Welcome to only the 2nd edition of the Frankfurt Eschborn one day classic. Going from C1 status last year it has moved to C2 for this year. It is categorised as a flat race, but it's anything but that if you take a look at the profile. There are plenty of hills and even mountains spread across the parcour. And not only that, you also have to take into account the total distance. This race is 218.8 km long, so not just climbing and sprinting. Endurance and resistance will also play a role.
With that said let's look at some of the favourites:
| FLA | MON | HIL | STA | RES | SPR | ACC | Â Coutinho | 72 | 63 | 65 | 75 | 74 | 79 | 80 |
Lionel Coutinho is the most well rounded sprinter here. He has good climbing ability compared to the other sprinters here and there a few you could argue, that have the same sprinting ability. We will see if the consistency in his skill set brings Guave's the result.
| FLA | MON | HIL | STA | RES | SPR | ACC | Â Reinhardt | 71 | 57 | 67 | 73 | 66 | 79 | 84 | Â Wippert | 70 | 56 | 67 | 75 | 70 | 78 | 82 | Â Korosec | 71 | 68 | 75 | 74 | 71 | 75 | 78 | Â Krieger | 71 | 58 | 62 | 71 | 74 | 79 | 79 | Â Modolo | 73 | 60 | 72 | 73 | 70 | 77 | 79 | Â Habtom | 75 | 53 | 61 | 75 | 75 | 77 | 78 | Â Sbaragli | 76 | 56 | 66 | 76 | 70 | 77 | 78 | Â Van der Sanden | 73 | 60 | 65 | 71 | 69 | 78 | 79 | Â Naesen | 75 | 57 | 72 | 77 | 73 | 77 | 76 |
Tier II features sprinters with some differing stat combination. We start of with  Reinhardt and  Wippert are both similar in that their flat stat is average at best and both much prefer shorter hills. So it will be key for them as many others on how they handle all that elevation. Beware if they reach the finish in good nick, as they're the two fastest finishers in the race.  Korosec is more of sprinter-puncheur "hybrid". He's the best climber out of the bunch, so he'll be hoping for a tough race, but Trans have other options. So how will they play it? Krieger is your standard solid sprinter. He'll be hoping to offset his weak points with a bit more resistance.
Then we have  Modolo who is the typical hilly sprinter. He's another one that would be hoping for a reduced sprint, but climbing for a longer duration is also not his strong suit. Similar to Trans's team  Habtom is one of many Bralirwa's options. Normally in a leadout role the harder race might suit him better and the exact same can be said for  Sbaragli. Conversely  Van der Sanden should be Philips's main man here.  Naesen is another strong allrounder, who already has a win in a CT flat classic this season.
| FLA | MON | HIL | STA | RES | SPR | ACC | Â Mezgec | 71 | 61 | 67 | 73 | 70 | 79 | 77 | Â Stocker | 75 | 60 | 65 | 71 | 73 | 76 | 77 | Â Bouhanni | 74 | 55 | 63 | 74 | 69 | 80 | 77 | Â Selig | 71 | 53 | 65 | 73 | 68 | 79 | 81 | Â Altanzul | 72 | 65 | 69 | 68 | 73 | 78 | 75 | Â Lavoine | 73 | 60 | 60 | 71 | 64 | 80 | 78 | Â Colbrelli | 74 | 56 | 61 | 74 | 72 | 79 | 75 | Â Tsatevich | 74 | 62 | 77 | 74 | 73 | 75 | 75 |
Mezgec is Trans's 3rd option, or he could be their 1st option as the best sprinter out of the three.  Stocker is a very good leadout rider, but also a better climber than Reinhardt.  Bouhanni and  Selig are in the same boat as Mezgec, the best sprinters on their teams, but can they reach the finish?  Altanzul is a very good climber and a good insurance policy if Wippert fails.  Lavoine is actually an okay climber for a sprinter, but will his low resistance come back to haunt him.  Colbrelli is another option for Strava.  Tsatevich will look to take over for Carrefour, if Lavoine is up to the task.
| FLA | MON | HIL | STA | RES | SPR | ACC | Â Thiery | 72 | 70 | 74 | 73 | 73 | 72 | 73 | Â Saggiorato | 68 | 77 | 73 | 72 | 74 | 58 | 72 | Â Kuznetsov | 76 | 63 | 70 | 75 | 73 | 72 | 75 | Â Manfredi | 69 | 78 | 65 | 68 | 73 | 62 | 73 | Â Hardy | 70 | 75 | 73 | 73 | 68 | 69 | 70 | Â McCutcheon | 69 | 72 | 72 | 74 | 73 | 53 | 73 | Â Caruso | 67 | 68 | 77 | 75 | 70 | 69 | 76 | Â Katrasnik | 81 | 61 | 63 | 72 | 76 | 63 | 72 |
Due to the amount of climbing this is not a typical rouleur list, but almost more of a climbers list. We have three Centovalli riders here in  Thiery,  Saggiorato and  Manfredi, but will they be allowed to leave Reinhardt behind? The same could be said for  Kuznetsov,  Hardy and  Caruso, On the other hand  McCutcheon and  Katrasnik don't have a leader to look after. The latter especially has the pedigree of breakaway successes, but will the climbs prove too much for him?

At least next year I won't be so stupid to send riders like Manarelli to C1 sprinting races instead of races like these. I guess I was afraid of the German mountains

As this is one of two of my top 5 goals for this season and probably one of the strongest teams that I sent to the races I hope we will be lucky and managed to finish in the top 5
Thanks for a great preview redordead

Tough to predict how we'll do here with VDS not very suited to this course. We haven't done well in 'flat' races so far, so we don't have too high hopes for this one.
Nice to see former riders Wippert and Korosec high up on the favourites' list.
Thanks for the preview redordead

Decided to forego this race since neither AKA nor Bertilsson are any good at climbing. I guess we'll see how much that climbing ends up mattering.

Hoping with some hilly guys like Caruso and Tsatevich alongside Lavoine, that we'll be able to compete no matter how this race finishes. Excited to see how this goes down |

Think a chaotic sprint or late escape here and figured Keough would not be competitive. Hoping Frankovic can hang at the front and get a good result but not optimistic.

We just reached another top 5 goal with Luka Mezgec's 4th place!
I was really worried about this race.
Thanks for the report redordead

Nice to see 3 of my former riders doing well here.
1-5-7 even though 1 and 7 weren`t with the main team.
From a German point of view obviously Selig, Krieger, Reinhardt would have been a nice home winner, that said, Wippert is a rider consistently on a high level but rarely with a win, in especially in a classic, similar to Coutinho actually.
Not sure if I remember correct, but he might as well have won a GT stage back in his Vesuvio days? |

After the disappointment that was the Tour du Faso, what a great way to get our second goal of the season! Selig with his second podium in a classic this year and great to see us working and showing our colors all day. Weird one from Redecker in the end, but likely helped catch the late escapees and even got a handful of points in the end. Great day all around. Congrats to Wippert and thanks for the nice report!

Probably a planning mistake not sending Boev here but I'm not complaining too much about the result with 4 riders scoring points. That wraps a decent month for us.
Congrats on the win to jakstar and Wippert Thanks for the report redordead!

Turns out the climbs weren't really consequential, so we maybe could have competed here. Still, I can't regret passing up on any sprint race days this year.
Fun report, congrats to Jakstar!

I guess on one hand we should be happy about our best race this month PpRD-wise.
On the other hand, Reinhardt clearly showed with his strong late push that he did have the legs to win here, so it's really disappointing to see that the team didn't even try to work for him. It's the same line-up that has already built up great sprint trains earlier this year, and they should definitely have been capable of doing so here as well.
But well, I saw that Reinhardt wasn't considered to be our leader (I guess it was Saggiorato? In-game startlists would really be handy for this), which probably is the main reason for their passive behaviour. At least Mundle and Saggiorato add some more points, so for what could have been another random "flat" race I think we got a decent amount of points. All in all, it's time to finish off with this month, though.
Congrats to BNZ for the win, and thanks for the report to readordead!

Awesome, super happy with that 2nd place out of Lavoine. Was more nervous for a flat sprint type finish rather than a hilly one but I guess it worked out.
also congrats to Jak and BNZ! |

Needed more and better riders in the break for the hills to have an impact and create the kind of messy finish we wanted. But at least we were in the breakaway.
Congrats to BNZ.

Yewww!!! Weber with a huge lead out was the deciding factor I think but Wippert with the strong effort to finish it off!!! Stoked to get the win!!
Great report and congrats to everyone else for a great race

Good nitiative by the team, too bad that Bouhanni was not up to the sprint. Gratz to the winner and thanks for the report
