Coppa Placci (C2)
Hello and welcome to San Marino for the C2 hilly classic Coppa Placci. Last year Lafay won this race for Bordeaux and he's back to defend his honour for new main sponsor Euskotren. Let''s have a look at the profile.
Yes, that is hilly. Up and down all day, with an uphill finish that saw an incredible remontada of Moscon against Wilco Kelderman back in 2020. And the Italian is also back to defend his (former) title! Let's have a look at the full list of favourites.
Nat. | Name | MO | HI | ST | RS | SP | AC | | Eiking Odd Christian | 69 | 81 | 78 | 74 | 68 | 76 | | Moscon Gianni | 73 | 80 | 76 | 77 | 60 | 73 | | Waeytens Zico | 70 | 79 | 70 | 68 | 65 | 71 | | Jensen Kristian Haugaard | 69 | 79 | 76 | 72 | 65 | 75 | | Bystrom Sven Erik | 68 | 79 | 75 | 72 | 68 | 76 | | Beltran Eduard Alexander | 76 | 78 | 68 | 67 | 63 | 71 | | Koretzky Clement | 68 | 78 | 72 | 65 | 68 | 74 | | Yates Joel | 65 | 78 | 77 | 74 | 62 | 69 | | Raileanu Cristian | 77 | 77 | 74 | 73 | 59 | 70 | | Guerreiro Ruben | 76 | 77 | 73 | 73 | 72 | 72 | | Lyu Xianjing | 75 | 77 | 75 | 76 | 63 | 74 | | Lafay Victor | 75 | 77 | 72 | 72 | 63 | 74 | | Paulus Daniel | 74 | 77 | 71 | 68 | 62 | 71 | | Mager Christian | 74 | 77 | 68 | 70 | 60 | 71 | | Zordan Andrea | 73 | 77 | 72 | 72 | 65 | 74 | | Serrano Gonzalo | 72 | 77 | 73 | 75 | 68 | 77 | | Nikiema Bachirou | 70 | 77 | 72 | 74 | 70 | 76 | | Skjerping Kristoffer | 70 | 77 | 71 | 67 | 58 | 65 | | Izagirre Ion | 70 | 77 | 67 | 66 | 56 | 58 | | Lopez Juan Pedro | 78 | 76 | 71 | 72 | 60 | 78 |
Purely based on the punchiness Eiking is the number one favourite, although there will obviously be other factors coming into play. It will definitely help when you're a decent climber, as shown by co-favourite Moscon in 2020. The Italian can count on superdomestique Waeytens again, and you can add other decent puncheurs such as Zordan and Watson to that domestique list as well.
Jensen will be looking to continue his good early season form for Genii, whereas Bystrom is the next Scandinavian rider on the list and has a very similar skillset to the Dane, let's see if he can podium for Ethiopian Airlines tomorrow. One could say his mission is to fly up that final hill.
Beltran has not been flying so far this season, and has another shot at that with co-leader Yates tomorrow. They both have their strenghts. Apart from those two the other 78 rated puncheur on the list is Koretzky. The Gjensidige Frenchman is not spectacular in anything, but rather decent at everything. Will that be a succes formula for tomorrow? His goal is to beat former Gjensidige rider Eiking.
Let's have a look at the hybrid 77 puncheurs then. Raileanu has been a good asset for new team Babymetal so far, and will be looking to make manager UlaMog smile again. Guerreiro has also been doing okay for his new team Würth - MODYF, but still hopes to get that one big result. Being both a decent climber and sprinter could mean tomorrow's the day for that. Lyu has been sacrificing his chances for other teammates to score well in past races, but will also be eager to show he can score himself. And Lafay knows what it takes to win this race, so why not do it twice in a row?
Paulus is PCT's Ekoi - Le Creuset hope to score some C2 points, whereas Serrano leads Euskadi - Murias and the fast finisher Nikiema hopes to cement himself into a legendary rider at Simba. All-in on hybrid power at Newton then, as their squad is being lead by the Spaniard Lopez. Local PCT teams Sauber and Benetton are being lead by Pellaud and Vliegen.

Thanks for another very fine preview, Nemo!
It's our first C2 outing this season and apart from the XP it's all about Paulus (and Le Gac) as in all our C2 races. Let's hope we get some goid points our of the race, though I fear our leaders won't be priorized in positioning and finish well down the ranks. We're looking forward for proper racing anyway

The sponsors are asking for a top 5, but we'll be content with a top 10 due to the strong competition.

;)
In planning this was a clear race that suited guys with high mountain stats (guessing the climb at the end has a high MO factor) so lowered expectations here top 10 be nice
This has Guerriero and Lopez written all over it IMO hoping Moscon can be near the front before the end climb to hang onto those guys for a top 5. The rest of our guys don't suit this one maybe Zordan slightly but not expecting any team scoring here
Edit: forgot Lyu and Raillenu too and the high hill guys seem to score well but just not finish the best on that final climb so still expecting the usual Bystrom , Moscon etc.. to be top 10 just whoever has the highest Mountain stat at the end to win |

Thanks for mentioning Moscon's 2020 win, Nemo - great memories, as it was our very first classic win
He didn't do quite as well when coming back in 2022, but a Top 10 should still easily be on the table for him.
Good luck to all!

Key for Lopez is just making sure he is still in the peloton when that final climb to the line comes. He hasn't had the best lucky in hilly races so far this season, hoping this race is a turning point.

Beltran might have a chance. Yates also strong but I don’t think he quite has the stats to get the win here. Beltran needs to be our focus.
It’ll be a tough race. Good luck everyone and thanks for another great preview!

Love watching C2 races that we don't have to compete it! The Cervelo depth feels like a huge advantage here and I'll pick Waeytens as my winner pick for absolutely no reason. Guerrero another favorite of mine - maybe this will finally be his race.

Can't say I'm too surprised with the result for whatever reasons the game takes those stuff gradients and really gives a lot emphasis to the mountain stat as can be seen by the top 3. But glad to have called the Winner in Guerriero and the 3rd in Lopez finally getting a course that suits him! |

Really happy with 5th place from Beltran! He had a great race forcing the selection and being rewarded for it! Great work!
Congrats Guerrero for the win and thanks for the great report!

Well, can't say I'm really happy being outside the podium, but beggars can't be choosers anyway, so the result is fine and with Robov and CFH in Top 20 this will give us some ranking points boost. But I wonder the tally would've been greater if Bernard was also involved.
Congrats to Team Würth MODYF and thanks cunego59 for the report.

Congrats Ezee on a fine win for Guerreiro and thanks for the report, cunego!
Paulus doing really good here, this should actually be among his highest scores for us ever.

Supper dissapointing race that Govekar wasn't even able to finish in top 30.
Congrats to winner and thanks for preview and report.

Not sure how much I liked our racing. Nice to see us in BOTD when we don't have a favorite for the stage, but De Comarmond just isn't strong enough to make any difference. Nikiema also missed an important split, but luckily the groups came together so he could still provide some depth scoring.
Nevertheless, Laas in top 10 and 17 points. We count that as a success even though we missed our sponsor objective.

Awesome effort by Lyu. Jt, you were pretty much spot on with your prediction. Really good to see the hefty support for Lyu paid off in this race, but to be honest it didn’t even look like Lyu needed it in the main. He was prominent throughout - very cool to see the video, thanks for the excellent write-up as well cunego!
And congrats Ezee

Shame we missed the break, would have been nice to see our local rider up there but he picked the wrong moment to make his move after it was already formed

Thanks for the report and congrats to everyone else who is satisfied!
Oh Ruben!!! Same words than in the KBK thread but complete different meaning So far the duell Ruben vs. Ruben in my team goes clearly to Guerreiro. Of course I am super happy about this Win. And also really satisfied how this is going so far for him. He hast the mega stats but he is so versatile that I hoped it would pay of in CT and so far it definitely does!

Thanks for the preview and the report!
8th from Lafay is decent, I think, when seeing the forces here. Maybe he was a bit to agressive, and lacked of strength in the end, but that'll be OK.
What is interesting is our depth here, with another top 15, a top 20 and a top 25, and Rodriguez barely missing out one point.
All in all, a good race to finish a pretty good month. Interested to see the rankings!
Congrats for the win Ezee, glad to see this after reporting Zepunkte bad KBK
