Welcome to the (lucky?) 13th edition of the Tour de Langkawi. The race has been ever present on the MG calendar since 2008. Comprising a prologue, 4 sprint stages and 2 mountain top finishes. This race attracts most of the best climbers and sprinters the CT division has to offer. We have one former winner on the startlist with Darwin Atapuma, winner from 2015.
With that said let's look at some of the favourites:
| FLA | MON | HIL | STA | RES | ACC | Pinot | 72 | 80 | 74 | 76 | 79 | 69 | Frankiny | 69 | 78 | 76 | 72 | 75 | 75 | Ranaweera | 66 | 80 | 73 | 75 | 75 | 65 | Keinath | 73 | 78 | 75 | 76 | 75 | 69 | Chamorro | 66 | 78 | 75 | 72 | 76 | 74 | Marquez | 67 | 79 | 70 | 69 | 77 | 79 | Warbasse | 70 | 78 | 75 | 75 | 73 | 65 | Garby | 65 | 79 | 70 | 71 | 76 | 70 | Ndayisenga | 66 | 78 | 75 | 69 | 68 | 73 | Atapuma | 66 | 78 | 73 | 71 | 72 | 73 | Kuss | 68 | 78 | 71 | 74 | 76 | 69 | Lunke | 69 | 78 | 72 | 76 | 74 | 64 | Saggiorato | 68 | 77 | 73 | 72 | 74 | 72 | Ratiy | 66 | 80 | 70 | 70 | 73 | 58 |
Pinot has been in great form this season and starts almost any mountainous stage race as the favourite. But he faces some stern competition from the Sauber duo, Frankiny and Ranaweera. The former is more explosive, with the latter matching Pinot on the longer climbs. Keinath has been a consistent performer and doesn't have any weakness in his skills. Chamorro doesn't like the flat, if he keeps his head out of the wind, then he's a match for anyone when the road turns uphill. Marquez could benefit from a hard tempo on the climbs to use his high resistance. The other riders on the list also split between the punchy and more diesel climbers. But which style will prevail?
| RES | ACC | PRL | Keough | 73 | 79 | 80 | Jiang | 73 | 75 | 79 | Hamza | 73 | 68 | 79 | Dumoulin | 76 | 67 | 78 | Sterbini | 73 | 67 | 78 | Cruz | 72 | 70 | 78 | Li | 68 | 75 | 78 | Gretsch | 70 | 68 | 78 | Oram | 72 | 70 | 77 | Scully | 70 | 80 | 77 |
A lot of the prologue specialists have made the trip here from San Luis. We have a wide array of contenders here, but given the organisers decided this prologue is only 2.2 km long. So don't be surprised if we see some left field results here. All things being equal the top favourites should be Keough, Jiang and Hamza.
| FLA | RES | REC | SPR | ACC | Carsi | 70 | 69 | 73 | 80 | 82 | Wippert | 70 | 70 | 80 | 78 | 82 | Selig | 71 | 68 | 76 | 79 | 81 | Coutinho | 72 | 74 | 77 | 79 | 80 | Scully | 74 | 70 | 78 | 79 | 80 | Salleh | 70 | 65 | 77 | 80 | 80 | Keough | 73 | 73 | 73 | 79 | 79 | Kragh Andersen | 77 | 74 | 78 | 81 | 77 | Krieger | 71 | 74 | 75 | 79 | 79 | Bennett | 71 | 68 | 80 | 79 | 79 | Van der Sanden | 73 | 69 | 77 | 78 | 79 | Lavoine | 73 | 64 | 77 | 80 | 78 | Bouhanni | 74 | 69 | 74 | 80 | 77 |
As mentioned before, some of the best CT sprinters are here to compete in the 4 flat stages. Carsi comes here as the rider with the best combination of top speed and acceleration. His other stats aren't too shabby either. Wippert matches his kick and might be the favourite for stages 4 and 6 that follow a mountain stage due to his excellent recovery. Selig has had a solid if not spectacular season so far and has a nice balanced set of stats. Coutinho has been better, but would probably like to see more wins to his name. Scully's form has picked up over the last few races, the Kiwi will especially target stage 2 in hopes of taking the leader's jersey. Salleh has been Trans's main man this season and has proved he can compete with some of the best with his great speed.
Keough like Scully will be looking to score big in the prologue and the following sprint stage. Kragh Andersen has had an up and down season, can he find some consistency over 7 days here in Malaysia? Krieger has quietly put together quite a few good results this year, he shouldn't be forgotten about. Bennett will hope his great recovery plays a factor in this race. Van der Sanden really hasn't performed the way Philips envisioned, can he redeem himself in this strong field of sprinters? Lavoine and Bouhanni are both sprinters that will be relying on their good top speed to score a good result.

Think this might be one of the only races where we only have Warbasse and Eg, no Fabbro. Can't expect too much from a pure climber's race, but we'll shoot our shot for GC as best we can. Have to score as much as possible.
Hopefully we can get into some breakaways on the flat days.
Thanks for the preview!

I hope that Ndayisenga can continue his run of good form and maybe attack the Top 5, but as always, a Top 10 overall will also be considered a success. Really hope that Selig can do something in the sprints without Reinhardt here. We bring Redecker along with him again which hasn't necessarily worked out, we'll see. Have fun everyone, and thanks for the preview!

Really hoping that our climbers will finally have another good race, after the last couple of stage races were really bad. Pernsteiner takes a domestique role here after he completely failed as a team leader in San Luis.
For the rest, it's perfect playground for Scully. I don't really have much hope for the prologue, though, as those short distances often yield purely random results. Wouldn't even be surprised if Merino Criado got our best result here...
The Spaniard is the only leadout we send here, while putting the main focus on the GC results. We can't send much more better climbers, so these guys should show what they have.
Thanks for the preview, red - I hope Scully continues doing great things in your reports

No mentions of our sprinters? We need to prove you wrong here!
Good luck everybody

The perfect McCormick races with only prologue, flat and mountain stages, the 3 terrains where we have a prayer. Hopefully Keough eats his Wheaties before the prologue, but at that distance another 17th can't be ruled out. Can live with that if he at least shows up for the sprints. Kuss ranks 11th so will hope he can over-preform a little and get a top 10.

As with all Keinath stage races, the expectation is of a Top 5 and the hope is to climb onto the podium. No Bardet to pull for him in this race, so it'll be interesting to see how he goes on his own. Not much expectations from Dumoulin and Van der Sanden given how their seasons have been going so far. It's all on Keinath and maybe Inkelaar for some minor U25 points.
Thanks for the preview

Cruz to win prologue, Bennett to win all the sprint stages and Brandt to finish in top ten. You heard it here first

Great preview, thanks! My sprinters are not on the list and are definitely underdogs, but if one of them has a good day they might surprise on a stage, no expectations though.
Marquez has been around that top-5 in most races he entered so far. The preview puts him right below this time, so let's hope he overperforms a little. I think the hill stat shouldn't be too important in Langkawi, which suits him more of course.
Sterbini could be decent in the prologue, but then again a 72 prologue rider might just win it as well
Good luck everyone

So we are here with zero mountain support for Garby so not sure how that will go. Big support for Wippert in the sprints though so hopefully a stage win can come from that. Should be an exciting race!
Good luck everyone !

Our home race sees the dynamic duo racing together to try to overthrow Pinot like they did in Pico Basile. Hopefully their combined might will be enough to bring home the GC win and possibly a top 5 to go with it.

Kind of a pointless prologue maybe, and the randomness is always a factor. But honestly, this wasn't too bad as far as randomness goes. The winner at least was the best rider for the profile.
Sucks to get the short end of the +2 second jumble for our prologue specialist Kragh Andersen, but at least we got a stage point, and hopefully he'll be able to protect Warbasse well on the flats. Warbasse himself lost a few more seconds than he should have here, hopefully it's not a sign of things to come.
Congrats to Keough on a deserved win! Interested to see how he'll sprint tomorrow.

Think these results are quite allright, with sprinters clearly having a big advantage over the others. Then of course the best prologue´ists among the sprinters up top. Congratulations to Ulrich! Thanks redordead for the report

Well that was better and also marks the first stage win for McCormick that wasn't a sprint. So nice work Keough and I will take a win and a 17th over two 9ths any day.
Conventional wisdom says he will sprint very late tomorrow or not at all, which I am inclined to believe. But a stage win in hand is better than a sprint in the bush.
Hopefully he can puts some points on the board and keep himself in the green jersey battle. If I am being greedy I am a little disappointed that sprinters with vastly inferior PRL values came so close thereby limiting our green jersey gains.
Thanks for the report and torturing me with all those sprinters coming so close towards the end.

Really happy I was proved wrong here. Scully taking 2nd place is great, behind Keough as the deserved winner (congrats!). This should put him in a good position both for taking yellow tomorrow, and for the green jersey battle.
I wasn't THAT wrong about Merino Criado either, though - as he finished ahead of Mäder, who is a measly 12 points stronger in PRL... Good to see that the results aren't that unrealisitc for once, though.
Thanks for the report, redordead, and congrats again to McCormick!

Disappointed to get no one in the break, but we still end up with a surprise 2nd place without even having a sprinter!
In all seriousness, it was obviously pleasant to see AKA actually decide to position himself and then sprint. He seemed to go pretty early, so I was worried he would fall off dramatically, but for once playing to his resistance and top end actually worked. He gets pipped, but the way this season goes, I'll take second every single day of the week.
No Bertilsson in this race, and I can't help but wonder if that's the difference maker between the game treating AKA as a sprinter or as an idiot. If so, I'm screwed for the rest of the year, cause I think I sent a full train to the rest of his races. But hey, no reason to think about that now.
In any case, Carrefour can do no wrong these days, another win for them. Congrats! Hopefulyl Larry and Niklas are ready for tomorrow.

Well, nice to see a sprint train from a roleplaying perspective, not so great when you end up in 4th Although to be fair, looking at the start list that's actually within reason, so maybe yay for the sprint train to ensure it? I don't know. Very much looking forward to tomorrow as well! And thanks for the report

Horrible stage. One to forget. Onto the next.
Congrats to Carrefour again - well, let's just say congrats for the remaining stages and the GC, so that's done.
