Ronde van Vlaanderen U23 (2023) - Discussion
Nemolito
Hey everybody, before the real season starts and to test whether there's a way for me to get into reporting a little bit Ezeefreak and I will do some tests in the coming days. One of those tests is this, the RVV U23. 2/3/4 years ago I did both a Roubaix and RVV, including a legendary Pidcock solo in RVV ending in a second place behind SotD's Stavrakakis.

This time we'll try to do another U23 Ronde van Vlaanderen. As the 2024 db is still in progress and it would take too much time we're taking the 2023 DB with the avenir startlist. This gives the batch of 2000 riders a chance to prove themselves in a cobbled U23 race as well. This is the profile of the race:

And the top favourites look like this:

Only really one top favourite obviously, but I guess punctures and bad luck can always happen. Let's find out if Girmay ends his Zwift career in a fashionable way. Duric and Rossi are the biggest other podium contenders when looking at the cobble stat only, with Rossi clearly the better rouler of the two.

Bdadou and Habimana then as the two African top cobblers here, both with a better kick on the hills than the other contenders, but apart from that nothing to separate them a lot from the names above or below. Bonello and Bdadou could be a strong duo for Udo Colombini though, as Blume Levy will try to give Team Denmark another reason to cheer, after Skjelmose won the Avenir itself.

The Crabpack here with a good cobbles rider in Van Den Bossche as well, just like in the good old days. Other 2023 CT teams Bordeaux, Würth and Podium Ambition also with a regional rider representing them and going for a top 10 with respectively Serrano, Heinrich and Marte. Mick Van Dijke is a standout name as well, weaker on the cobbles but superior than most on the hills, physical-wise and in the sprint.

Hope we'll be able to see this test through and you can enjoy this off-season race soon Smile

Thanks for the reminder of that Pidcock solo. Was an insane first (?) race in a Xero jersey for him and would have been a legendary win.
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Thanks Ezee and Nemo for having this! Really cool to follow both text and video Smile

Van den Bossche's lack of stamina was the factor I feared the most. All in all 13th is okay.

Congrats Bini and Mre! Grin

Best of the rest is the best we could have hoped for and shows Rossi is on the right track as he continues his development

Too easy, but still an impressive solo win for Girmay. Farewell Bini! Also, really enjoyed the video aspect and getting to watch the action.

Dominant by Girmay, as expected. Nice to have this to shorten the wait for the season to start Grin Also enjoyed the inclusion of the video, as it was easy to fast forward and find the critical spots mentioned in the report.
