Tour de San Luis
Welcome to Argentina for one of the biggest events on the C2 calendar! The Tour de San Luis is a race with an illustrious history, with previous winners including Man-Game legends such as Alejandro Valverde, David Zabriskie and Rein Taaramae. While there are no names of that calibre on the startlist this year, the last three winners of the race have all made the trip here once again - Travis Meyer (2018), Anthony Roux (2017), and Rui Costa (2016).
With a short prologue and a 20km TT on Stage 5, this isn't simply a race for the puncheurs. Instead, those riders who have a more varied skillset are the favourites - such as the previously mentioned Costa, as well as the likes of Navardauskas, Bazhkou, Craddock and Zoidl. That hasn't prevented a large number of puncheurs and TTers making the trip though, in pursuit of stage wins - and a good GC result depending upon how the race is ridden.
| HIL | TT | PRL | MO | STA | RES | ACC | Meyer | 79 | 69 | 69 | 69 | 74 | 71 | 77 | Edmondson | 79 | 64 | 64 | 69 | 75 | 72 | 76 | Costa | 79 | 75 | 75 | 70 | 71 | 70 | 70 | Bystrom | 79 | 61 | 61 | 68 | 75 | 72 | 76 | Chaves | 79 | 68 | 68 | 76 | 74 | 73 | 72 | Siskevicius | 78 | 65 | 65 | 73 | 73 | 72 | 75 | Mehr-Wenige | 78 | 63 | 63 | 66 | 74 | 69 | 67 | Roux | 78 | 62 | 62 | 65 | 78 | 71 | 75 | Hoelgaard | 77 | 65 | 65 | 74 | 72 | 72 | 74 | Zingle | 77 | 68 | 68 | 69 | 74 | 69 | 76 | Pellaud | 77 | 66 | 66 | 65 | 74 | 68 | 70 | Villella | 77 | 61 | 61 | 65 | 72 | 74 | 80 | Diggle | 77 | 70 | 70 | 65 | 74 | 70 | 70 | Teklit | 77 | 64 | 64 | 70 | 75 | 72 | 70 | Squire | 77 | 65 | 65 | 77 | 70 | 70 | 71 | Venter | 77 | 60 | 60 | 74 | 72 | 74 | 66 | Besada | 77 | 54 | 54 | 63 | 74 | 74 | 77 |
As well as former winners Meyer and Costa, Edmondson and Bystrom headline the pure puncheurs here. However, better climbers such as Chaves and teammate Squire should do well on the longer climbs, and Zingle and Diggle are potentially ones to watch with relatively good TT stats.
| HIL | TT | PRL | MO | STA | RES | ACC | Robert | 60 | 79 | 79 | 57 | 66 | 70 | 55 | Hofer | 65 | 78 | 78 | 58 | 74 | 72 | 68 | Sterobo | 63 | 78 | 78 | 71 | 74 | 69 | 73 | Reus | 72 | 77 | 77 | 69 | 73 | 76 | 59 | Downey | 67 | 77 | 77 | 63 | 71 | 73 | 72 | Rekita | 61 | 77 | 76 | 56 | 68 | 71 | 69 | Kovalev | 55 | 77 | 77 | 53 | 60 | 59 | 73 | Navardauskas | 75 | 76 | 77 | 60 | 74 | 74 | 70 | Bazhkou | 75 | 76 | 76 | 69 | 73 | 75 | 64 | Craddock | 74 | 76 | 76 | 72 | 75 | 75 | 68 | Zoidl | 74 | 76 | 72 | 75 | 71 | 68 | 69 | Rajapakshage | 70 | 76 | 78 | 64 | 71 | 72 | 69 | Van Niekerk | 66 | 76 | 75 | 61 | 72 | 73 | 67 | Christensen | 63 | 76 | 76 | 59 | 65 | 72 | 63 |
Robert is the strongest TTer in the field, but will undoubtedly struggle on the climbs. Instead, look to all rounders such as Reus, Navardauskas, Bazhkou, Craddock and Zoidl to shine.
| PRL | TT | RES | Keough | 80 | 58 | 73 | Gunman | 77 | 70 | 68 | Schomber | 77 | 70 | 72 | Dzervus | 76 | 71 | 72 |
While unlikely to make an impact in the longer TT, this quartet will have eyes on winning Stage 1 and taking the Yellow Jersey - with Keough the strongest Prologue Rider in the field.
| SP | ACC | FL | STA | RES | PRL | Guillen | 81 | 82 | 67 | 66 | 62 | 56 | Keough | 79 | 79 | 73 | 67 | 73 | 80 | Castaneda | 79 | 77 | 70 | 69 | 65 | 72 | Lay | 79 | 81 | 73 | 68 | 66 | 70 | Bennett | 79 | 79 | 71 | 74 | 68 | 57 | Docker | 78 | 75 | 71 | 67 | 69 | 71 | Porsev | 78 | 78 | 73 | 67 | 64 | 68 | Sobota | 78 | 78 | 72 | 74 | 65 | 67 | Angarita | 78 | 77 | 72 | 71 | 65 | 65 | Jones | 78 | 78 | 72 | 66 | 65 | 65 |
Guillen is clearly the fastest man in the field, but his all-round weakness otherwise may hold him back. Keough, Castaneda, Lay and Docker will all try to take advantage of being good prologue riders and aim to take the lead with bonus seconds on Stage 2.

Porsev a relatively strong sprinter in this field, so I can only hope that he can achieve something. Also an OK'ish prologue stat could see him potentially fight for GC positions in the beginning of the race.
With all stages being 100% hill I can't wait to see what Konovalovas can potentially do here. Obviously he isn't in the favorite pool, but 74/73 is a decent stat combo. Otherwise maybe Yemane with his stellar FIG stat can get something here

Hoping for a lot of activity from the amateur team here! We even have a decent sprinter, so hopefully we're not anonymous.

Guillén for the sprints, Pellaud, Freuler and Thièry for the hills. Whereas Pellaud (77/65) is the one mentioned in the preview, Freuler (75/72) and Thièry (74/70) would probably be better suited puncheurs for PCM 18. In a CT/PCT field, all they could do was breakaway attempts (even a successul one by Freuler), so let's see if in a CT/Amateur field any of them can get an OK-ish GC result.
But the main hope for good stage result clearly is on Guillén, with him already having a win this year and Stocker having provided great leadout support in various other races. Fingers crossed!

Long TT means we wont win this race (prolly) but I expect to be top 3 scoring team in here at minimum. Maybe Reus can finally do something, or will Hofer score 50+ again?

My weakest squad of the season so far i think, taking a 5 point's here would be a huge success. When things settle after 1-2 stages we need to be in everyone of those breaks.
Costa I guess. Keough with at least one stage.
All stages........FAKE NEWS

A long awaited race for our amateur squad and I'm happy to see Docker with an actual chance in the sprints (on paper)! He's within those guys, who could potentially sprint to an upsetting result. Probably will disappear eventually, but here's hope
Othman would need a good form to be in the mix for a Top-15/20 in the GC, so I would rather hope for him and Gate to go for breakaways.
Thanks for the preview! Two highlight races for me with the TdF held at the same time.

Obviously some big expectations here, Keough is the man for stage one, need him to shine, then sustain his success on the flat stages. As for the hills, we clearly know by now there is no such thing as 100% hill in PCM18, so really hoping that the MO skills of both Chaves and Squire really come through on stage 3 (maybe) and more importantly stage 6.
The TT will hurt us, so need to get time in on those two stages.

Here for stage results more than for GC, the TTs really do not allign well with our roster sadly.

Our sole C2 outing coming back to the place of one of Xero's greatest races in 2017. Hopefully we can do better than last year but still not sure with Bazhkou this season, he really hasn't been great. Obviously the hugely exciting thing is the prospect of Schomber gaining his first ever career yellow or at least white jersey on Stage 1 Our friends at Netia could ruin it for us with Rekita though
Roux also returning here could be awesome if he can replicate his 2017 form - slightly tougher field as we've seen so far this season but he can still do it, even though I fear Netia don't have that sexy support that we did to make it happen

Tough day to not be on top form for Keough, but it should make tomorrow important as race leadership will be available if he can win the stage, before we get to the hills on day 3.

Not unhappy with the result, especially by Pellaud (8" down). Guillén clearly saved a lot of energy today, meaning he definitely won't take the yellow jersey tomorrow. Well, if he wins the stage, I don't really care.

Dissapointed by Stan and Morne quite a bit, but Nils Schomber with his first great career moment taking the white jersey, proving the haters wrong Shame he couldn't quite nab the win but for a Level 3 guy it's pretty nice already.

Gunman had a good start! Edmondson with a shocking prologue though. 27 seconds is going to be hard to bring back against such strong puncheurs. Hopefully he has a better ITT in a few days and can get away on the hills in the coming days!
