Deutschland Tour - Stage 1
Aquarius97
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Germany/Germany-01-000.jpg

First stage in Germany, and it’s a flat one between Leer and Syke. The main favourite for the stage win belongs to the local team Kraftwerk; Mark Cavendish. Surprisingly, PT teams have decided to not use their sprinters in this race, despite having four flat stages, so the PCT sprinters will fight for the wins

We have winds of over 40 km/h today, but that hasn’t stopped some riders from joining the breakaway.

There aren’t any KoMs today, only a couple of intermediate sprints, which might allow one of those three riders to be in the GC Top3 at the end of the stage if they can finish in the group after getting caught. It’s pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Roosen who wins the first of the sprint, still more than 100 kms away for the finish

With 20 kms to go there’s another, which is won again by pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Roosen, who will take 12 bonus second of the stage. The gap to the bunch is only 1 minute at this point, with the sprinter teams not wanting to be surprised today

The breakaway is caught with 7 kms to go, and now it’s all about the sprint trains to put the sprinters in the best place to fight for the win

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Germany/Germany-01-004.jpg

Just less than 3 kms left and SPAR and Kraftwerk are forming the two dominant sprint trains as expected. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Houle has been able to pick pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Cavendish’s wheel, but every other sprint is following a strange train made by riders of several teams

Here it's supoused to be a picture showing all the sprint trains, but it turns out that i forgot to take it Embarassed

SPAR is clearly winning the battle of the sprint trains, and now it’s up to pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Guerao to deliver them the win, as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Nepomnyachsniy is already leading him out. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ubs.png Reinhardt couldn’t get perfectly the Spaniard’s wheel, while pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Houle and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Reimer are following Kraftwerk’s train. Everyone else is out of the fight, as there’s even a gap after the German

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Germany/Germany-01-005.jpg

Final km for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Nepomnyachsniy! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Guerao is waiting until the last moment to go against the wind, as there’s a really high head-wind in the straight finish, while pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Cavendish was blocked a bit by pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Haidar Anuawar and has had to sprint from long distance

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Germany/Germany-01-006.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Nepomnyachsniy isn’t showing any kind of weakness with 400 metres to go, despite Guerao having jumped out of his slipstream. It’s also surprising that pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Kreder is looking stronger than pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Cavendish and is charging pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ubs.png Reinhardt for third right now

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Germany/Germany-01-007.jpg

The Spaniard looks like he’s taking the lead with 150 metres left, as the Kazakh finally starts to fade, same as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Kreder

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Germany/Germany-01-008.jpg

And Oscar Guerao takes the opening stage in Germany! Fantastic start for SPAR and the Spanish rider, who keeps winning a lot this season

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Germany/Germany-01-009.jpg

Reinhardt takes second place, while Nepomnyachsniy collapse in the last 30 metres to lose third place to Cavendish, while Reimer finishes fourth ahead of the Kazakh.

The rest of the top10 is filled by Kreder, Houle, Manninen, Silvestre and Maranelli

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Germany/Germany-01-010.jpg

Obviously Guerao is the first leader of the race. And with all riders having finished in the bunch, Roosen, thanks to the bonus seconds in the intermediate sprints, is up to third in GC
