A parcours of 6 laps with a uphill section on asphalt and a downhill with paves. Rather unique profile then. In between not the toughest sections but some small hills and a bit of cobbles here and there.
Just 10 teams and most of them with only 6 or 7 riders! Smallest field all year and I won`t even mention Tryg more than once in this preview, only mention to rate their leader lower than the control team. Still chance to score in such small field.
Instead of going for the top riders as usual, a short mention of a almost PT worthy depth in a CT team as Crabbe seems to have had fun to collect lots of top quality cobblers with allround skills.
| Fl | Hi | Cob | Sp | Declerq | 74 | 73 | 77 | 67 | Naesen | 75 | 72 | 76 | 77 | Domene | 73 | 57 | 76 | 74 | Tsatevich | 74 | 77 | 75 | 75 | Ariesen | 75 | 68 | 75 | 70 | Manakov | 77 | 58 | 75 | 72 | Nareklishvili | 66 | 65 | 70 | 64 | Serry | 67 | 77 | 66 | 61 |
Clearly the team capable to control the race the most and having like 3-4 riders, who potentially can win the race with the hill or sprint backups.
Only two teams somehow can match this support:
TransLooney with the top favourite for the cobbles and some support for all kind of scenarios but 1 rider less.
| Fl | Hi | Cob | Sp | Vanspeybrouck | 74 | 69 | 80 | 65 | Kolev | 75 | 62 | 77 | 62 | Abraha | 72 | 64 | 75 | 74 | Keukeleire | 71 | 69 | 70 | 79 | Munoz | 63 | 70 | 65 | 57 | Primozic | 67 | 71 | 61 | 66 | Calmejane | 74 | 77 | 60 | 72 |
And HelloFresh with a full team around 2019 winner Van Keirsbulck
| Fl | Hi | Cob | Sp | Van Keirsbulck | 72 | 71 | 78 | 70 | Puccio | 72 | 66 | 78 | 60 | Thwaites | 73 | 65 | 76 | 78 | Kumara | 74 | 67 | 75 | 71 | Riesebeek | 74 | 73 | 73 | 69 | Tikhonin | 69 | 69 | 63 | 68 | De Vos | 68 | 75 | 59 | 62 | Gaspar | 71 | 75 | 55 | 61 |
Let`s see the full list of 23 riders having a cobble stat of 70+!
Many riders belong to the teams above obviously.
Then there still is Nolf with Skala for Carrefour, Tom David with Bovenhuis for Philips and yes, all other leaders are expected to be isolated quickly seeing there is no single cobble support for them. This in especially goes for Carlsberg`s Sinkeldam, 3rd from last year, Moulingui for Eurosport or Gamper for Lierse.
Obviously clashing with HC cobbles in Omloop not helping teams, who aim both races.
| Fl | Hi | Cob | Sp | Vanspeybrouck | 74 | 69 | 80 | 65 | Nolf | 72 | 64 | 78 | 61 | Moulingui | 74 | 71 | 78 | 65 | Van Keirsbulck | 72 | 71 | 78 | 70 | Puccio | 72 | 66 | 78 | 60 | David | 74 | 75 | 78 | 70 | Sinkeldam | 74 | 75 | 77 | 68 | Declerq | 74 | 73 | 77 | 67 | Kolev | 75 | 62 | 77 | 62 | Naesen | 75 | 72 | 76 | 77 | Domene | 73 | 57 | 76 | 74 | Thwaites | 73 | 65 | 76 | 78 | Gamper | 75 | 66 | 76 | 63 | Tsatevich | 74 | 77 | 75 | 75 | Ariesen | 75 | 68 | 75 | 70 | Manakov | 77 | 58 | 75 | 72 | Kumara | 74 | 67 | 75 | 71 | Abraha | 72 | 64 | 75 | 74 | Skala | 74 | 71 | 74 | 66 | Bovenhuis | 73 | 71 | 74 | 62 | Riesebeek | 74 | 73 | 73 | 69 | Nareklishvili | 66 | 65 | 70 | 64 | Keukeleire | 71 | 69 | 70 | 79 |
Couple very good puncheurs are here as well. De Plus, Hugentobler, Gautier as top 3. Time will tell if those will be for support or actually are able to surprise the cobblers.

This could be a very weird race! But with so few teams here, there could be some points won as well!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

This will be fun! Hoping that the focus of Crabbe pays off, they were amazing to watch so far!

One of my favourite races of the season! Obviously looking for GVK to replicate his performance from 2019, going to be interesting to see how the game handles this tiny startlist! Thanks for the preview!

Damn, that is an insanely small startlist! The clash took more teams out of this than I thought possible. Might have been better off sending some support riders here to mop up depth points but eh, probably more useful in Omloop.
Seeing how few guys are here makes me happier that I chose to come. Sinkeldam was third last year, and the combination of hills and cobbles continues to be an ideal situation for him. He has the all around ability to do well here again, though his complete lack of support won't help, which I acknowledge. With most of the cobbles team going to Omloop, we're left with a rag tag group of talents, climbers, and puncheurs. Sinkeldam will be isolated quickly and will have to be on his toes the entire time.
The competition is wide if not insurmountable. Sinkeldam once again meets his old leader VSB, but VSB's declines have hit his climbing and secondaries significantly now. Perhaps our biggest rival is David, the quintessential cobbles/puncheur hybrid. Hopefully our slight mountain advanatge plays against him well. Then obviously Declerq has a similar skillset but with way, way more support, including Tsatevich, and VKB is right there too. A lot of players here despite the small startlist overall.
Of course, everything will be thrown for a wrinkle with the tiny startlist here. No idea what the AI might do. Could easily be a breakaway win, but then again, the few teams that are all in here (Crabbe, Trans, HelloFresh), all have extremely strong teams that could sort of the race and isolate people very early, if they so choose. Or, one of them could get a guy in the break and effectively end the race. It could end up as an epic marathon or a compelte snoozefest based on how the AI handles the small startlist. But I'm ready either way.
Thanks for the preview!

Holy moly, what a startlist, looks like we are back in 2013. This could be the race that pushes Crabbe from a promotion contender to a title contender if the race plays out favorably. |

I'm not sure if I can expect any point from this race which in reality wasn't a priority in our calendar But I will stay optimistic this time haha

McCormick has a strict philosophy of cobbles bad, hilly cobbles very bad. Maybe I need to change that.
PCM20 AI handles multiple cobbles leaders pretty well so I think Crabbe with a chance to really benefit. And more recent versions generally handle hilly cobbles much better but still some risk there.

With such a small starting list my cobbles team... Wait, what cobbles team? Looking at it now this race might have provided some points, but all the cobbles races in my calendar are for our young riders to gather experience. So no matter how small or large the start list is I'm not expecting any points from such races anyway.
Good luck to all! |

With that profile, you might want to add the mountain stat to the preview.
I'll follow this race intently, with Tim Declerq as one of the big favorites and our two loanees Nieuwenhuis and Groß featuring in the Tryg Development squad.

I honestly have no idea how Sinkeldam could be that bad. I look at his stats, look at the profile, look at his competitors... and I just don't see it. The fact that Stocek and Olesen managed to finish on par with him shows just how insanely disastrous that performance was for him. Olesen has 63 cobble and Stocek doesn't have a single main or energy stat in the 70's. Sinkeldam should have finished many minutes in front of them, with the select few other favorites. The race suited him perfectly and he had absolutely nothing. I wouldn't expect that even on the worst of daily form days. The fact that he even unexpectedly had domestiques with him makes it even worse. But it happened, and we have to accept it.
Not a good day for us between here and Omloop. Cobbles are a focus of ours and we count on these points, and we lost them to other teams. But we've got to move on.
Congrats to Lierse who played it very intelligently. And thanks to Roturn for the great report. It was definitely an interesting race to follow as the small startlist made every attack suspenseful. A breakaway win always seemed possible, but it developed in a captivating way for sure.

Well that was weird, but really happy it turned out in our favour for once. Combined with the minor points we're getting here, I'd say we're back to where we should be point wise. Still, I need my leaders to start scoring. Bonifazio only sprinted once so far, Vanbilsen is missing out on top 10's he should always get and well, De Plus probably got his best result of the season in a cobbled race
Thanks for the report Roturn!

I'm super happy with the result. I thought Calmejane will have a much more difficult day on cobbles but at the and he was a support to our leader Vanspeybrouck who finished in 4th place.
Congrats on winning Lierse SK and thanks Roturn for the preview and report.

2nd is probably about as good as we could expect here. The Boss being the one to acheive that tho, not expected, I must admit. Thanks for a great report as Castelo yet again produces a fantastic race!

Don't understand how our second best rider gets put into a break in a race like this and no one gets into breaks when we have only sub-top leaders! 7th place after being top favourite is really disappointing. Not sure why we keep getting screwed over like this. February hasn't started well and there's a lot of 2019 dejavu at the moment unfortunately. Hope this changes soon.
Congrats to Ollfardh and thanks for the report!
