Torshavn GP
The PCT peloton is in the Faroe Islands for the 3rd running of the Torshavn GP. The C1 race is 172km circuit race, it is rated flat but the parcours includes one small climb. Marko Kump won the first edition, Peter Kennaugh took last year’s race.
Kennaugh is back and he is joined by more than a few of his friends.
Nat. | Name | FL | HI | RS | SP | AC | | Ahlstrand | 74 | 67 | 73 | 83 | 82 | | Kragh Andersen | 77 | 64 | 74 | 81 | 77 | | Kennaugh | 76 | 64 | 70 | 81 | 80 | | Howard | 75 | 67 | 69 | 81 | 78 | | Vesely | 73 | 68 | 68 | 81 | 80 | | Halvorsen | 76 | 65 | 71 | 81 | 80 | | Saber | 75 | 68 | 72 | 81 | 79 | | Silvestre | 78 | 67 | 71 | 80 | 81 | | Jakobsen | 74 | 67 | 73 | 80 | 80 | | Coutinho | 72 | 65 | 74 | 79 | 80 | | Reinhardt | 71 | 67 | 66 | 79 | 84 | | Vingerling | 71 | 62 | 66 | 79 | 79 | | Suryadi | 71 | 62 | 68 | 79 | 76 | | Hodeg | 72 | 65 | 74 | 79 | 78 | | Riabushenko | 76 | 68 | 74 | 79 | 77 | | Scully | 74 | 67 | 70 | 79 | 80 | | Bertilsson | 73 | 69 | 71 | 79 | 77 | | Kanter | 75 | 67 | 73 | 79 | 80 |
Ahlstrand is clearly the fastest man in the race and he has decent back up stats as well, he looks the one to beat. He also brings two strong rouleurs to support him in Naud and Bolor-Erdene but the rest of the squad is fairly weak and none them look much like a lead out man.
Kennaugh, Vesely, and Halvorsen are in the next tier. All three of those bring much stronger teams and leadouts than Ahlstrand.
Howard and Kragh Andersen lack a little in acceleration. But the latter is strong on the flat while the former is gets up the hills a little better than most of them. Another relatively strong hill rider is CT flag-bearer, Saber. Silvestre is always good in tough races and Jakobsen has had many good results at this level. Reinhardt’s outstanding acceleration means he brings a somewhat unique skill set to the race.
None of the favorites are great in the hills, to find riders with a little more hill strength you have to go to mid-tier sprinters like Redecker, Hofstetter, and Naesen. Although those three are not close to the quality of a rider like Kump.
There are also a few rouleurs here who could be a threat for a late attack. Dzamastagic has done it more than once and Varga already won that way this season in Lillestrom. Another candidate is Faroe Island native, Veyhe.

We're not counting many overall victories this season. As a matter of fact we're still sitting on a large, fat 0. But we gathered more stage wins than last season and Ahlstrand is responsible for almost all of them. So, here is hoping he can add another victory to his season, this one associated with winning the race as well.
Thank you very much for the preview and good luck to all!

Thank you Ulrick for the amazing preview, nice touch with the flags
We dont have high hopes here, being a CT team in this field, but we're almost at home and know this climate very well from western Norway, so maybe we got a small chance. Will be hoping for extremely rainy and windy weather! |

Vesely finished second here last season, so there's only one possible way to improve

Deep field as always. We had a ton of luck with sprint classics last year. Not so much this year. The hills are never ideal for AKA, but as the preview mentions, they're not really ideal for anyone with enough speed to win, so hopefully that won't be a factor. To the extent the hills promote a generally tough race, hopefully AKA's resistance will help. Otherwise, we can only pray to the gods of the lottery.
Personally, I could see a rouleur taking this one. Awkward terrain, and we know they've been super active this season.
Thanks for the preview!

Have to be hopeful of a great result for Jakobsen here! Top 5 minimum for us to get our season properly back on track but hopefully even better. Got the support of Hofstetter as well which should help.
Thanks for the preview UU and good luck all

Would have hoped for a title defence from Kennaugh, but with the way the race panned out I am happy to take a third place from Dzama, he really has been a fun rider to follow this year, and seems to be the missing puzzle. Also nice to get some return on our race days after a couple of months that brought us back to reality! Congratulations to quadsas on a win, Halvorsen training paying off!
Thanks for the report Ulrich!

I knew we were screwed when we chased all day. We don't have the firepower to sustain that or do any kind of leadout. Then AKA launched from well over a km out, and I knew we were toast. 15th is terrible. AKA's rise, fall, rise, fall career arc has really been something to witness.
Congrats to Red Bull and thanks for the report!

Happy with 4th here for sure. Another really messy sprint so have to take that considering Howard was nowhere to be seen 1km out. Thanks for the report
