Tour d'Andorra - Preview
Mountains, Mountains, Mountains, Mountain TT, Mountains.
Welcome to Andorra for 5 of the most brutal stages in the Man-Game calendar combined in one C1 race. Stages 1, 3 and 5 have Mountain Top Finishes while Stage 4 is an uphill 15km TT. The best climbers will be tested to their limits while depth may also be a factor to see if the Peloton can control the inevitably strong breakaways as riders hunt for King of the Mountains and Stage glory.
As you'd expect for a race like this, we have a very strong start list which definitely doesn't favour those here from the CT.
Pluchkin would have to be top favourite as the equal best climber but generally better all-round rider. The other top climber here is Alarcon but he may struggle with having 5 days of climbing back to back.
The next duo will also be hoping to be in the hat for the GC win. Quintana has been hit and miss this season but he's shown he's capable of winning races. Wellens is an almost identical rider and should also be competitive.
It's then a real mix of riders but the top favourites to fight for the podium and Top 5 should be Monsalve, Guldhammer, Carthy, Oomen and Shikai. The ability to ride against the clock and their general in-race aggression does vary somewhat but they should all be competitive here.
The final rider we will touch on is Amador who carries the hopes of the CT on his shoulders but it could be a tough ask to even make the Top 10 here.

Hoping for a good result behind Pluchkin's dominant win here. Very strong startlist obviously, especially for a C1 race, but that was expected.
Guldhammer is here with all our doms besides Warbasse. We'll see how it goes. Having all these grueling stages back to back might give the others a chance to exploit his backup stats more than other races during the season. Stage 2 in particular though looks like one we might want to take advantage of given the downhill finish.
Thanks for the preview!

Was hoping for Dan Martin to steak a top 15 but the field looks too strong.
Maybe we'll fluke a stage win and top 25. I've mustered as much of a Mountain Time Trial Team but it ain't much...

Should be another easy dub for Keizer. I played high quality mind games by saying that Vineyards was his last tour, ha got em

Top10 and tight fight for White between Bernal/Padun seems like the best possible scenario for my team in such stacked field.
Thanks for preview and good luck to everyone.

Looks like we can't expect better than Top 15 from Penasa but hoping for a top 10. Also hoping for Talansky to retain his good form.
Thanks for the preview

Made a planning mistake by picking this race. Alarcon most likely won't do well here.
Thanks for the preview

Thought we had a decent climbing squad here, but with this start list we should be happy to get a top 25 |

I guess that breakaway was our only hope in getting some decent points in this race. Atapuma now in 22nd. Let's hope he can climb a few places tomorrow.
Thanks for the report! |

Really should have had men in the break. At least we have some semi- interest in the GC

Welp. C1 race I guess. Only good thing to say when Guldhammer loses 4 minutes and finishes 25th on a mountain top finish. This types of long, gradual climbs just don't suit him I guess. He was at the front at the base and just completely cracked very early.
With GC out the window, I'm not sure where we go from here. Maybe a chance to attack for the stage tomorrow. After that it's kind of race over.

Timmy! Wellens really taking off for the first time since February, although we might've hoped for a few more victories before now. Nonetheless, he really rode well today - breaking the favourites group down and then hitting them with a killer blow. Here's hoping he can hold on to that lead, and maybe sneak in another stage win or two. Big thanks for the report LLS. |

Guess our hopes of a good GC are over after the first stage itself.

Why was my team all over the front all day when our best GC guy is 25th if we weren't even going to close down the break? Pretty sad performance.
With Guldhammer completely bombing the GC and then his best stage opportunity going to the break, really seems like a race to forget for us. Even if we have a couple of surprise placings now, we'll still lose ground in the promotion hunt.

Alarcon did well in the first stage, that's the one that suited him most. I guess stage 2 was always likely to be a breakaway win. I expect to lose lots of time in the next stages.
Thanks for the reports

Better from the team with some breakaway action. Good day for Anguilet. Just not enough but good 2nd place nonetheless. Helps with the team standings too. Let's see if we can remain active throughout the race.
Congrats to UBS and thanks for the report
