Hilly route for the Swiss Championships, which makes UBS and Sebastien Reichenbach the favourites for the title. The rivals are Pellaud, Wyss and Hugentobler, but the depth of UBS should bring them the title, though nothing is guaranteed.
Pretty boring race until the final lap of the race, where UBS started to set a high pace in the aproximation to the final climb
Daring move by Pellaud seeing like 12 UBS riders in the front of the bunch, including Reichenbach and Frank, the only ones that followed the rider of Goldcorp in his attack
Wyss is leading the way in the yet big group, looking desperate for help but only seeing UBS jerseys around him. In the leading group, Frank was dropped by Pellaud and it also looks like Reichenbach is struggling a bit to follow Pellaud’s pace
Only 2 kms to go and Pellaud is clearly looking the strongest, with Reichenbach suffering a lot to stay on his wheel. Frank is only 15 seconds behind, but it doesn’t look like he’ll make it back, and neither the group behind which includes Wyss, Hollenstein, Hugentobler and several UBS riders
Final km for the leading duo! Pellaud and Reichenbach will sprint for the Swiss NC!
And Simon Pellaud steals the Swiss NC easily from the hands of UBS! What a display of power Goldcorp’s leader showed today!
UBS takes 2-3-4 with Reichenbach, Frank and Schelling, and two further Top10’s, but they’ll leave this race dissapointed for sure
Third place and Bronze medal for the living myth Fabian Cancellara, from Aker - MOT. His time was almost 3 minutes worse than eventual winner’s time, so not a great day for him in what was the final chance he really had at winning this race again
Silver medal for Michael Schar, who ended just over 2 minutes behind the winner, and gives UBS their first medal of the day
And Silvan Dillier shows why he was the main favourite for the title and takes a very confortable win for UBS!
Total dominance by UBS in this timetrial, putting 8 riders in the Top10 and 12 in the Top16
