Strade Bianche
Tuscany is the destination as the top Puncheurs of the PCT will bide their time and save their energy to fight it out over the final few bumps in the road leading to the finish line. Historically, the gaps have been small between riders but there has still been a show of strength in which the best man has come out on top.
Podium History
| 1st | 2nd | 3rd | 2020 | Borges | Schreurs | Di Maggio | 2019 | Skujins | Bakelants | Mahoric | 2018 | Ponzi | Lutsenko | Kelderman |
It is an HC race which means no one from the Pro Tour and no CT teams trying their luck here either. However, this doesn't mean it's a weaker field as we are stacked with talent! Last year's top 2 are present but they'll have a hard time repeating their efforts of 2020.
It's pretty difficult to pick out a clear favourite but you'd expect the quartet of Boasson Hagen, Skujins, Kelderman and Ponzi to be the most heavily backed by the bookies.
| Rider | HIL | ACC | FTR | | Boasson Hagen | 83 | 76 | 73 | | Skujins | 83 | 76 | 66 | | Kelderman | 82 | 72 | 77 | | Ponzi | 82 | 77 | 75 | | Kwiatkowski | 81 | 75 | 73 | | Beltran | 81 | 76 | 78 | | McCarthy | 81 | 74 | 71 | | Di Maggio | 81 | 74 | 66 | | Van Garderen | 81 | 78 | 79 | | Paulinho | 80 | 75 | 70 | | Bakelants | 80 | 72 | 70 | | Borges | 80 | 81 | 75 | | Schreurs | 80 | 72 | 68 | | Jensen | 80 | 76 | 81 | | Betancourt | 80 | 74 | 75 | | Prevar | 80 | 73 | 63 |

Another puncheur race we have to be at unfortunately. Not much hope to do anything unless Aranburu does something from distance.
Thanks for the preview LLS!

Bakelandts has been semi-solid this year for the low wage, and really think this is a sort of stage where Quevedo should show himself as a super helpful domestique. Rest of the squad here outside of those two and kuboki are really just here to avoid using race days on other guys, but given we aren't out and out favorites, we won't need to do much pacing and such.
Thanks for the preview btw! |

This is how I feel about non-C2 hilly races this year as well I'll be happy if Vendrame, Vliegen and Schoonbroodt manage to avoid our first zero pointer of the year!

Any points would be great here. Even with training De Plus can't make the preview. His good MO stat won't help much either.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

We need a good performance like with every Beltran race, although this one doesn't suit him that well. Hopefully the improved support helps him.
Thanks for the preview

Hopefully Kwiat is strong enough to mix it with the world class puncheurs. We need to get his season rolling, and Strade would be a perfect start! Though, competition is sensational.
Looking forward to the report! |

Jensen has had a good season so far and has been super aggressive in all his races. If he can follow attacks here and work his way into the top-10, that would be amazing.
Thanks for the preview!

Second zero pointer in quick succession and not per se surprising on a hilly classic. But the way we approached it was still disappointing. I expect us to at least be in the breakaway, and even after getting caught behind in the split (which is somewhat expected), our best rider can't be Moise Mugisha in 94th place. Oh well, onto the next.
Congrats ryant, great stretch by McCarthy with this and Nederland! And thanks for the report LLS!

I didn't have high expectations for this race. Beltran was 7th last year and with the improved competition I wasn't expecting an improvement from him. My only hope was getting better domestiques to back him up would help. It sure did!
I loved that we had multiple riders controlling the race and then making it difficult. Beltran is almost always better when he's on the attack. We couldn't quite make it a small enough group as this profile isn't very selective. Still to come away with 5th is quite outstanding
On another day he might finish even a bit better given the guys that finished ahead of him. I was also hoping we could get one more rider in the top 30 for some depth, but all that isn't that important now. The points haul is very good and gives me some optimism for the other hilly classics
Thanks for the nice report LLS

De Plus was there, then he loses over a minute in the sprint
Still, good result in this field. Thanks for the report!

It looked a lot like Skujins went too early on the final climb; he certainly suffered for it. Have to wonder how much harm was done by the early destruction of his support structure, but disappointing nonetheless.
It seems like gaps are essentially nonexistent amongst favourites in hilly classics this year. |

Thank you for the report, LLS!
Another very, very competitive hilly race. Happy to be on the right side this time, with Kwiatkowski landing 2nd place. Considering the profile and who was rightfully favourites pre-race, that's a great result. Guess he was kind of lucky to keep his powder dry for the sprint, and not doing anything before that. It worked out this time, but I hope he can turn the switch and be more of the Kwiatkowski I got used to last season, being aggressive and always "up there" when the attacks came. |

Boasson Hagen just isn't living up to expectations. With any of my previous puncheurs I'd be happy with ninth but from him I expected great things. Onto the next I guess.
Thanks for the report LLS and congrats ryant!

Congrats ryant! Lost out on the lottery here. Jensen's been great so far, so 2RD used with a mediocre return isn't the worst. Very odd finish here though with a bunch of riders going for it like that, sucks some missed out but on to the next one. Dunbar is our mn going forward for the next batch of races until Warchol takes over with his first race halfway through the season, so hopefully they can give it a red hot go.
Thanks for the report!

Missing out on the top10 is not ideal here, but this field is quite unbelievable for a HC race anyway, so I guess we have to be thankful for a top15
Congrats on the victory ryant and thanks for the report LLS!

Nice to be in the break with two youngsters, the ´right´ riderz. Too bad Munoz is 26th and falls just outside of the points. (Or is the top-30 scoring?). Thanks for your first official report, LLS, really great
