Let's look at all participating teams in detail:
| | | | | | | | | | Air New Zealand p/b Pirelli | CT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | FL | ST | CB | SP | | | Diaz | Daniel Ricardo | ARG | 33 | 67 | 67 | 55 | 60 | | | Fabbro | Matteo | ITA | 27 | 65 | 71 | 50 | 61 | | | Horvat | Ziga | SLO | 24 | 71 | 69 | 67 | 67 | | | Nolf | Frederik | BEL | 35 | 70 | 71 | 76 | 59 | | | Phelan | Adam | AUS | 31 | 71 | 73 | 56 | 64 | | | Puccio | Salvatore | ITA | 33 | 71 | 75 | 77 | 59 | | | Shalunov | Evgeny | RUS | 30 | 70 | 75 | 61 | 64 | | | Vink | Michael | NZL | 31 | 71 | 74 | 60 | 64
The first team in our preview is Air New Zealand p/b Pirelli, a new CT team.
They have brought in Salvatore Puccio (from Hello Fresh) to lead the team here. The other classics leader, Oliver Naesen, is absent in the line-up.
| | | | | | | | | | Amaysim Cervélo | PCT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | FL | ST | CB | SP | | | Bewley | Sam | NZL | 35 | 74 | 72 | 79 | 79 | | | Canty | Brendan | AUS | 30 | 70 | 71 | 52 | 68 | | | Monk | Cyrus | AUS | 26 | 74 | 76 | 76 | 61 | | | O'Connor | Ben | AUS | 27 | 70 | 70 | 53 | 58 | | | Schreurs | Hamish | NZL | 28 | 72 | 75 | 77 | 72 | | | Scotson | Callum | AUS | 26 | 72 | 73 | 75 | 66
Sam Bewley is a new signing for Amaysim Cervélo. The experienced leader already won Le Samyn this season.
In 2016 he already finished on the podium of this race, behind Cavendish and Kristoff. With Schreurs, Monk and Scotson the manager has brought in a great supporting cast for Bewley.
| | | | | | | | | | Bianchi - Panerai | CT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | FL | ST | CB | SP | | | Chatarunga | Sameera | SRI | 30 | 72 | 79 | 77 | 70 | | | Colleoni | Kevin | ITA | 23 | 65 | 65 | 60 | 64 | | | Dakteris | Janis | LAT | 31 | 75 | 74 | 72 | 77 | | | Eggenberg | Ruben | SWI | 22 | 64 | 62 | 58 | 63 | | | Hnik | Karel | CZE | 31 | 73 | 73 | 76 | 72 | | | Manakov | Viktor | RUS | 30 | 77 | 77 | 75 | 72 | | | Mulubrhan | Henok | ERI | 23 | 66 | 64 | 61 | 66 | | | Silva | Nihal | SRI | 28 | 75 | 69 | 72 | 77
Bianchi - Panerai is another new team this season. They have signed Sameera Chatarunga as leader from Amaysim Cervélo.
His best result in Kuurne to date is 16th in 2019.
| | | | | | | | | | Binance | PCT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | FL | ST | CB | SP | | | Blythe | Adam | GBR | 33 | 75 | 74 | 81 | 75 | | | Bush | Robert | USA | 32 | 74 | 75 | 78 | 71 | | | Goncalves | Gaspar | POR | 27 | 69 | 71 | 56 | 68 | | | Noppe | Christophe | BEL | 28 | 75 | 74 | 73 | 75 | | | Palyi | Csaba | HUN | 32 | 73 | 72 | 71 | 72 | | | Van Lerberghe | Bert | BEL | 30 | 74 | 75 | 77 | 75 | | | Venturini | Clement | FRA | 29 | 75 | 74 | 72 | 75 | | | Wirtgen | Luc | LUX | 24 | 70 | 72 | 58 | 66
Adam Blythe is another leader making a transfer this season, he swapped his Eurosport jersey for Binance.
Last year he nearly grabbed the win, finished 2th behind Stallaert. Surely Blythe is again among the favorites.
| | | | | | | | | | Bonduelle - Eesti Energia | CT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | FL | ST | CB | SP | | | Edmondson | Alexander | AUS | 29 | 73 | 72 | 74 | 77 | | | Merlier | Tim | BEL | 30 | 73 | 72 | 75 | 78 | | | Nommela | Aksel | EST | 28 | 70 | 69 | 72 | 76 | | | Perez | Anthony | FRA | 31 | 69 | 71 | 62 | 69 | | | Reynders | Jens | BEL | 24 | 67 | 68 | 69 | 66 | | | Talacka | Lukas | LTU | 28 | 72 | 71 | 63 | 61 | | | Touze | Damien | FRA | 26 | 71 | 73 | 70 | 70 | | | Welsford | Samuel | AUS | 26 | 69 | 73 | 64 | 71
Bonduelle - Eesti Energia is the third new team competing here in Kuurne.
At first sight they are aiming for a breakaway appearance as Merlier is better suited for C2 races.
| | | | | | | | | | Bralirwa - Stevens | PCT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | FL | ST | CB | SP | | | Hadi | Janvier | RWA | 30 | 68 | 73 | 61 | 74 | | | Khederi | Souheil | TUN | 31 | 67 | 68 | 59 | 58 | | | Lauk | Karl Patrick | EST | 25 | 74 | 68 | 67 | 72 | | | Menicucci | Samuele | SMR | 25 | 69 | 71 | 70 | 61 | | | Okbamariam | Tesfom | ERI | 31 | 73 | 70 | 76 | 72 | | | Stallaert | Joeri | BEL | 31 | 77 | 76 | 81 | 79 | | | Uhiriwe | Renus | RWA | 21 | 69 | 66 | 60 | 63
Joeri Stallaert doesn't really need an introduction. He dominated last year in the PCT division.
This season the bar is set again at a high standard. Especially here in Kuurne, where the Belgian is looking for a third win in four years.
| | | | | | | | | | BWT Hyundai N Cycling | CT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | FL | ST | CB | SP | | | Fenn | Andrew | GBR | 32 | 72 | 75 | 79 | 70 | | | Hocevar | Kristjan | SLO | 23 | 66 | 65 | 54 | 66 | | | Kolev | Yoan | BUL | 23 | 67 | 64 | 55 | 61 | | | Losch | Max | LUX | 29 | 73 | 72 | 71 | 78 | | | Paprstka | Tomas | CZE | 30 | 75 | 74 | 75 | 70 | | | Richardson | Chequan | BER | 29 | 71 | 68 | 78 | 60 | | | Stoenchev | Valentin | BUL | 31 | 74 | 73 | 58 | 63 | | | Tzortzakis | Polychronis | GRE | 33 | 69 | 72 | 54 | 74
BWT Hyundai brings Andrew Fenn as leader to the race. He came over from cycleYorkshire in the offseason.
The British cobbles specialist knows his way in Kuurne, finished 12th in 2019.
| | | | | | | | | | Carlsberg - Danske Bank | PCT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | FL | ST | CB | SP | | | Asgreen | Kasper | DEN | 27 | 67 | 70 | 55 | 64 | | | Girmay | Biniam | ERI | 22 | 71 | 70 | 73 | 71 | | | Lander | Sebastian | DEN | 31 | 77 | 77 | 73 | 79 | | | Mestric | Matija | CRO | 25 | 73 | 69 | 76 | 55 | | | Resell | Erik Nordsaeter | NOR | 26 | 75 | 73 | 76 | 61 | | | Skjelmose Jensen | Mattias | DEN | 22 | 70 | 66 | 58 | 64 | | | Trentin | Matteo | ITA | 33 | 73 | 74 | 80 | 74
Matteo Trentin is another man who is familiar in Kuurne, winning the race in 2020 (for Mapei).
He definitely wants to improve his result from last season, finishing 23rd.
| | | | | | | | | | Colombini-Adler AP | CT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | FL | ST | CB | SP | | | Bonello | Daniel | MLT | 22 | 68 | 68 | 67 | 66 | | | De Bondt | Dries | BEL | 31 | 76 | 72 | 72 | 74 | | | Giulietti | Luigi | SMR | 23 | 69 | 69 | 69 | 66 | | | Lampaert | Yves | BEL | 31 | 75 | 74 | 78 | 60 | | | Martino | Stan | SMR | 22 | 67 | 69 | 67 | 65 | | | Vainionpää | Oskari | FIN | 27 | 71 | 71 | 69 | 62 | | | Vliegen | Loic | BEL | 29 | 71 | 76 | 68 | 66 | | | Waerenskjold | Soren | NOR | 22 | 68 | 71 | 66 | 67
Colombini-Adler AP leave their star Lahcen Saber (winner at Gent-Wevelgem) at home. Instead they focus on Yves Lampaert, who is riding on home soil.
Last year Lampaert was riding for Stallaert, this season he can fully go for his own result.
| | | | | | | | | | HelloFresh - Lampre | PCT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | FL | ST | CB | SP | | | Battistella | Samuele | ITA | 24 | 70 | 69 | 63 | 67 | | | Daniel | Maxime | FRA | 31 | 73 | 76 | 80 | 76 | | | Kumara | Amith Udaya | SRI | 27 | 74 | 74 | 75 | 71 | | | Riesebeek | Oscar | NED | 30 | 74 | 73 | 73 | 69 | | | Rowe | Luke | GBR | 32 | 78 | 76 | 75 | 79 | | | Thwaites | Scott | GBR | 32 | 73 | 74 | 76 | 78 | | | Van Keirsbulck | Guillaume | BEL | 31 | 72 | 75 | 78 | 70 | | | Vingerling | Michael | NED | 32 | 71 | 72 | 68 | 79
Maxime Daniel is looking to score for his new team HelloFresh, coming over from Carrefour.
Last edition the Frenchman ended on the podium behind Stallaert and Blythe. The depth of support is quite impressive, with Van Keirsbulck (4th last year), Thwaites, Rowe and Kumara.
| | | | | | | | | | Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo PCTeam | PCT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | FL | ST | CB | SP | | | Biermans | Jenthe | BEL | 27 | 77 | 71 | 71 | 66 | | | Gamper | Patrick | AUT | 25 | 77 | 77 | 78 | 63 | | | Kroonen | Max | NED | 22 | 66 | 63 | 61 | 63 | | | Sajnok | Szymon | POL | 25 | 74 | 70 | 63 | 73 | | | Siddikov | Dilmurdjon | UZB | 25 | 73 | 74 | 68 | 65 | | | Van Aert | Wout | BEL | 28 | 75 | 72 | 68 | 64 | | | Verhelst | Louis | BEL | 32 | 71 | 72 | 74 | 62 | | | Verwilst | Aaron | BEL | 25 | 74 | 69 | 71 | 65
Lierse SK saw Kenneth Vanbilsen move to Trans Looney in the offseason.
This year they are focussing on Patrick Gamper. With his 25 years of age, he is great prospect to follow and should be able to contribute here.
| | | | | | | | | | Pas Normal Studios - Mikkeller | CT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | FL | ST | CB | SP | | | Besada | Felix Emilio | VEN | 31 | 68 | 74 | 58 | 56 | | | Johansen | Julius | DEN | 23 | 69 | 67 | 62 | 65 | | | Kristoff | Alexander | NOR | 35 | 69 | 66 | 72 | 77 | | | Price-Pejtersen | Johan | DEN | 23 | 68 | 66 | 60 | 61 | | | Taubel | Christoph | AUT | 31 | 73 | 69 | 78 | 61 | | | Vanmarcke | Sep | BEL | 34 | 73 | 72 | 77 | 67
Pas Normal Studios relies on the duo Christoph Taubel and Sep Vanmarcke. Vanmarcke was 6th here in Kuurne last year.
This year that would be a great result for the CT team.
| | | | | | | | | | Sauber Petronas Racing | PCT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | FL | ST | CB | SP | | | Antonelli | Michael | SMR | 23 | 68 | 67 | 56 | 65 | | | David | Tom | NZL | 32 | 74 | 76 | 78 | 70 | | | Forcellini | Luca | SMR | 32 | 67 | 70 | 52 | 61 | | | Ghani | Muhammad Suhaimi | MAS | 27 | 71 | 71 | 74 | 63 | | | Marzuki | Nur Amirul | MAS | 30 | 70 | 71 | 74 | 72 | | | Mat Senan | Mohammad Saufi | MAS | 32 | 69 | 74 | 51 | 58 | | | Pellaud | Simon | SWI | 30 | 70 | 74 | 55 | 65 | | | Schoonbroodt | Bob | NED | 31 | 72 | 75 | 74 | 68
Sauber Petronas Racing signed Tom David as new classics leader, coming over from Philips.
His sprint could maybe his only downside to get a cracking result here.
| | | | | | | | | | Staffbase - BHP | CT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | FL | ST | CB | SP | | | Boeckmans | Kris | BEL | 35 | 69 | 68 | 70 | 77 | | | Hollmann | Juri | GER | 23 | 68 | 66 | 68 | 61 | | | Koch | Jonas | GER | 29 | 73 | 71 | 69 | 72 | | | Plowright | Jensen | AUS | 22 | 67 | 63 | 61 | 69 | | | Schachmann | Maximillian | GER | 30 | 66 | 74 | 58 | 69 | | | Sunderland | Dylan | AUS | 26 | 65 | 64 | 60 | 67 | | | Van Dijke | Tim | NED | 22 | 70 | 68 | 66 | 68 | | | Vermeersch | Gianni | BEL | 30 | 77 | 74 | 75 | 74
New team Staffbase is warming up for the C2 races, what looks to be better suited for the likes of Vermeersch (from Aegon) and Boeckmans (from Carrefour).
| | | | | | | | | | Strava | PCT |

Strava has changed their classics line-up, signing Lucas Gaday (from Generali) and Logan Owen (from Podium Ambition).
Owen finished 14th here in 2020.
| | | | | | | | | | Tafjord Kraft | CT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | FL | ST | CB | SP | | | Andersson | Emil | SWD | 29 | 71 | 74 | 63 | 76 | | | Bertilsson | Christian | SWD | 31 | 73 | 72 | 60 | 79 | | | Breen | Vegard | NOR | 32 | 77 | 72 | 78 | 73 | | | Bugge | Vegard Robinson | NOR | 33 | 68 | 71 | 67 | 62 | | | Eislers | Sandis | LAT | 29 | 74 | 71 | 62 | 76 | | | Kaislavuo | Jesse | FIN | 29 | 73 | 73 | 73 | 67 | | | Lindau | Philip | SWD | 31 | 72 | 74 | 52 | 61 | | | Waersted | Syver | NOR | 26 | 73 | 69 | 60 | 78
Vegard Breen is looking to repeat his consistent results from previous years: 12th (2020), 7th (2019) and 5th (2018).
He will eager to impress his new manager, coming over from Assa Abloy.

Bewley had a very solid to great start into the season and given the profile here, I fancy his chances to add another scoring result. A podium must be the goal, I guess, as I expect a bunch sprint here.
Thanks for the detailed report!

Thanks for the great preview!
Hoping for closer to 2020 Trentin than 2021 Trentin here despite the decline. We'll see hwot he race unfolds. If somehow it's unselective maybe Lander can actually be useful.

Had to choose between Juarez and here for Saber. Hopefully I don’t regret my decision to not send Saber here. Hoping Lampaert can score some points at the least.
Thanks for the preview

Fortunately I'm not doing cobbles this year (again), else I'd write: Please, could Stallaert go up to PT?
However, as tsmoha wrote, the profile makes this one likely to end up in a (small) bunch sprint, so Bewley should definitely be tough opponent - but also the likes of Rowe, Merlier, Lander or similar cob/spr combo guys could be in the mix. Such a profile screams "Saber" as well, but yeah, can't go everywhere

Bonduelle - Eesti Energia is the third new team competing here in Kuurne.
At first sight they are aiming for a breakaway appearance as Merlier is better suited for C2 races.
We are absolutely here to see if we can get in the break. No expectations whatsoever. |

Lets hope this doesn’t bite us in the behind at the end of the season. I knew Lampaert wouldn’t be the one attacking and sprinting definitely isn’t his forté. But, Saber can still prove sending him to Mexico was the best choice. If he doesn’t, lets call it lack of experience ????

Very solid race for us. Mestric with an impressive ride to keep things together, and it was nice to see him hang on for 18th. I was hoping the race was gonna break up more when Stallaert went on that final cobbles sector, but they just weren't difficult enough to force a big gap, which was predictable.
I really thought Trentin timed that final attack perfectly to be honest, but there were just too many domestiques and outsiders hanging around for it to work out. Then when I saw he had been caught and cracked, I feared the worst - that we would end up outside the top 10. Luckily there was just enough time to recover, and he was at the front for the sprint. 4th place behind the guys ahead is a good result that I'm satisfied with.Since the Franceville disaster, he's been in that 3-6 range consistently, and that's basically all I can ask for.
Only disappointing part is our depth guys were 29th-31st! We keep just missing out on the scoring positions with them. Only a few points difference, but always feels good if they score.
Congrats to cunego and amazing report as always Nemo!

It looked good, but when everyone came back I knew that top 10 wasn't going to happen.
As always, thanks for the nice report Nemolito!
As always, congrats on the Stallaert win Cunego!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

The result is fair enough, definitely can live with a strong 2nd place behind the top favorite! Bewley enjoys a very good start into the season, which is obviously something we had hoped for when going after him in the off-season.
Thanks for the report and congratulations to the winner!

Thanks for reporting and congrats to the winners.
Finally Gianni could show why we wanted him. I am happy about that result and hope he will continue like that. And maybe someday there will be a win on our list

Back from vacation and just catching up on stuff. This is obviously a very pleasant result. Stallaert is just continuing to do Stallaert things, it's a lovely sight. Thanks for all the congrats, and thank you for the report Nemo
