After the flat, the mountains! Most of today’s stagie is hardisqh, with 170 km, some bumps, a cat. 1 and a cat. 2 climb. But the more interesting part resides uiin the final cat. 1 climb. Even though it’s not usually too selective in terms of gaps, it should nonetheless explell the pure time-trialist from the GC contention.

Today also is the only chance to shine for the pure climbers who made the trip here in Bayern. In any case, all the classifications are at stake today.

Assa Abloy, Red Bull, Popo4Ever with the green jersey and Zara are the main teams taking control of the peloton, seeming relaxed. The leader of the mountain classification, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/afr.png Moulingui, is near the front.

Trans, Binance, Kraftwerk are the teams the most presents in the break.

The gap quickly rises to three minutes and counting. Minions, Indoosat, Cedevita and Carlsberg joined the chase.

The gap is 4’24 with 114 km left to race.

And the day’s first difficulty is coming: the Hochscharzeck, 6 km long at 5,8%. The gap is coming down now.

The whole break regroups in the descent. The pack stayed together.

71 km to go, and the gap is now 3’25. The peloton seems well in control.

The next climb is the cat. 2 Scharam (2,2 km, 4,4%). The bits between the false flats are quite hard, but the climb is rather short.

Once again, the two Trans helpers don’t follow when the pace rises.

This time, Rodrigues doesn’t get point. Roson gets 6, and equalizes with Moulingui. With the time difference between the two riders, that doesn’t feel good for the Gabonese.

Haig is caught thanks to the efforts of Cattaneo, and Pogacar takes control of the pack… Only to see Cattaneo attack!

In the leading group, Roson is dropped.

Helme is dropped 200 m from the pack, and whose else for a final fight? Cuming and Rodrigues obviously. It’ll come down to who is the fresher, but in any case, the polkadots will be for Rodrigues.

In the GC battle, Cattaneo caught Roson and has a 30’’ gap on the yellow jersey group. The Italian should take the lead ahead of the closing time-trial.

And it’s a victory for Rodrigues! With all the bonus seconds him and Cuming have gathered today, they should make a serious climb in the GC. Helme is third.

A 2 minutes gap is given to Rodrigues on Haig group, the Portuguese is now 2nd in the GC, 11 seconds behind Cattaneo, and 18 ahead of Cuming.
With a 30’’ gap, Dunbar can still dream on a final win.
Paillot is down to 6th in the GC, 1’20 behind Cattaneo.
Conci now has the youth classification well in hand, though the battle with Rikunov and Christodoulos should be interesting to follow.
Rodrigues adds to his tally by leading the points and the mountain classifications. Minions is best team for now.
