Heistse Pijl
Good afternoon cycling fans! And especially if you are a fan of cobbled races. Because then you might have some mixed feelings about today and tomorrow, as you're now reading the preview of the final cobbles of the season.
New to the CT calendar, the Heistse Pijl is a rather uncommon semi-cobbled circuit race. Though if you have extremely good eyes, you can see that the profile isn't entirely flat: There's a max 7,2% 700 meter climb in its circuit! Its effects are obviously up for debate however, just like the effects of the cobbled section, but some more abilities than sprinting will be needed to win the race.
| COB | SP | ACC | HIL | | COB | SP | ACC | HIL | Ferreira | 79 | 71 | 69 | 68 | Grand | 77 | 65 | 65 | 65 | Machado | 79 | 62 | 61 | 63 | Gaudin | 77 | 57 | 71 | 68 | Jacobs | 78 | 65 | 63 | 64 | Domene | 76 | 74 | 75 | 57 | Taubel | 78 | 61 | 64 | 65 | Joseph | 76 | 66 | 70 | 66 | Zhupa | 77 | 74 | 68 | 67 | Matthews | 75 | 76 | 76 | 66 | Drucker | 77 | 74 | 75 | 65 | Breschel | 75 | 75 | 70 | 68 | Breen | 77 | 73 | 72 | 70 | Veelers | 75 | 73 | 72 | 61 | Kulppi | 77 | 65 | 70 | 67 | Van der Haar | 75 | 72 | 70 | 72 |
The unpredictablity of this race also makes it hard to decide what stats need to be focused on to create a list of favourites. So we'll just sort by cobbles first. Starting off with the best cobblers, there isn't a single rider who totally fits the bill. Ferreira, Machado, Jacobs and Taubel all aren't the best at climbing and sprinting. Drucker, Zhupa and Breen however do: They are great cobblers, can get over the hills decently well and are able to fish off a race. They are certainly riders to follow!
A bit lower down this list, we can find Kulpp, Grand and Gaudin missing a decent sprint and Domene who might be a bit tired from the climbs. After that a number of allrounders once again: Matthews, Breschel, Veelers and – especially – Lars van der Haar!
| SP | ACC | COB | HIL | | SP | ACC | COB | HIL | Guillén | 81 | 82 | 61 | 61 | | | | | | Manninen | 80 | 80 | 58 | 66 | McLay | 77 | 76 | 72 | 67 | Salleh | 80 | 80 | 58 | 59 | Giaux | 77 | 75 | 71 | 67 | Keukeleire | 80 | 79 | 71 | 70 | Gatto | 77 | 70 | 71 | 73 | Mezgec | 79 | 77 | 58 | 67 | Matthews | 76 | 76 | 75 | 66 | Ranneries | 78 | 82 | 61 | 56 | Zanotti | 75 | 75 | 68 | 67 | Korzh | 78 | 80 | 62 | 59 | Breschel | 75 | 70 | 75 | 68 | Brus | 78 | 78 | 64 | 64 | Frankovic | 74 | 76 | 67 | 71 |
Then it's time to look at the sprinters. Guillén is the best one, but will have a hard time being fresh at the final kilometers. Manninen and Salleh are the second and third best sprinters, though may get weakened by the cobbles as well. The fourth name is undoubtedly the best one on paper, Jens Keukeleire who knows how to survive a hill and has enough to keep up with the cobbles if they go ham on the cobbles. It'd be epic for him to win in his home country!
The second tier sprinters who also have a nice stat combination are on the right. Especially Breschel, Giaux and Matthews seem to have to capablities to upset, though victory should be a stretch.

Oh, didn't remember we subscrived for this race
We brought our B-team here, as the rest is riding ToA, but we have some hopes in Breschel to make a good race, he doesnn't have any support at all though so we would be very happy with a top 10. Thank you for the well written preview, Vien, looking forward to the race! |

Would be great if this C2 race would make the different for us, it's one of the few "hills" I've actually done IRL.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Even though we have Korzh here, I'd definitely prefer if we made this a hard race that Breen and Van der Haar can contest. Kluge would have been the big, big favorite once again, so nice to see that's he's not on the startlist

I feel like we've got options for all outcomes again, though that probably means we will still get a bad result as doing that hasn't exactly worked out for us so far this season.

Interesting to see how selective this race will be. I have a good eye to Drucker, Breen and Matthews.

So I suppose the plan is for De Maar to go full 2015 and just attack and destroy everyone whenever he feels like it.

stealing some points in a C2 race with Gaudin or Giaux would be absolutely huge here. Hopefully a top 10 is reachable despite some of the flaws with both of those riders |

Hopefully either Kulppi or Manninen will be part of final. Not huge expectations though.

Would have liked to have done slightly better with either Zhupa or Guillen, but some solid scoring nonetheless.
Thanks for the report Vien

Wow, what a great way to show the amateur colors, Tewelde! I guess a couple of those amateur riders will have an easy time finding a new team towards the upcoming season
New CT managers (and current ones of course) should definately be looking at a couple!
Should I start to worry about my lead?

Good performance from Korzh. Had hoped for a more selective race, but I'll take 3rd.
Thanks for the report!

Great ride from Manninen here. Assume Kulppi had his share of the glory making sure Manninen got over the cobbles in good condition.

Frustrating race for us today. Really wanted to see Giaux or Gaudin up there unfortunately. Thanks for the report Vien! |

I'm more than happy with a top 5 here as we never seem to do that well in classics.
