Don't know if it's only my game or a general thing, but the AI always starts a early breakaway a couple of seconds after take off. It's always a couple of riders, and 95% of the time they get caught up right before the end.
Second anoying thing is that never the AI breaks away during the race.
You have this early breakaway of like 8 riders and when we near the finish (ca. 50km) the pack starts to speed up and catches them.
All my games end up like this: Early breakaway, pack takes it easy, speeds up near the end, breakaway gets caught. Getting very boring.
Does the same happens to you guys or is it just me?
Is there a mod available that changes the gameplay? |

So do people really buy this game, while never have watched a cycling race? |

In real cycling races not EVERY breakaway group is caught at the end. Most of them, yes. All of them, no. |

OP said 95% of the time, not every single time. They do stay away sometimes.
I think most fans kind of think breakaways staying away are more common place then they are due to people tending to mainly watch the Grand Tours. When breakaways do stay away far more often as there are often far more reasons to let it stay away. In one day races and shorter stage races its far less common for a breakaway win (or at least, certainly a breakaway from the start of the day.)
I would agree that there isn't enough breaks later in stages though. IE; I dont remember any situation where a team sent guys into a break early and then attacked into them later in a stage (IE; Movistar on ever mountain stage ever) |

Hmm to be honest I've had quite some hilly and mountain stages where halfway through the race riders try to attack towards an existing breakaway.
Also, riders attack quite often on second-to-final climbs/hills.
Like Flair said though, this was in grand tours. One day races are different. |

During one day races, of course theyre gonna be caught vast majority of time, especially on the flat. I see a lot more breakaway wins in tours |

Yeah it is how it works. During flat stages most of the time there is a early break away which gets caught around 15km. During coble stones its different, yes an early breakaway which gets caught pretty early. Around 50km the favorites start to attack.
During tours (I just did the vuelta catalunya) two times a breakaway succeeded with a difference of around 7-10 min on the pack. Ofc these riders dont affect the top 10. |

i simulated the TdF lately and Tiesj Benoot won the Tour with 2 Breakaways. One flat stage with 13 min advantage to the Peloton and then the last stage in Paris. Solo Breakaway with 8 minutes advantage.
I only get these strange results while simulating.

Simulating is strange. One of the simulated Milano - San Remo of my Pro Cyclist Career had basically a result where most of the field where in the same time. In the end, I think only a handful of riders lost time. It was really frustrating because the result was so unrealistic. |

Lol, thats weird. I just posted it in career discussion topic. But just won my first breakaway with eventually a 8 min lead.... |

Until PCM18 getting Pro Cycling mode breakaway advancement points were easy. Unless you're a favorite to win the race it was easy to breakaway and stay away. Usually you're caught before the end, but you get your advancement bonuses. With PCM18 the game got a lot smarter. It's more like real life - riders try to break away in the beginning, but it's a fight and one has to be smart about which breaks to join. And breaks get hunted down at crucial points in races. Watching races on TV makes breakaways seem routine, but they don't show the many attempts to get in an early break that fail - they talk about it, but don't show it. PCM18 requires you to develop skills about getting and staying in breakaways and is much better.

I find breakaways to be quite realistic in the game. Good variety. Sometime early break gets away and stays away. Sometimes break is not able to form until half way through the race. |

I'm in my third season now, haven't seen a single breakaway group that wasn't caught in the end. I basically don't bother trying attacks or anything like that anymore. Just go x8 until the end of the stage, then do the part that matters. |

I've had 3 stages in the back end of my latest Giro where the break picked up the win.
One time basically teh whole break stayed away and the other two days were MTFs where the top 2 were in the break and stayed away till the end.
Now granted, all 3 of those breaks where like 30-40 rider affairs. Pretty sure I had a 6 man break win the day back in one of the pre giro stage races though.. Italizia or something.
EDIT: Oh and granted I've not been a part of any of those breaks either. To be honest, I'm thinking that alot of it may be the way people play if they find they never have breaks wins.
Either your not in in, and chase too hard so it doesn't win because you don't let it. Or, for people getting into breaks, your either a) pushing too hard so that the break weakens too early or b) not pushing enough and therefore the break doesnt stay. I think every break I have seen win has had multiple guys from the same team in. |

thats weird very weird. i played 4 quick Seasons just to know if there are gamebreacking Bugs. And I can say a lot of breakaways are working mostly in Grand Tours
Be fair to everyone and have a good life.

Especally in Grand Tours it's not even possible to break away, because the peloton will go at 99 as soon as one of the player's riders tries to attack. And it doesn't matter if that rider is 1h behind the yellow jersey or not. |
