Isle of Man Individual Time Trial
After lobbying from some influential fans, the Celtic Chrono has returned to its roots on the Isle of Man. The race’s first 9 editions were held as the Isle of Man ITT before becoming the Celtic Chrono the last 4 years. In 2022 it returns to its original location and title. The course remains similar to last year, 46km, ridden twice, with some bumps that might impact the race a little. But still, it should favor the pure TT riders. Prior winners include some famous names in time trialing like Zmorka, Coppel and Zabriskie. This year it moves down to the C2 level, so perhaps a less famous winners is likely.
51 riders from 17 teams are on the startlist, 12 of those stand above the rest:
Nat. | Name | FL | MO | TT | RS | | Rekita | 72 | 58 | 79 | 73 | | Erdenebat | 75 | 60 | 78 | 78 | | Sterobo | 70 | 71 | 78 | 69 | | Mottin | 67 | 56 | 77 | 71 | | Balloni | 72 | 59 | 77 | 69 | | Downey | 73 | 63 | 77 | 74 | | Oram | 73 | 58 | 77 | 72 | | Cruz | 74 | 53 | 77 | 70 | | Marchewka | 65 | 64 | 77 | 75 | | Andersen | 70 | 55 | 77 | 74 | | Vanderpool | 68 | 64 | 77 | 64 | | Predatsch | 69 | 53 | 77 | 77 |
Rekita is the top favorite and Jura will be expecting a good result from their Polish leader. Jura have a second strong candidate in Marchewka. Of course Glanbia also bring strength in depth with Downe, Oram, and Cruz all bringing similar profiles. But the second favorite is probably BNZ’s Erdenebat who has the strongest overall profile although a little slower on the TT bike than Rekita. Another candidate with strong secondaries is Predatsch
Caja and Bordeaux send Mottin and Balloni, respectively. Both riders are on the downside of their careers but should be good enough to have an impact here.
Podium Ambition, who have ties to the race will look to Vanderpool. Vanderpool is a strong TT rider but lacks in the energy stats.
But If the climbs do have an impact then the strong favorite has to be Sterobo who is by far the best climber among the top contenders. And Oktal Pharma also bring a second contender in Andersen
The impact of the climbs will also be important to BWT’s two leaders, Ahmad Zamri and De Luna. They are not on the list of the top TT riders but are both solid on the TT bike while being two of the best two climbers in the race.

Rekita unfortunately hasn't been riding like a 79 TTer so far. Obviously expecting a podium, but I wouldn't be overly surprised if he only got a lower Top 10 spot...
Rowsell is our dark horse if climbing actually matters, but he obviously lacks pure TT skills.
Hope this will move up to C1 again, the bumpy course should be a good fit for Bissegger and Brunel next year

Usual Glanbia tactic of throwing good TTers at a race and hoping oene of them is great on the day!
The bumps might hurt us but only compared to Sterobo by the looks of it
Thanks for the preview

My expectations are pretty low here considering that our main TT goal - Monterrey TTT, was accomplished. Still, great to have a honourable mention in the preview and who knows - we may or may not have a Monterrey-esque TT race.

Hoping Castrillo can get us a good result in this one! He's not far outside the favourites list and he can climb a bit better than many of those above him + has solid back-up stats.
Thanks for the preview and good luck !!

No big hopes for us here, I'm a bit like Bjartne.
Good luck everyone, thanks for the preview!

Finally! Rekita's best TT result so far were some 4th places - but now he delivers in the sole TT classic on the calendar! Fantastic first leg by our two Poles, and Rektia just pulled through and cruised to a dominant win! While all the points our GC riders collected thanks to his great TTT contributions aren't reflected too much in his scoresheet, those points are his, and his alone! Great job, thanks Szymon!
And Marchewka once again proves he was a good pickup at this wage. He plays an important role in our TTT successes as well, and his 5th place here is more than we could expect. Just look at all those other 77 TTers who failed... commiserations to Glanbia, by the way.
Thanks for the report to UU - for once I'm glad it didn't get too thrilling in the end

I really can't complain...having 4th and 8th overall is still a really strong effort for us. Roe was great in the TT as he has shown all year long! It was good to see Erdenebat have a good second leg. I wish he could be a little more consistent. Still waiting on the first win in a TT from Erdenebat. Hopefully it comes soon!
Congrats Jura!

Delighted that Rekita won, best CT TTer should win the CT TT classic! Well done Fab and no need for commiserations, that was a good day for Glanbia

After a strong first leg, a bitterly disappointing result for Castrillo with how he fared in the 2nd leg. All in all, with this field, I can’t be too disappointed with the result and a couple of points.
Thanks for the reports!! Really well done!
And congrats to Jura

I really enjoyed that report! Pre-race, I thought Sterobo was the main favorite, but it appears I overestimated the climbing elements. Congrats Fabianski, strong one from Rekita!
