Grands Prix Cyclistes
History
Year | Winner | Team | 2017 | Arthur Vichot | Kulczyk - DMTEX | 2016 | Tomohiro Kinoshita | Meiji - JR East | 2015 | Wilco Kelderman | Team Puma - SAP |
Welcome to the fourth edition of Grands Prix Cyclistes. In 2015 the two Canadian races, Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec and Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal, were merged into a combined two-day event. This year Québec City hosts the first leg, and the second and last leg is in Montréal the next day. Vichot won last year's edition and is defending his title. Kinoshita and Kelderman are the two other winners in the new format, but both are not eligible to participate in this C2HC rated classic.
Profiles
Both stages are hilly, but are somewhat different in parcours. Québec has shorter but steeper climbs, and an uphill finish. Montréal has longer climb, but a flat finish.
Startlist
Favourites | Hl | Acc | Sp | Outsiders | Hl | Acc | Sp | Di Maggio | 82 | 75 | 65 | Vichot | 76 | 80 | 66 | Gautier | 80 | 77 | 68 | Kadri | 76 | 78 | 74 | Zaini | 80 | 70 | 65 | Hugentobler | 76 | 76 | 56 | Meyer | 79 | 77 | 72 | Othman | 76 | 76 | 54 | Ben Nasser | 79 | 77 | 70 | Weiss | 76 | 74 | 73 | Edmondson | 78 | 76 | 70 | Pibernik | 76 | 74 | 68 | Serry | 78 | 69 | 62 | Haas | 76 | 73 | 68 | Hoelgaard | 77 | 74 | 68 | Kebede | 76 | 72 | 60 | Teklit | 77 | 70 | 64 | Wahyudi | 76 | 67 | 58 | Hategeka | 77 | 66 | 62 | Ziesler | 76 | 65 | 69 | Skjerping | 77 | 65 | 58 | Favilli | 75 | 74 | 76 | Mendes | 77 | 64 | 67 | Geschke | 74 | 76 | 76 |
Di Maggio is ranked as main favorite for the race. The Italian might be the biggest name in the race, and has a very good team behind him with riders like Serry and Skjerping.
Another possible name for the highest step on the podium is Gautier. Valio is currently leading the CT division and is set for another nice collection of points here. Zaini is the team leader for Compal.
Meyer has already won two stage races this season (Slovenie, San Luis) and is looking to add this race to his hattrick of CT races by this reporter. There is no time trial though, but that shouldn't deter him. Another contender for a podium is Edmondson.
Ben Nasser has a history in Canada. He won the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal back in 2012, and finished on the podium of the combined version twice (2015, 2016). Vichot though has the best record, winning the Montréal leg and the overall GC last year.
The Montréal finish might be more suited to a punchy sprinter. Riders like Favilli and Geschke have likely set their eye to this stage.

Back racing after a while, not our terrain really, but maybe we can grab some minor GC points

This is a goal race for us, so hopefully we can land a couple of good performances. Both stages suit Kadri, Vichot and Favilli well (which Vichot's win here last year is a testament of), so we should have every chance of landing a podium here if the race develops in our favour!

Wow that was as good as it could get for us. Pibernik in with a chance for the white jersey, Mezgec with probably the ride of the day, didn't expect him that high. Othman gives us a 3rd man in the top 10
Now I hope it doesn't all fall apart in stage 2

That was some rather good outing for the Swisslion squad. Now let's hope they can keep it up!

Shame Kadri and Vichot was positioned so poorly into the final kilometer, as it otherwise could have been a great stage for us, seeing how the raced developed. Relying on a great performance in Montreal to achieve our top 10 goal, then. Need one of them to step up a bit.

Why couldn’t this race have been selective last year? Nice to see the CT going again, and Afoa trying to join the break!
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Better than we expected. A top 10 and and a top 20 overall is pretty good. Pibernik taking the white jersey was the cherry on top
Thanks for the great reports

Thanks for the good reports!
Have to admit that missing the podium is disappointing, but at least we get the points jersey to compensate a bit.

Much, much better stage for us! Love that Kadri has these kind of performances in his locker That's another goal wrapped up, then.
