Meiji have gone for a bit of a different look this year, dropping its well known colours and adopting green as its main complimentary colour along with black as the primary colour.

Heading into the transfer window we have 22 riders, but by the end of the window the team will definitely look different. Several of our bigger name riders are available for a transfer, so we hope to hear from our fellow managers in the coming days.

Immediately when looking at our team, the name the jumps out is  Tomohiro Kinoshita. He will look to redeem himself after a rather subpar season for his standars last season, and hope to be in his 2016 season form which saw Tomohiro win the PCT individual standings. Kinoshita should have the ability to finish in the Top 10 atleast, with TvG and EBH both leaving the division again, however there are always capable challengers and Lutsenko could be the biggest thorn in Kinoshita's side this year.
New addition to the team  Ki Ho Choi will look to lead the team in many stage races, and unlike Kinoshita he is not expected to finish in the PCT top 10, however we will hope for some good results, and consistency. The same can be said for  Chen Shikai who will also be the team leader in mountainous races. Choi and Shikai will often be able to ride together and either ride for themselves or support the other if a valuable GC position needs to be defended.
Kenji Itami is our 3rd oldest rider at 30 years old, and has been on the team since our first season. He is again our top sprinter going into this season, and should be a capable sprinter, atleast on stages with little to no hills.
Kazushige Kuboki is our final leader. Kuboki has proven to be a very good points scorer in stage races that start with a prologue, and have lumpy stages. Kuboki can also be a great super domestique, and will also be very important for any Team Time Trial events.
The rest of our team is filled with lots of great depth and 10 riders that are still unmaxed, plus two stagiares who we think can be apart of the team in the future.
Overall we hope to finish safely in the PCT, but we also think we can challenge for promotion if everything goes well!

Love your team! Hopefully the Shikai & Choi combo works out better than the Shikai & Ji from the season prior; Choi is a much better rider and I think they'll both score well if they can avoid the big Moldovan
Will be good to see Kinoshita back to his best, too. Last year's EBH & TVG freakshow is over thankfully and Kinoshita is back to being the top dog alongside Lutsenko in PCT. I also never realised he was so young, I wonder if you'll ever have the intention to train him?
Top-10 should be pretty much expected, and looking at the rest of the division promotion looks to definitely be possible.

Let's face it - we're going to annoy each other a lot this season. But apart from Kinoshita you got a really strong team, too. I'd take Shikai & Choi over one climbing goat all day, and Itami has victory potential as well, as long as he avoids the bigger PCT sprinters. As Eden said, anything but top 10 should surprise me a lot.
Looking forward to your calendar. You had an extra race day to play with and different PTHC bands, which means we could avoid each other more than it looks at first sight. I certainly wouldn't mind

@ Eden - Thanks, I hope that it will. Choi should be stronger than Ji but it will be hard to beat Pluchkin. I would have liked to train Kinoshita this season, but I couldn't afford it (or else I couldn't have acquired Choi) but I think the difference between 81->82 wouldve been less than adding Choi, and training Kinoshita would have meant higher wage for sure, and one of our current leaders would likely have to leave. In terms of salary cap, promoting would definitely alleviate most of our problems
@ vien - Thanks, I agree Itami has win potential, just cant expect it much as he sometimes cant get over the hills first.
Hopefully we dont meet too much on the hilly races

I have to say I really like your team.
Solid regional options pretty much everywhere except perhaps cobbles, but they are strong enough to be able to make a breakaway upset.

Thanks, Im very happy to be able to roster a fully Asian squad, and hopefully be one of the stronger teams in the division as well.
Saya Kuroeda will be half decent when maxed and Shiki is pretty versatile atleast. In the future that may be something we need to address though, but for now Im happy with them.

It has been a long and tumultuous season for the Japanese outfit, and the team currently see themselves near the bottom of the PCT rankings. The main backers sponsorship deal runs out at the end of the season and while there is a chance they could renew, Meiji have been rumored to be looking for their next endeavor for a few seasons now. Team manager 321 Valverde is confident the team will not end the season in the relegation zone, despite concern from fans but admits the season has been a disappointment thus far, and with the previous 2 seasons both being so close to promotion spots battling for relegation is a new and confusing feeling.
With the uncertainty in the air, it will be difficult for the Japanese team, who roster a fully Asian squad to remain intact if a new sponsor were to come in. The identity of the team would be lost. Team manager 321 Valverde says that even if the team folds, or brings in a new sponsor, the goal that was set in place when the team first started has been reached! "My goal as manager of the team, was to build a competitive team from Asia in order to promote and develop Asian cycling! In my time as manager, we saw the emergence of several great cycling prospects who have gone on to be top end riders! We have also seen several other Asian teams formed, which highlights the growth that has occurred for Asian cycling. When we first started the top Asian riders only wanted to ride for us! Now there are many other teams they can ride for, and many that could ride for international teams better than ourselves. If our team ceases to exist come next season, I have no doubt many of our riders will have no issue finding jobs".

It would be a damn shame to lose you after the season. But with a nationality focus, in terms of results, I guess things can get quite stale. So I guess being more international or leaving altogether is an understandable option. |
