It’s finally here! The Tropicale starts today, after some some organizational problems. Well, to be fair, it really begins tomorrow, as for today we “only” have a pan flat 6 km prologue in Akieni.

It’s a small town in the North of Franceville, on the shore of Lekoni river. The weather is good, with a nice 32 km/h wind from the South, which should push the riders onwards.

The favorites of the day are a mix of GC favorites (pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/amc.png Durbridge, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/aab.png Gonzalez Salas) and of prologue specialists (pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/jur.png Chavanne).

It’s a good moment to note that there’s a slight inclination in the final kilometer, between 2 and 4%.

Let’s have a look on the provisional classification with 60 riders done, firmly led by Wolf.

And he had a very good time! The German can resist to fairly good time-trialists like pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/trg.png Frison (7’28) or pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/ino.png Dunbar (7’26). These two will still be happy of the time, as they can compete with the GC favorites for now.

And finally, it’s pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/amc.png Durbridge time, one of the biggest favorites for the GC.

Quite the sensation here in Gabon: is only provisional 3rd, in the same time as Thomas! (7’23).

And the Australians are strong today, as shows the classification with 100 riders being finished:

Oh, no, what a disappointment. 7’32 is very bad, it’s only good for 26th for now.

He’s 9 seconds off the pace. Only good for a provisional top 20…

And though the top 10 changes here and there, nobody can beat Wolf! He wins the first stage and takes the jersey!
Seeing the results, Zara and Amaysim probably won’t be too disappointed.
With three riders in the top 6, Indosaat also leads the team classifications.

We’ll come back tomorrow for a sprinter’s day. Maybe a chance to shake the GC already. Interesting day to watch!
