Tour of the Battenkill - Preview
Welcome to the Battenkill Valley in Washington County, New York. We welcome our partcipants and wish all the best luck.
We are in Schuylerville, a rather small place just north of Albany which is about a 3 hours drive to the north from new York City. Although the finish line is actually only 10 miles away from the start, race organisers have taken a slightly long-winded route which takes the riders a total of 218.6km over a number of tough cobblestone sections and hills which will test the pavé specialists.
In the first 3 editions we had 3 different winners but last year Wisniowski could repeat his victory from the year before.
| Winner | 2nd | 3rd | 4th | 5th | 2022 | Wisniowski | Senechal | Salzmann | Trentin | David | 2021 | Wisniowski | Debesay | Kasperkiewicz | Gerts | Per | 2020 | Summerhill | Altur | Blythe | David | Debesay | 2019 | Bewley | Theuns | Wisniowski | Gerts | Vanspeybrouck |
This year we will have definitely a different one from the last 2 editions since Wisniowski isnt here this time. But with Summerhill we have a former winner amongst the Favorites.
We have a lot strong riders here when it comes to cobbled roads. With his also great skills on shorter steep climbs Gerts will be the one to watch here. Then we have guys like Zepuntke who can definitely get a gap on the cobbled sections but we will need to see how they are doing when there is a ramp.
Maybe not the best suited for the bumpy roads are guys like Benoot, Siric, De Buyst and Boros but they have strengths that could play out for them if they dont lose the leaders before.
This will be a thrilling race to watch and we wish every participant best luck!

This race doesn't seem like a great fit for Siric, but maybe the start list is a touch easier than usual and he can have some fun here.
Thanks for the preview

Went all in on this one with Benoot and RIngheim both on the startlist for the only cobbles race this season! Let's see if the gamble pays off. Hoping for a Top 10 after seeing the startlist.
Thanks for the preview Ezee

Thank you for the nice preview, Ezee. Looks like most of the best cobblers are in Rheden, it would be great if Zepuntke could finish inside the top-5 here. Good luck to everyone!

We lucked into a very favorable startlist, so a good result is a must. Gerts has to be the favorite given the bumpy route, but a podium should be well within reach here given the relatively few favorite showing up. Of course, our team isn't used to (or built to be) the team of a true favorite, so it depends how the racing plays out and if we can control things late enough.
Thanks for the preview!

TONE is not officially over yet, but we already know Gerts will have to redeem himself in this race. Hopefully.

11th in a PTHC race is a phenomenal result for Bini Girmay in his young career, and another boost for Zwift in the relegation battle. Congrats bbl on the win, Per continues his amazing season!

Oh man, really thought Gerts was going to get that. But second brings in some much needed points. Congrats, bbl!

Not the best day for Zepuntke but we take an eighth place and are happy to see Ulloa in 20th as well. Great to see Benoot podium here for Sony.
Congratulations bbl, and thanks for the great report kb

And yet we had a Top 10 team goal for this race so that 11th place hurts a little. After four seasons, looks like Zwift will be 0/20 in team goals... At least they can't fire me.

I love David Per.
Amazing way to cap off an amazing cobbles campaign this season. Brute strength as well as strategy once again. And all year, such consistency! Just over an over again. Besides a few small blips, he's been there at the front every single time, despite being isolated fairly early And once again, he shows his strength here. Wisniowski the clear best cobbler this year, but Per his runner up for sure, and doing more than his share to keep us from relegation.
This time, for once, I gotta pat myself on the back at least a little bit for my planning too. Rheden's startlists have been increasingly packed the last few years, and Battenkill ends up being a huge boon for us. Also don't have to feel bad about AI or poor performances, since Gerts and the rest of the favorites finished just behind. Great day all around.
Thanks for the terrific report kandes, and thanks to all for their congrats!

David Per the man that you are. Love to see it
Van Zyl in 16th is a fantastic result, beating far better cobblers, some really good hilly cobblers and even better riders in his own low-70s-CB-and-HI niche for this kind of race. Debesay got a Top 5 and a Top 10 for us here and Rowe got a Top 10 in Rheden in a different year so it's not technically our highest score across the double-header, but this is our first ever kind of minor success in either race and our best year in combining the two - and certainly the year we needed that success the most! Two of our handiest non-stars in team history showing up for their part in this promotion charge in Van Zyl and Novardianto.
What is this, public optimism about my team? Feels weird
Thanks for reporting the double-header with typical quality kandes!

It looked like a decent move by Siric to anticipate the attacks of the favourites and get up the road a bit before that. But seeing the final result it seems that took too much energy out of him and he might have been better off trying to stick with the big guns. 12th is still decent though and Poljanec had a really nice ride to finish 23rd.
Thanks for the report

Congrats bbl, Per doing his thing in fine form!
Reasonable result from Debesay. It wouldn't be easy to break into top5 but that's the field's fault I guess. 7th will have to do. Thanks for the report KB!

3rd is the best we could've realistically hoped for from this race, behind the guys who actually finished in the Top 2! Really happy that sending our cobbles leadership duo here instead of Rheden paid off handsomely.
Congrats to bbl and thanks for the report
