Qualifying starts tonight so as good a time as any to start a thread.
COME ON ENGLAND (seeing as there is no England flag available)

Belgium can already (mostly) confirm the group it will be in, due to the many home countries and political reasons.
1) Belgium
2) Russia
3) Denmark
4) Finland
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Is it just me or will either Kosovo, Georgia, Macedonia or Belarus be able to qualify for the competition due to their play-off path? |

Yes. I reckon Kosovo will qualify from League D.

This playoff BS is useless - I'd rather have playoff between the best 3rd placed teams than having teams like Bulgaria, Belarus or Israel try to qualify only to get mauled in the tournament. Of the 16 teams that "qualified" only one of the 3rd placed teams failed to advance - Greece. Instead, Bosnia and Herzegovina - the 4th placed team in the Greece's group, will get another chance by virtue of winning its League of Nations group.
This qualification method is stupid and I wish UEFA NEVER doing it again. Have the LoN as a separate thing to determine the pecking order for the qualifying and nothing else - no qualifying berths.

I like this new system. It actually gives the likes of Kosovo and Belarus a chance of qualifying for a major tournament. Just think what positive effect that could have on a tiny country.

Very disturbing scenes happened on the Denmark - Finand match in Copenhagen when in the 40th minute Christian Erikssen suddenly collapsed on the touchline. Medical staff for minutes tenderd to him with players from both sides were clearly disturbed from this. From recent information Erikssen is concious and UEFA have just confirmed that he is in hospital, but honestly I don't think that this match will be finished, nor the Belgium - Russia match will be played.
Disclaimer: I've put this post in this thread as I want to separate the general discussion from the prediction game

Eriksen is stable and left the stadium conscious. Some reports say he even facetimed his teammates from the hospital so that was a good sign. Don’t think the game would have started if he wasn’t feeling better - within what’s possible. Just wish him a good recovery and that this event was just a bad episode. Nonetheless, I don’t think the players were on a decent mental state to play the second half, at least the Danish team…

On a less serious note, interesting reading this two years later two days before Scotland’s first match. |

I know. Wait 23 years to qualify for a tournament and get lobbed from the halfway line Yeah, I had forgot about the back door for these Euro's. Scotland did well to qualify, but now I think they are out of their depth. Needed to beat the Czechs to have any realistic chance of going through the group. Cant see them picking up 4 points from England and Croatia after losing at home to the weakest team in the group.
So far I've been impressed by Italy. None of the other major teams have blown me away, but Portugal, France and Germany all play tonight so maybe one of them will impress me.
As for England I'm pleased that we finally look like we know what we are doing. Southgate seems to be picking players to do a specific job and the whole team seems to know their role. In the past we just picked the best 11 players and hoped the likes of Gerrard, Lampard, Beckham or Rooney would do something so we won. Now we seem to have a plan and players are being picked on their ability to play to that plan. For the first time I'm confident we will beat the teams we should be beating, and even against the bigger teams we will give then a good game. I don't think we will win the tournament, but I think we will only get knocked out by one of the top handful of teams.

Agreed. Turkey have been very disappointing which has made the group stage fairly comfortable for Italy, especially playing at home.
If they win the group they will face the winners of Group F in the QF. That will most likely be France or Portugal, so that will be the first true test for them. That QF could well decide the favourite to win overall going forward.

Portugal coached by Fernando Santos is not a test for any decent team, either our players forget his tactics and turn on automatic pilot mode or we are bound to suffer a massacre if they strictly follow the man’s conservative and yet badly organized ideas.
I mean, our main resources are luck, prayers and perhaps the alignment of all the saints of the world. |

I guess you won't be expecting Portugal to pick up the point they need to qualify tomorrow then
To be fair, they should have gone out at the group stage last time and won it. Maybe this will be Karma balancing itself out.
As long as you don't get hammered 3-0 or something you should qualify with 3 points AGAIN. So maybe all the saints are realigning for you again.

This is what happens when lady luck is not with Fernando Santos.
I also endorse Denmark’s underdog bid to lift the cup. |

Nah, They've only beaten very poor Russia and Wales teams. They have a good chance of getting passed the Czechs in the next round, but I reckon (most likely) Germany will beat them in the semi's.
Can't really see passed the French for the overall win.
