Tour de l'Avenir - Stage 1
Imladrik
The 2023 Tour de l’Avenir begins not in France, but in the famous Flandrian city of Bruges for a 6 km prologue. The local future star pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/rab.png Evenepoel is the biggest favorite, while his teammate pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/lmp.png Milan might hope to be good enough today to take the leader’s jersey tomorrow.

There is quite a crowd here in Belgium to watch the future of cycling! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/bdx.png Serrano is the the first to go, and he sets up a time of 7’08.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/Others/Avenir/S1/AvenirS1_1.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/eko.png Vauquelin also is considered as one of the brightest of the new generation of cycling, but he’s not here yet. His time is 7’18, 15 seconds slower than pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/coc.png Tiberi, who took the hot seat.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/Others/Avenir/S1/AvenirS1_2.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ghn.png Vernon is one of the favorites, and he delivers. 6’50, he’s the first under 7 minutes.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/Others/Avenir/S1/AvenirS1_3.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/sfi.png Van Dijke is a good time-trialist, but still way slower: 7’02.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/Others/Avenir/S1/AvenirS1_4.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ziz.png Vandevelde doesn’t do bertter: 7’04.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/Others/Avenir/S1/AvenirS1_5.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/lmp.png Milan does well! 6’57 sets him 2nd, in a good position for tomorrow in the current standings.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/Others/Avenir/S1/AvenirS1_6.png

A good ride from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/lph.png Moutsios sets him 3rd,under the 7 minutes mark: 6’59.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/Others/Avenir/S1/AvenirS1_7.png

With half the riders having finished, Vernon still stands in the hot seat, with a 7 seconds advantage on Milan, and 9 seconds on Moutsios.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/lph.png Galvan Ramirez might be in the game for a decent GC result. He does very good today, finishing in the same time as Milan: 6’57.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/Others/Avenir/S1/AvenirS1_9.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ubt.png Balmer isn’t as good: 7’16 isn’t that much time lost, but it could play a role in the end.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/Others/Avenir/S1/AvenirS1_10.png

7’05 for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/cdb.png Skjelmose Jensen.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/Others/Avenir/S1/AvenirS1_11.png

The time-trialist pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/pum.png Kmieliauskas might be disappointed: he sets a time of 7’00.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/Others/Avenir/S1/AvenirS1_12.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/evo.png Plapp does better: 6’57. But the one who’s waited for comes in last! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/rab.png Evenepoel was in the same time in the intermediate chrono… but he misses the win for a mere 2nd! 6’51.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/Others/Avenir/S1/AvenirS1_13.png

So the first stage is for Vernon! He also takes all the relevants classifications. For now at least. See you tomorrow!
