Question about train

Hello fellow managers
My question is about train or protect main raider
What's better to form a train up a mountain top finish or to run on protect raider all the way up
Is there also a deference in a 4 man train if main raider is 2 or 3 or 4 in train thank

Usually protecting and using the pacing is the best way to go through the mountain stages, train can get some spikes in effort that spend extra. Usually I do mountain trains only when it's obvious that I have a strong team and there won't be riders swarming in my train.
