The Age of U23 Superstars

Obviously I'm not noticing anything new here. I'm sure most of you are aware by now. We are living in an era the past few years where age is no longer a barrier to top results in cycling. One doesn't have to make their way up the ranks through their early-mid 20's. Rather, they can jump in as a twenty year old and win a GT.

Just look at Evenepoel, Pogocar, Bernal. Even lesser guys like Hirschi, Higuita and Sivakov. All U23, and all scoring big. Not big for talents, but legitimately winning GT's and monuments. The list obviously extends further if we consider how prevalent guys are at the top who are 23-25.

What do you guys think the cause of this is? It just seems like such a dramatic departure from what we're used to in cycling, where riders usually peaked in the late 20's. Is it just a really strange coincidence?

Professionalization in youth teams, perhaps less dope, and maybe much more competitive racing? When looking at football or other sports, cycling fits the trend However while they burn early and fast they may fade out all the quicker.
