Deutschland Tour - S2
Imladrik
The second stage here in Niedersachsen goes from Göttingen to Wolfsburg. It’s bumpy in the first half, and culminates at the Königsberg. Then we’ll have 80 km of flat roads. It’s also the 2nd chance for Coquard, Ewan and Ahlstrand.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Deutschland/S2/DeutschlandS2_22.png

The battle for the breakaway is fierce, but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/snz.png Muhindo, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/zpc.png Jussaume and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/akm.png Potts are the one allowed to go. None has any mountain points.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Deutschland/S2/DeutschlandS2_23.png

The race begins well for the latter, as he wins the first intermediate sprint. The gap is 3’23 with 140 km left.

Potts is by far the better puncheur. He easily wins the first cat. 4 climb. The gap is up to 4’39.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Deutschland/S2/DeutschlandS2_25.png

The next sprint is at Bad Lauerberg. It’s won by Potts. Next come the three last climbs, all contained in a bigger climb.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Deutschland/S2/DeutschlandS2_26.png

The gap is 6’17. ELCO, Cedevita, ISA and the Minions are taking it as easy as yesterday.

His breakaway companions let Potts work in the short climb, but he wins it nonetheless. That’s 10 points for him.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Deutschland/S2/DeutschlandS2_27.png

The cat. 3 climb to the Schlosskopf is hrder: 2,8 km at 6%. It’s no worries for Potts, who wins it for a total of 16 points.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Deutschland/S2/DeutschlandS2_28.png

And we’re already at the last difficulty of the day, the climb to Königsberg: 6 km at 4%.
It’s 4 for 4 for Potts, who earned two days with the best climber jersey.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Deutschland/S2/DeutschlandS2_29.png

The peloton begins to reel in the break. The gap is 4’30 with 85 km left, all flat or downhill.

And Potts wins the last sprint. The peloton is closing in now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Deutschland/S2/DeutschlandS2_30.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/isa.png Dlamini makes the catch with 12 km left.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Deutschland/S2/DeutschlandS2_31.png

5 km. Once again, everyone fight for positions. Ewan and Manninen maybe are a bit far in the back.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Deutschland/S2/DeutschlandS2_32.png

3,2 km left. Santos and Boutopoulos begin their lead-out.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Deutschland/S2/DeutschlandS2_33.png

1,3 km. Ahlstrand is in thze wind, with Coquard and Ewan in his wheel.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Deutschland/S2/DeutschlandS2_34.png

700 m and Coquard is in the lead.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Deutschland/S2/DeutschlandS2_35.png

The hectic trains took their toll on the favorites. Manninen goes now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Deutschland/S2/DeutschlandS2_36.png

Silvestre takes the first position in the last 100 meters.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Deutschland/S2/DeutschlandS2_37.png

He wins it! Walscheid is 2nd, Page 3rd.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Deutschland/S2/DeutschlandS2_38.png

Then Kragh Andersen and Samolenkov.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Deutschland/S2/DeutschlandS2_40.png

Welten, Enger, Howard, Zhao and Manninen close the top 10.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Deutschland/S2/DeutschlandS2_41.png

A gap of 1’20 is given after the 24th rider! Will that have a role tomorrow? Indeed, stage 3 should be decisive for the GC!
Enger and Silvestre share the GC lead.
Enger keeps the points jersey.
Potts leads the best climber classification.
Rodenberg was the only one of the young rider competition to be in the split, and he tops the classification.
