Ranking Update - April to June
This is the PCT ranking update for the months of April, May and June presented to you by SoTD and yours truly - ivaneurope
Team Popo4Ever p/b Nemiroff had strong April-May month with the points coming from the two visits in the Alps - Tour de Romandie and the Österreicher Rundfahrt. Since they still have the best rider in the division, PluBear's contributions were the key to their 736 points. However on their tail was the Polar team. Though they didn't had a 200+ point race over these two months, they did had five races where they've scored 100 points or more which got them 733 points overall. Carlsberg, Aker and Cedevita also have 500 points or more.
In the lower half of Top 10 we have five teams separated by only 60 points which shows you how fierce the battle for overall position is. Similairly the teams from 11th to 15th are separated by 72 points with only 26 points separated the 10th and 11th place teams. Even as we go further down the order we'll see more teams grouped in a tight margin - the teams from 16th to 21st are grouped in a 60 point margin. 200 of the 268 points Sauber got were from the C1 Tour of Chile, but unfortunately they couldn't replicate this performance. Further down the order we have Red Bull, Tryg, Kraftwerk in another tight margin (Red Bull Zalgiris didn't had the best of days which certainly won't make their boss happy), while Carrefour and Eurosport round out the field with the Eurosport - GCN team scoring less than 100 points.

Even the month of June doesn't disappoint by having teams grouped up in tight margins. The first four teams are separated by 51 points with Jura - Fiat leading the charge this month thanks to their Tour of Japan performance. Meanwhile the gap between the 5th placed Team Popo4Ever p/b Nemiroff and the 13th cycleYorkshire is only 75 points. That's 9 teams separated by just 75 points.
In the midfield we have a 36 points between the 14th and 21st place, but after that the gaps become larger. as 26 points separate Lierse from Sauber. Kraftwerk barely managed to score 100+ points. Not so fortunate were Carrefour, Podium Ambition and Minions.

So how those three months shaped the rankings. Well, there were changes - a lot. Team Popo4Ever p/b Nemiroff has managed to reclaim its first position in the standings, but below them things are different. While Aker - MOT, Bralirwa - Stevens and Binance Cycling remain in the Top 5, Carlsberg - Danske Bank leapfroged to 4th after being just 10th in the last ranking update. Cedevita also moved places - going from 9th to 6th with a realistic chance of promotion. Assa Abloy were 14th last time, now they're 8th, while Polar's strong April-May period lauched them in the Top 10.
The fortunes weren't kind of Red Bull Zalgiris as they are now 7th after being 3rd after March, though they still have a realistic shot at promotion. Team UBS was also hampered, being booted outside the Top 10, the same applies to Lierse. In the battle for survival - the strong Tour of Japan helped Jura - Fiat's cause a bit by moving to 19th. Kraftwerk on the other hand is now in the danger zone along with Podium Ambition, Tryg - Ritter Sport, Voyagin Bird and Eurosport - GCN. Voyagin and Eurosport are yet to cross the 1000 point mark

Took a while for T3A to finally drop into the relegation zone!
Ewan is valiantly trying to single handedly save the team, bright side here is the coming change to sprinter wages might make him CT viable (boy, wouldn't that be a sight!) or again as i keep saying at least it will make other vastly more expensive in renewals. But it's looking like he won't crack the Top30 Indi ranking come seasons end. That ~60 point gap will vanish to more stage racers as he's starting to run low on remaining races. And yet again at least it was never an issue of planning or management.
AC was never going to recreate last seasons scoring. He's still done pretty well, and scoring against his wage and similar costing riders is fair. Should be a solid retain in the CT where he will likely be a Top30 Indi rider with some training.
Altur... Do we really need to hear me talk again about how he's the worst training spend in MG history? Am i too deep in the debt hole on the Spaniard to hold him in the CT and see if that works? It's a genuine consideration, even as i have doubts he'll make the Top75 Indi ranking as an 82CB rider.
Meyer remains out 4th rider which of course is where the struggles lie this year. At least we knew this was a write off season just about stacking and getting a jump on our rider development programme. Even a drop to the CT shouldn't bee too bad from this aspect with minimal Lvl4 riders needing upwards loans. And it's a good excuse to delay one or two genuine Caribbean talents another year in the hopes they can get added with even better stats.
I am aware in Projected we are safe, however i know we have the ToA to come without any good riders attending. So that Projected is hugely inflated right now and we will definitely not top 2000 points, more likely 1600. Up side, feeling confident we won't come last, and our pre-planning means a relegation doesn't surprise or really hurt.

That June-only ranking is not what I want to see, but we only raced in those two races. April-May looked decent.
We've dropped a few places in the rankings but not in immediate relegation danger, and we've already had some good results in early July. Promotion is fully out of the picture but that would have been a huge comeback.
Surprised to see Uran still be the highest scorer after two declines, shows how much Hagen and Vesely disappointed so far. Hodeg still punching above his weight.

Well, I can't be disappointed with this, that's for sure. We did everything we needed to in this period, thanks to Guldhammer and AKA.
Guldhammer has just been phenomenal. His win in Apex was great, but the points have really come from his ability to rise above peers and place highly in higher ranked races, like in Austria. He's also soaked up stages and worn a lot of jerseys. He's just been everything I wanted and more. His few weaker races have been more than made up for elsewhere. Seeing him pull my team into the PCT promotion zone is really special.
Seeing AKA be this good is maybe even more satisfying though. I had given up on him. The only reason I renewed and kept him was because I had given up on sprinting and figured he'd be as good as any other second tier guy in PCT. Well, he's been better than most second tier guys, that's for sure. In fact, I think the fact that he's only 14th and behind some other sprinters is a little misleading because I didn't even plan him to be a top scorer for us. I skipped a lot of the pure sprinters classics and stage races; he's scored this much mostly from stage placings, which is crazy. It's like watching your child get their dream job. Except AKA is 7 years older than me.
Rest of the team has been mixed. Trentin's season is almost over, and he was okay. Had a few too many bad days on the cobbles, but Sinkeldam picked him up a few times. Not a lot of cobbles guys near the top given Stallaert's dominance anyway. Depth has definitely been lacking. I've sent Warbasse and Aranburu to a lot of races in support, and they've been pretty unwilling to stick around for minor placings. Especially Aranburu has unfortunately been a complete dud. But Rasmus and AKA have carried them anyway.
So, the outlook. Well, we haven't raced much recently, but there are some busier periods ahead. So we should make up a bit of the race day deficit that's inflating our PpRD, and that will give us an idea where we stand. We're also in the Tour of America, so we can expect a dip there unless Warbasse goes full 2019 somehow. It would hurt to come really close to promotion and fail, so I guess that's the goal now. It would completely change my team direction and outlook, but I don't want to get ahead of myself.
Overall, the division is still pretty evenly matched up and down compared to most years, as predicted. Pretty good competitive balance.

There's been a lot less fireworks for our team this past few months, however we are still doing enough to avoid the drop. Chile was a standout performance however it was a one off and we need to get back to good form so it doesn't look like a fluke.

Still everything to race for for the bottom 10 teams. We’re one of the luckier ones with RD’s in hand, but are also in ToA so we’ll see how that goes. I honestly thought we’d be much, much worse off than this by now. We’ve had so many poor performances and a lot of bad luck, if we could get the rub of the green in a few races and have riders like Warchol actually try we’re in with a good shot in staying up. Says a lot considering our lack of recent results, can’t believe we’re ranked 6th for June?!
Feel bad for Voyagin. Something just hasn’t clicked there this season. Would love them to miraculously pull themselves to safety even if it is at our expense.
I imagine although Kraftwerk have fallen dramatically, they’ll be looking to dominate ToA again with their extra RD’s so this ranking probably looks a lot worse than it actually is.

Wellens has been performing at about the level one might expect of him, although his failure to find victory in lesser categories means that he hasn't been on par with last season.
Skujins has been doing marginally better through the middle third of the season, for which we are thankful because the beginnings were atrocious. Thankfully Hoelgaard and Smirnovs have done well when racing independently; although this is not enough to make up the ground we need.
We have 21 RDs left to split between the pair; 38 RDs gone. That means we should see about 600 more points, with a little bit more from our other riders could see us hitting 1800. Probably not enough to survive, and we aren't set up to rubberband back into ProConti - definitely went up a year too early. |

Finally being out of the relegation spots looks good but we're only just above the cutoff considering PpRD. Still not out of the relegation danger. July will be important because it's the last really loaded month for us. Let's hope we keep our upturn going.

Good to see us stay in the promotion spots! Happy with that, as it feels like we haven't maxed our potential considering our leaders. Anderberg has been phenomenal. Rock solid, topped with the dominant win in the Arenberg TT makes it a brilliant season so far for him. That obviously also goes for Laengen, who has been a great, great rider for us this season. Performing above his weight in TTs, and then, somehow, managing to ride home some sort of GC result almost whereever he goes. It makes me regret not sending him, but Galta to Vineyards 
Speaking of Galta, he has been our big letdown so far. He gets another chance to turn it around in Vineyards, but I must admit I'm not too hopeful, based on his season so far. It's never too late to get it right, though
Kwiatkowski also with mixed results compared to least season. And it's very easy to compare his results to last year, as he was great there. That makes me almost always wanting more from him, as it's especially weird to see him get sort of consistently beaten by Beltran, while it was the complete other way around last year. He'll get back to racing and have several good opportunities, and at least he feels like a solid leader, much more than Galta. |

Not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be as we've had torrid time since last update. Still have some possibly high scoring races left to go, but I don't think we'll end up promoting, best hope is to stay in top 10. Lekdeeznuts with 98 points is madness though

We keep surpassing expectations 
The scoring in Norway was crazy without a leader. On paper it looks like we're fighting for promotion, but I don't see us keeping up this level with the races we have remaining.
Awesome to see Beltran back to being the divisions best "puncheur" again. Maybe he manages to win the non-Pluchkin individual rankings

Kraftwerk with the lowest race days need to score during the remaining races.
We are 16th by PpRD so hope to finish mid table.
ToA will be key for Kraftwerk, Concerned Haller will be sprint favourite which is not a good role in the current PCM version.

We're likely settling in our expected range of placement I guess. Borges early season success hinted at a top10, but after the South Africa disaster and our fall from grace in recent TTTs it seems very unlikely we can offset the vacuum Gesink is leaving in our expected point-scoring ability.
Anyway there are still a couple of races where we may have good chances so I think we're safe finishing mid-table this season.
Curious to see if this is finally the year Pluchkin goes back to PT.

I expected to see my team much higher at this point of season. Terrible performances here and there (hello Baugnies, hello TTT squad) caused I´m pretty unsure about our promotion chances. Yet we are 6th at PpRD at the moment, with some luck and good performances it can still turn out fine. Let´s see what happens in upcoming months.

Thanks for the update, sorry for not commenting much on races lately. Tough period for us, all the more amazing that we're still in the Top 5, even in projected points. Stallaert only has one race left, but Silvestre has tons of scoring potential still. He needs to step it up again though after a couple of not great performances if we actually want to try and promote. Still a wild thing to say ...
Happy to see Carlsberg doing well, and LPH's three leader strategy is really paying off now as well! Incredibly close race at the bottom, arguably everyone from 16th down is in acute danger. Exciting few months left ahead of us!

Also happy to see some of my companion promoting teams doing well. Don't know if we're safe safe already, but it's looking good with some nice point, Celtic Chrono not included and some more scoring opportunities for all three leaders to come. Manninen has been great again. 1000 points will be hard with only two races to go, but never say never.

Nice to see Carlsberg and Bralirwa mixing it, Lierse is a bit lower than expected looking at team strength but they have a massive amount of RDs in hand and could be a team to look out for in regards to a late season burst towards the upper echelons of the standings!
Pluchkin is still a beast even on his second decline, will be really interesting to see how big of a tumble he takes next season, especially considering that Popo4Ever most likely are going to promote at this rate!

May have missed the odd race here and there, but the results both Plichkin and Padun are getting are rather insane. Looking very solid for promotion indeed, but just like last time I feel like my team isn't in a great position with Pluchkin obviously taking a big hit next year...
Prevar, Lutsyshyn and Ackermann also scoring decent points, but they really are hit and miss so far, and Budyak gamble in C2 isn't paying off what I would have liked, however I should not complain too much
