[C2] Berlin ProRace
Welcome to the best city in the world*, hosting a race of the best MGUCI division of all*.
Spoiler * The author may be biased in this opinions.
The route and the profile of the race didn’t change much over the years. Owing to the rather flat Brandenburg landscape surrounding the city of Berlin, there aren’t many difficulties for the riders to overcome - none at all to be accurate. So everything looks to be prepared for a bunch sprint - or doesn’t it? Although the profile doesn’t suggest it, the race history has shown that attackers actually have a chance at this race.
After pausing for the 2021 season (and a downgrade to the C1 category) the race was back in the MGUCI calendar last season – and obviously is this season as well, though being downgraded even further to C2. But the character has stayed the same over all this years, so Berlin will welcome once again the best sprinters, this year those of the CT. But the sprinters (and their teams) will have to pay attention, as there were some surprise wins from late attacks (Dzamastagic in 2022 and Silvestre in 2019) or even from the break of the day (Bennett in 2014 and Vink in 2015) in the previous editions.
So far no rider was able to win the race twice, but veterans Itami, Guerao and Degenkolb are at the start of the race and have the chance to become the sole record holder, all of them profit from the downgrade of the race as they are on the final days of their careers.
Previous winners:

Year | Winner | | | | | | | | 2022 | Mark Dzamastagic (HelloFresh - Lampre) | 2020 | Kenji Itami (GCN Racing) | 2019 | Fabio Silvestre (Berg Cycles) | 2018 | John Degenkolb (Iberia - Team Degenkolb) | 2017 | Óscar Guerao (SPAR - Shimano - SCG) | 2016 | Tosh van der Sande (Strava) | 2015 | Michael Vink (Risa - Ergon) | 2014 | George Bennett (Oz Cycling Project) | 2013 | Allan Davis (Hollister Pro Cycling) | 2012 | Daniele Bennati (Team Puma SAP) |
2022 results:

The startlist of the race consists of 15 teams form the CT ad 3 teams from the PCT - with at least the CT teams sending their best sprinter(s) - not really surprising regarding the profile of the race. So the list of favorites is mainly a list of the best sprinters starting, supplemented by some potential late attackers.
Sprinters:
The list of sprinters is long - and could quite well be a lot longer still. On top there’s no real favourite, because Degenkolb and Lo Cicero might have higher sprint stats than the others, but they lack quite some acceleration. Behind them we find more than a dozen sprinters with pretty similar SP/ACC combinations (plus some veterans with low ACC), so it will all come down to positioning and the right timing.

Rouleurs:
This riders could launch an attack in the final kilometers if they don’t have to work for their respective sprinter (which is indeed quite improbable regarding the pure amount of sprinters at the start).

Always hard to plan for the required C2 days. This year our best bet is late attacks in flat classics with Veyhe and Rickaert. Hopefully we can get a result here in Berlin

Excited to see how this plays out for my CT compatriots. I'd personally like to see some successful late attacks, but a good sprint finish is always fun as well.

With Degenkolb and Boudat I think we have good chances on a win here, so there's hoping!

With our first ever home victory (and one of the first overall) in the inaugural edition, this race always holds a special place in our history.
Hoping for another German win here!

Thanks KB for the preview!
It’s a lottery for sure. I hope Liepins can pick up some points here.

Splendid with 4th for Moser. Looks like he chose the right time to start his sprint

Congrats Babymetal with their victory! The ‘new’ teams are rocking this CT season.
We couldn’t have been more thrilled with this second place from Liepins. Just what we needed
Thanks KB for the excellent report!

No result, but that was to be expected, though we could at least have someone in the points...
Congrats to the sprinters! Ans thanks KB for the report.

Thank you kb for the preview and the great report! And congratulations to babymetal for their first classic win
Hoped for a succesful late attack from either Ruiz or Quispe, but it wasn't meant to be. Maybe better luck in our next C2 race.

Glad to see Riabushenko overcome his bad results and take away a win for us! Seems like for the next few seasons he'll just need a few races where he can actually shine in like this one.
Big thank you to kandesbunzler for the report |
