Welcome in Windhoek for the great return of the Namibian time-trial event, but with a format change: indeed this year, it’s a team time-trial in the streets of the capital. 13 teams are here to compete for the win, and let’s have a look at the favorites.
Except the categorization as a team time-trial, not much changes in this race. It’s still 47,5 km long, with some small bumps here and there.
Teams 1 to 4 – Chrono
Podium Ambition are the first to go. They seem to struggle a bit in the ramp at the beginning of the race. Their time is 28’45
Voyagin are trailing them, one kilometer behind. They take the lead by 12 seconds: 28’33.
Jura are further behind. They have the worst time of the three, 8 seconds behind Podium Ambition.
We’ll be checking Red Bull’s time. They’re not far behind the Jura riders and indeed are among the pre-race favorites. They take the lead, 2 seconds faster than Voyagin.
Provisional classification – Chrono 1
Red Bull Zalgiris 28’30
Voyagin – Bird 28’32
Podium Ambition 28’45
Jura GIANTS 28’52
Teams 5 to 8 – Chrono
Other pre-race favorites, Minions, are the next on the road. They take the provisional lead: 28’23.
Cedevita might come here with high hopes, even though they’re 1 rider down. And indeed, with 28’20, they are the fastest!
BNZ, in the other hand, are by no mean favorites, and they are struggling! Vasyliv, Erdenebat and Miller are 200 m ahead of the rest of the team. At the time check, they are 10 seconds behind Jura.
Three letters, but another status for BWT that you could see in the back. They have a good chance at a great result, but they have to stay together for that. For now, they indeed take 7 seconds to Cedevita!
Provisional classification – Chrono 1
BWT Hyundai N Cycling 28’12
Cedevita 28’19
Minions – Subwoolfer 28’22
Red Bull Zalgiris 28’30
Voyagin – Bird 28’32
Podium Ambition 28’45
Jura GIANTS 28’52
BNZ-Superhero Racing 29’02
Teams 9 to 13 – Chrono
As Podium are 6,5 km to the finish line, the last teams are on the road. First of this bunch is McCormick. Though they might seem far from BWT, they are fast enough to be provisional 4th, 1 second ahead of Red Bull.
Staffbase can’t say that. They are dead least, 23 seconds behind BNZ who were the lanterne rouge until then.
Project: Africa are in a good day! With a time of 28’16, they only are 4 seconds behind BWT.
Glanbia seems to be able to disturb the PCT teams – even though for now, this honor belongs to BWT. Their 4th position in the intermediate chrono, with only Zara left to pass is not bad at all.
And while speaking about the wolves, here are the Spaniards. They are 5 seconds off the pace at the chrono, that might be disappointing, but nothing that can’t be taken back.
Provisional classification – Chrono 1
BWT Hyundai N Cycling 28’12
Project: Africa 28’16
Zara – Irizar 28’17
Cedevita 28’19
Glanbia 28’21
Minions – Subwoolfer 28’22
McCormick Pro Cycling 28’29
Red Bull Zalgiris 28’30
Voyagin – Bird 28’32
Podium Ambition 28’45
Jura GIANTS 28’52
BNZ-Superhero Racing 29’02
Staffbase – BHP 29’25
Teams 1 to 4 – Finish
Podium ambition are arriving. The first reference time is 58’04.
Voyagin were 13 seconds ahead of Podium ambition in the first half, they are 29 seconds ahead now. 57’34 is their time.
Jura are arriving in the middle of the crowd. They logically are last for now, 1’02 behind Voyagin.
Red Bull were 3’’ ahead of Voyagin at the chrono. They should do better… But they do not! Horrible 2nd part for them, which see them 7 seconds off!
Provisional classification – Finish line
Voyagin – Bird 57’34
Red Bull Zalgiris 57’41
Podium Ambition 58’04
Jura GIANTS 58’36
Teams 5 to 8 – Finish
Minions are the next. Despite a split in their set up, they’re in the hot seat for now ( 57’22), though they didn’t increase their gap on Voyagin.
They can’t stay in it for too long though, as Cedevita are coming next, and they immediately take the lead: 57’14
BNZ are really, really slower: though they are the next to come, they are 3,6 km behind Cedevita. At the finish line, they are 6’’ slower than Jura.
Their last rider, Erdenesuren, is even overcome by BWT, led by Jacobsen. They increase their lead to Cedevita by 2 seconds.
Provisional classification – Finish line
BWT Hyundai N Cycling 57’04
Cedevita 57’13
Minions – Subwoolfer 57’21
Voyagin – Bird 57’34
Red Bull Zalgiris 57’41
Podium Ambition 58’04
Jura GIANTS 58’36
BNZ-Superhero Racing 58’41
Teams 9 to 13 – Finish
McCormick are the first of this bunch. They had a decent first half, and the 2nd is also decent, as they are 4th for now.
Staffbase were last at the intermediate chrono, and they probably will finish last. The main question is to know whether they’ll be overcome by Project: Africa or not.
They don’t, but not by far. The Africans finish behind Cedevita though – they lost 5 seconds to the Slovenians.
Two teams left to finish, with Glanbia first. They’re in the same time as Project: Africa, ahead of them for now, but we’ll have to wait for the judges decision.
And finally, Zare are closing the day. They have to take 5 seconds to BWT to win this race. And though they are better than everyone else, they even lose 3 more seconds to the CT team. It’ll only be a 2nd place for them!
