missing, but the GC will surely change today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Slovenia/S4/20251214211829_1.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/fas.png Vansevenant launches the hostilities in the penultimate climb! (2,3 km, 10,5%)

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Slovenia/S4/20251214212220_1.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Lunke and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/yor.png Skaarseth can’t lead the chase, so pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kng.png Gidich goes too!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Slovenia/S4/20251214212350_1.jpg

A group of 4 counters: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Eiking, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/snz.png Kelderman, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tir.png De Bie and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/yor.png Yates.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Slovenia/S4/20251214212529_1.jpg

They have 18 seconds on the yellow jersey group, and are 28 seconds behind Vansevenant, who’s 48 seconds behind the original breakaway.

1,8 km at 7,3% for the break. Can they fight for the win?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Slovenia/S4/20251214212755_1.jpg

Vansevenant is at 37 seconds, while Kelderman has been dropped from the poursuit.

Three seem able to fight for the win: Mansouri, Niu and Van Aert. Delbove tries to join them.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Slovenia/S4/20251214212941_1.jpg

200 m and none seem able to sprint.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Slovenia/S4/20251214213047_1.jpg

Niu takes the win! Exemplary day in the break for him. And maybe he’ll take the best climber jersey with that.
Van Aert is 2nd.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Slovenia/S4/20251214213126_1.jpg

Mansouri is 3rd, in front of Delbove who misses on mountain points.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Slovenia/S4/20251214213158_1.jpg

Galvan Rodriguez, Ludwigsson and Paillot are next.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Slovenia/S4/20251214213225_1.jpg

On the back, Vansevenant has been caught. The group of 4 still has 40 seconds on the yellow jersey group.

Storck and Orosco resist to them, on 8th and 9th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Slovenia/S4/20251214213335_1.jpg

Then come Eiking, Yates, De Bie and Vansevenant. The latter is the best placed GC wise of them, and have a shot to take the yellow jersey. He was 24 seconds back on Wirtgen.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Slovenia/S4/20251214213408_1.jpg

That should indeed be enough, as Gidich leads home this group, some 35 seconds later.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Slovenia/S4/20251214213510_1.jpg

Lutsyshyn comes to the finish line 5 minutes before the time cut, after a very long day.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Slovenia/S4/20251214213702_1.jpg

Vansevenant and Yates indeed take the lead in the GC, though their cushion is not enough before the ITT tomorrow. There’s no way Wirtgen does not win this race.

After a very good day in the break, Niu takes the lead in the points classification, with 6 points over Eiking. The Chinese is also tied with Delbove in the mountain classification, and tomorrow will decide who will win this.

Kmieliauskas finally takes the lead in the young rider classification. He should win this without too much of a sweat tomorrow.

Hunter Valley stay in the lead in the team classification. Let’s see whether they can keep that.

Last day tomorrow, and that’ll be tense! See you there.
