Transfagarasan GP Preview
Welcome to the first edition of the Battle Royale up a Romanian mountain! No two ways about, this race will test the raw climbing mettle of everyone involved. The very best climbers from the Continental division have turned up to try to become the first ever winner of this race.
| MON | RES | ACC | Intxausti | 81 | 77 | 69 | Eastman | 81 | 75 | 69 | Pinot | 80 | 79 | 69 | Ratiy | 80 | 73 | 58 | Valls | 79 | 77 | 72 | Kiserlovski | 79 | 74 | 65 | Medvedev | 78 | 77 | 72 | Panayotov | 78 | 76 | 72 | Faiers | 78 | 75 | 73 | Giogieri | 78 | 74 | 67 | Stetina | 78 | 74 | 65 | Manfredi | 78 | 73 | 73 | Diaz | 78 | 73 | 68 | Signorini | 78 | 72 | 74 | Nibali | 78 | 71 | 53 | Campero | 78 | 70 | 71 |
The two best climbers in the division, Intxausti and Eastman, are expected to go head-to-head and toe-to-toe for the win and stamp their authority as the best climber of the division.
Pinot is surely best of the rest, but that might a little disrespectful to the French superstar, as he is equally capable of winning the race.
Ratiy is a strong climber, but his support stats leave a little to be desired in terms of being a favourite for the win.
Valls and Kiserlovski are the other leading contenders for a podium finish, with the former having strong support stats to punch above his weight.
Medvedev, Panayatov and Faiers are strong Top 5 contenders, and even could be podium contenders, if things fall their way on the day.
Among the others, Manfredi and Signorini have an acceleration advantage to the other favourites, but they are more likely to be Top 10 or at best Top 5 contenders.
Stetina, Diaz and Campero are more likely to be super-domestiques for their respective team leaders, and not be able to ride this race for their own result.

One of the few races where Eastman has met Intxausti. Will have to see how the team support plays out as it seems we should have the upper hand there with 4 other very solid climbers to help Eastman out. Not sure how this race will play though as the climb is very long and doesn't look very steep. Actually worried that Pinot might be the favorite here because that extra few points of resistance may be more valuable.

Easy win for Intxausti. Not even sure why preview was needed, its a foregone conclusion

Cort Nielsen in for a tough one here, but as he is shown on several occassions so far, he is more than capable of performing above expectations. Aiming for at least the Top 15 here. |

Well, Eastman well and truly responded to Holloway's win in IJsselmeer there! Congrats Kent, and thanks for the report Abhi

Lack of activity is clear admission of a rigjob. Not much I can do when its one team against a coalition of 15

Cort Nielsen continues to outperform expectations for him, not even appearing in the preview, but still making it to 6th. The Dane has consistently got Top 10s this season. Congratulations to Kentaurus on that victory, simply riding everyone else to breaking point. Thanks for the report Abishek. |

Thanks for the report, seems like Faiers made his move slightly too early but I'll happily take a 3rd! Also Eastman is just a monster the fact that he is only on 280k this year is just insane, and I expect him to be a lot more expensive next year.

Eastman was able to have support up a vast majority of that climb. Which may have been the biggest difference in the end. Having 3 support riders finish ahead of the 2nd best DK rider likely means that Inxausti was isolated fairly early while Eastman was paced by his own teammates until the elite 7 riders broke away.
Thanks for the report, out unbelievably strong season continues. Eastman is now done with his season, pending the result of Tour of Bulgaria which I don't think has ever been covered yet.

No clue why we sent one of our weaker climbers in the breakaway, but that's not something to really complain about. The Top 10 by Manfredi is what we could realistically expect, so that's a really good result. What I'm less happy with is the team depth not paying out; having 5 riders in the Top 50 is good, but not quite good enough if there's only points for the Top 25... But well, we take anything we can get
Thanks for the report, and congrats to yet another win by Azteca... Time to get the season to an end, so we'll finally get rid of Beastman & Co.

The big guns on show and Eastman shows his might! 4th place is a disappointment for Thibualt but still a nice run on points for the team.
Well done Azteca on another win
