Opening stage of 2018 Paris-Nice, and it’s a very short prologue, with only 3 kms. No standout favourite for the win today, and with such a short route, plenty of races that could run away with the win and the yellow jersey today
Yoann Paillot is almost the first rider to start today, but surely the first favourite for the stage win. We don’t have references yet to compare his time, but it’s 3’49
Next big riders is Dennis Van Winden, who does the same time as Paillot, but it’s misses out on the provisional lead because of tenths
Surprising good time for Aydar Zakarin, who puts a time only 2 seconds slower than Paillot’s
And another Berg rider that ties the fastest time, but this time Silvestre can only be third best, behind his team-mate Van Winden and Paillot
A great time for Kruijswijk, who is only 3 seconds behind the best time, and sitting in 5th place
And another rider in the same time as Paillot! It’s Vorobev, the Russian champion, whose time is only enough to be fourth
Vassdål can’t reach the line fast enough to be with the four best riders so far, but his 3’50 time is enough for a Top5 at the moment
Machado, one of the race favourites, starts the race losing 6 seconds to Van Winden’s time
Another big favourite in Damien Howson. And ofc, same time as all the big favourites so far, 3’49, but unluckily for him, the worst in what matters next, the tenths. So only 5th place so far
Chun Wing Leung! What a beast! He was one of the favourites for the win today, but still he has destroyed everyone elses time by 6 seconds!!
Another big surprise with Ivars, who sets the second best time, 5 seconds behind Leung
Wow Giulio Ciccone! Second place for the young Italian rider, who did a time only 4 seconds worse than Leung’s!
And Andersen can't beat Ciccone by miliseconds, and has to settle for the provisional third place behind the young Italian rider
Sütterlin as another stage favourite, falls short of Leung’s time, but his time is good enough to put him in second place of the stage, 3 seconds behind the Asian rider
Alexey Lutsenko, the reigning champion of the race, is here thanks to a wildcard given to his new team, Reddit, though the route doesn’t suit the Kazakh at all this year. His time is 16 seconds slower than Leung
Porto’s riders are all over the place, as Rafael Reis gets to set the fifth best time in the day, just 4 seconds behind Leung
It’s always ironic to see a Evonik rider setting the third best time in a TT given their hate for the discipline, but that’s what Stoltz has just done, with the same time as Sutterlin
Amador, as one of the race favourites, just loses a few seconds, seven, to the leader Leung
Tenorio must have hoped to use this prologue to put some time on rivals for GC, but he also gained one second to Amador, and 9 to Morton
Let’s see what can Andy Schleck do in this prologue. The Luxemborgian legend has end up losing 12 seconds to Leung, and just 6 seconds to Tenorio and 5 to Amador
The World Champion Robert Gesink is the penultimate rider to start his race. And he does justice to the jersey he wears, but Leung seems unbeatable, as he’s just two seconds slower, setting the 2nd best time
And the last rider is Rein Taaramae, the big favourite for the GC win, but he only sets a time that is the same as Amador
So this means that Chun Wing Leung wins the prologue and becomes the first leader of 2018 Paris-Nice!
