Welcome to the third stage of Tour de Suisse, a 33-km TTT between Nyon and Morges. Big stage for the GC, as some of the top GC contenders have great TTT teams behind him, and others don’t. The main favourites for the stage should be UBS, Gazelle and Tinkoff, with Amador, UBS rider, with a great chance of getting the race lead
First time to start is Berg Cycles, doing a time of 42’16
RBC would lose a lot of time in the final kms, as they would only cross the line with 3 riders and had to wait for two more to come. His time was 11 seconds slower than Berg’s
Festina doesn’t have a good TTT, and it’s shown by making the worst time so far, one minute worse than RBC (so 1’11 to Berg)
Hugo Boss is way way worse, losing 2’09 to Berg Cycles, and even beating overtaken by the next team to start
And that team was Grieg, a team that set the fastest time, beating Berg by 26 seconds!
Great damage limitation by Air France and Quintana, as they only lose 9 seconds to Grieg’s time
Solid time by Isostar, 24 seconds behind Grieg
Aegon sets a new fastest time, something that will help a lot Dekker in his GC quest. They are 16 seconds faster than Grieg
Tinkoff was one of the favourites before the stage, and they didn’t disappoint, as the Russian squad improves Aegon’s time by 7 seconds
Moser does the 7th best time, 51 seconds slower than Tinkoff
And then comes the real favourites for the win today, UBS. And of course, they beat Tinkoff and everyone else, doing a time of 41’18 (15 seconds better than Tinkoff), a time that should give the race lead to Amador, but obviously other teams are yet to come
Second best time for Gazelle, losing 14 seconds to UBS
Porto and Machado will lose 32 seconds to UBS and Amador, after setting the fifth best time
Desigual lost too much time in the late part of the stage, and even his GC leader Nibali got dropped in the final km, losing some extra time
Really good time for Aker, as they only lose 27 seconds to UBS, which is great news for Guldhammer
T-Mobile didn’t send a great team here, as they are all resting to be in perfect shape for TDF, so they end up losing 1’05 to the leading team
Probably due to having to take care of Meintjes, but this Yorkshire performance is nowhere close to what they usually do in PCT races, losing 49 seconds and being only 10th best so far
Dombrowski saves the day losing only 42 seconds, as eBuddy clearly relied a lot on Howson today to avoid any major loses for his GC leader
Terrible time for Ayubowan, as they lose 1’38 and probably any big GC hopes they had with Monsalve after his great stage yesterday
Surprise! Evonik has beaten three times in a TTT! They lose 1’32 to UBS
Volvo gets the sixth place with a time 29 seconds worse than UBS’s
Really solid effort by Puma riders, as they managed to lose only 27 seconds to UBS, which still keeps Herklotz in the race, despite his time loss yesterday
The race leader jersey gives you some extra power, that’s what they say. And probably that power went to the whole Vesuvio squad, as losing just 19 seconds to UBS will make Schleck not to lose the jersey to Amador, though Morton and Bennelong are still yet to cross the line
Not the TTT Bennelong was hoping for, as they end up eighth best, 29 seconds behind the stage winners
UBS takes the stage win, delivering as top favourite. But surely they had hoped for bigger gap, so their leader Andrey Amador would have won more time on the rest of favourites
Surprisingly, Andy Schleck stays as race leader after the TTT by just 1 second. This is a huge step ahead for the Vesuvio rider in order to get another GC win in Suisse
