Grands Prix Cyclistes
The latest stop on the C2HC calendar is in Canada, for the Grands Prix Cyclistes. Two hilly stages await the top puncheurs in the division, although the profiles may not prove difficult enough to force major selection - in which case the hilly sprinters will fancy their chances.
The Puncheurs
| HIL | MO | STA | RES | SP | ACC | Edmondson | 79 | 69 | 75 | 72 | 70 | 76 | Bystrom | 79 | 68 | 75 | 72 | 68 | 76 | Chaves | 79 | 76 | 74 | 73 | 60 | 72 | Costa | 79 | 70 | 71 | 70 | 68 | 70 | Siskevicius | 78 | 73 | 73 | 72 | 71 | 75 | Roux | 78 | 65 | 78 | 71 | 57 | 75 | Mehr-Wenige | 78 | 66 | 74 | 69 | 66 | 67 | Hoelgaard | 77 | 74 | 72 | 72 | 68 | 74 | Villella | 77 | 65 | 72 | 74 | 65 | 80 | Zingle | 77 | 69 | 74 | 69 | 66 | 76 | Teklit | 77 | 70 | 75 | 72 | 64 | 70 | Hategeka | 77 | 72 | 74 | 69 | 62 | 66 | Diggle | 77 | 65 | 74 | 70 | 64 | 70 | Pellaud | 77 | 65 | 74 | 68 | 65 | 70 | Besada | 77 | 63 | 74 | 74 | 56 | 77 | Lejman | 77 | 65 | 72 | 64 | 59 | 68 |
Edmondson, Chaves and Costa have all tasted success in the past couple of months, and they headline the startlist here alongside Bystrom. Hoelgaard is another who has tasted success in recent times and will fancy his chances, while Siskevicius is one to watch if the stages come down to reduced group sprints.
The Punchy Sprinters
| HIL | MO | STA | RES | SP | ACC | McEvoy | 76 | 64 | 75 | 70 | 75 | 79 | Weiss | 76 | 63 | 75 | 70 | 73 | 74 | Navardauskas | 75 | 60 | 74 | 74 | 75 | 70 | Pozdnyakov | 73 | 67 | 72 | 71 | 75 | 74 | Geschke | 73 | 64 | 73 | 68 | 75 | 74 |
Should we get a race decided by bonus seconds, then a number of riders will look to upset the top puncheurs. McEvoy, Weiss and Navardauskas will fancy their chances even if things are more selective, while Pozdnyakov and Geschke will hope for a slower pace and a large group coming to the finish together.

Need a big performance here from Costa and/or McEvoy. Costa always there for the more selective finish although it would be nice for McEvoy to put in a big performance here!

Time for Siskevicius to redeem himself for gods sake. All the tours have been complete busts so far

Goal race for us, aiming for top 5, which is going to be quite a big ask considering my luck in the hills this season. Thanks for the preview!

That's really some tough competition here - as had to be expected. Even though Pellaud is listed among the best puncheurs, we know by now that our biggest hopes are on Freuler and Thièry. If climbing should have an impact, they might be in the fight for a Top 10, but given how unpredictable hilly races are this season, I'll happily take any points.

Pellaud
Finally a race really suited for pure puncheurs like him, and this 4th place is really, really great! However, I'm afraid he'll be dropped rather early tomorrow, so it's good to know that both Thièry and Freuler made it with the second group - a good GC result seems to be within reach.
Thanks for the report, jph!

Tough startlist, but solid for Chaves on day one of this, need to make things happen in day two though to really get something out of this race for the team.

Ah so close for Roux to repeating his stage win here from two years ago - hopefully tomorrow he can redeem himself and grab the GC win he couldn't in 2017...
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Yeah, Pellaud finally proves that he's worth his money! 9th in the GC is absolutely fine, I couldn't expect more from him on this second stage.
I'm really disappointed by Freuler and Thièry, though. They had a great situation, being in the 2nd group yesterday - but they didn't even try to do something today. Stocker was our 2nd best finisher on stage 2 - that's definitely once again some PCM logic I don't understand.
But well, we got some more points, and I think it was a pretty good month for us, getting more than 10 points per race day in all of our races. Now, let's relax for a few days and watch Tour de l'Avenir
Thanks for the reports once again, jph - tremendous work!

A bit meh from the team... Nice ride from Cuming on stage 1 but nothing on stage 2 and we drop out of the GC Top 10.
Well done Tryg on the GC win
