Praha - Karlovy Vary - Praha - Stage 4
Aquarius97
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PT/Praha/Praha-4-000.jpg

Final stage of the race and while it’s rated flat and a sprint is expected, not everyone will be able to stay in the bunch until the end. A really bumpy stages, where also KoM jersey will be decided, as only today there are points in offer. In the first flat stage Maxime Daniel surprised the sprinter’s teams from the breakaway, so today they should be more attentive to breakaway attempts and how is in there. Taylor Phinney will only have to cruise home today to get third win in three years since this race become a TT-focused stage race

And the bunch allows 7 riders to go in the breakaway, a risk remembering what happened two days ago. Also, we have a windy day again, with winds over 40 km/h

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ssc.png Boonratanathanakorn wins the first KoM of the day, ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_mos.png Mosca, and takes the first 10 points

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ssc.png Boonratanathanakorn wins the last Cat.2 climb of the day, again ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_mos.png Mosca, who is his only rival for the KoM win now

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ssc.png Boonratanathanakorn confirms his KoM jersey win by being first in yet another climb, and again ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_mos.png Mosca, who will be second in this classification. Still 50 kms to go and the gap is over 4 minutes. It’s going to be close again

Cat.3 KoM

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PT/Praha/Praha-4-004.jpg

And in the final climb, surprise, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ssc.png Boonratanathanakorn wins again ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_mos.png Mosca and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_gzl.png Fejes. The breakaway has a 3’30 lead with 35 kms to go, though some of the riders here, like pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ebd.png Roosen, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_bgc.png Balloni or pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_grg.png Korsath are very tired and almost got dropped of the group

Cat.3 KoM

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PT/Praha/Praha-4-005.jpg

But the breakaway didn’t have in mind factor pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_evo.png Stoltz. The Luxemborgian rider reduced the gap to only 1’10 in just 10 kms, almost securing a sprint finish today, if the bunch doesn’t mess it again

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PT/Praha/Praha-4-006.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_grg.png Korsaeth gets dropped from the breakaway with 20 kms to go, while the gap has rised to 1’25. Some riders are getting dropped from the bunch, but no one important for the GC results

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PT/Praha/Praha-4-007.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_gzl.png Fejes is the next one to get dropped in the breakaway. They still have a 1’25 gap with 14 kms to go. The ghosts of stage 2 are coming back to the peloton, where pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_hug.png Ligthart (Top50 in GC) has been dropped

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PT/Praha/Praha-4-008.jpg

10 kms to go and Evonik is going to catch the breakaway sooner than later, given that now they only have 40 seconds of advantage, and they seem pretty tired

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PT/Praha/Praha-4-009.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_mos.png Mosca tried it but he run out of energy with 5 kms to go, which effectively concludes the participation of the breakaway in today’s stage, and we’ll get ready for a sprint finish in Praha

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PT/Praha/Praha-4-010.jpg

Just 3,5 kms left, and Hugo Boss and Volvo are being dominant with their 3-men trains for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_hug.png Kristoff and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_vlv.png Ahlstrand. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_afr.png Kennaugh was smart enough to pick Kristoff, as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_fes.png Tzortzakis did too. It also seems like Evonik is now a little disorganised, with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_evo.png Van Stayen losing the wheel of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_evo.png Dzamastagic and being a bit behind everyone else

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PT/Praha/Praha-4-011.jpg

Hugo Boss has clearly won the battle for the best leadout today, and from nowhere, Evonik has appeared in the front with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_evo.png Dzamastagic and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_evo.png Van Stayen, almost boxing pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_afr.png Kennaugh between both trains. Volvo’s train is struggling and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_vlv.png Ahlstrand (and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_aeg.png Groenewegen who was on his wheel) are way behind now. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_mos.png Croket has been a great lead-out for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_eav.png Afewerki, but he should be reminded for which team he’s riding this year

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PT/Praha/Praha-4-012.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_evo.png Van Avermaet is sprinting from nowhere to be leading with 1 km to go, while also Volvo’s train has progressed to the front, with a great leadout of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_vlv.png Bertilsson for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_vlv.png Ahlstrand. Now it’s Hugo Boss the struggling train, which could affect everyone else, who were just following them. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_evo.png Van Stayen has moved closer to the fences trying to catch Van Avermaet but the Belgian was too quick for being a good leadout now

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PT/Praha/Praha-4-013.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_vlv.png Ahlstrand is going strong in the center of the road, as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_evo.png Van Avermaet starts to fade and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_evo.png Van Stayen hasn’t been able to sprint properly yet. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_aeg.png Groenewegen is the right side of the road, but he seems to lack a bit of speed to challenge for the win today. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_des.png Zabel and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_bnm.png Howard are trying to follow Van Stayen close to the left fences, while behind the first riders it’s everyone sprinting on his own, like pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_afr.png Kennaugh, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_prp.png Avelino, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_eav.png Afewerki, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ubs.png Reinhardt, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_fes.png Tzortzakis, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_akm.png Enger, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_hug.png Kristoff or pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_bgc.png Silvestre

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PT/Praha/Praha-4-014.jpg

Just 200 metres to go, and a slight downhill from here to the finish, so positions might not chance a lot. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_vlv.png Ahlstrand is in the lead and looks set for a win today. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_evo.png Van Stayen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_prp.png Avelino are fighting for the second place behind the Volvo rider, with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_afr.png Kennaugh, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_des.png Zabel, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_aeg.png Groenewegen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_hug.png Kristoff in the fight for fourth place

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PT/Praha/Praha-4-015.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_vlv.png Jonas Ahlstrand wins in Praha the final stage of Praha - Karlovy Vary - Praha! Volvo worked a lot today for this, and Bertilsson made a great leadout for him.

Van Stayen can only be second again, as the other day. Two second places will feel not good enough for him, but his team can’t be unhappy with how the race went for them.

Third place for Avelino, who despite not being the most regular sprinter, sometimes he delivers good results like this one

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PT/Praha/Praha-4-016.jpg

And it’s Zabel the one who wins the battle for 4th place, ahead of Kristoff, Kennaugh, Afewerki and Tzortzakis, with Groenewegen and Howard rounding up the Top10 of the stage

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PT/Praha/Praha-4-017.jpg

Ahlstrand goes to the podium as stage winner. A very welcomed win for him, as a big part of Volvo non relegation plans go through him

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PT/Praha/Praha-4-018.jpg

Taylor Phinney is the winner of 2018 Praha - Karlovy Vary - Praha. Now a three times winner of the race, the RBC star has started his season winning, like he usually does.

Panagiotis Vlatos is finally off Coppel’s shadow in Festina, and has delivered a nice second place in this race, ahead of Vesuvio leader Marcel Kittel, who keeps getting great results in TTs.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PT/Praha/Praha-4-019.jpg

Maxime Daniel wins the Points jersey by just 3 points over Van Stayen. Had the Belgian won the stage, and he would also have won the jersey

Boonrathanakit wins KoM jersey after a dominant day over the climbs today

Cataford adds more success to RBC, as he wins the U25 jersey, same as the team wins the Teams standings
