Tour de France - Stage 6

Welcome to the coverage of the sixth stage of the Tour de France. Today on the menu we have another flat stage, with end in Chateauroux after 217 kms, where sprinters will be looking to win today. Yesterday Vanderbiest took the win, and with Swift winning in S1, the pressure is on Van Stayen’s shoulders to finally win today.

Three riders made the BotD today, and it feels not smart for them to be in the move today, as we have there 1st and 2nd in KoM standings, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/jay.png Van der Haar and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/gzl.png Senyenov, in a stage without any KoM points. The third rider is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Bystrom, a very decent puncheur, who tomorrow will have a way much better chance to do something than today

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/GTM/TDF/TDF-06-001.jpg

Still over 100 kms left. The gap of the leading trio is around 8 minutes, and in the bunch Evonik, Wiesenhof, Aegon and Nemiroff are working - not hard yet - to control the difference. Nothing has happened in the previous 100 kms, except for a puncture of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pnd.png Lutsenko

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/GTM/TDF/TDF-06-002.jpg

There wasn’t any fight for the points in the only intermediate sprint of the day, so pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/gzl.png Senyenov crossed the line first as he was the one pulling in the front in that moment. Still 50 kms left, although the gap has been now reduced to less than 3 minutes

Under the 20-km arc, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Bystrom has attacked. The gap with the bunch is only slightly over the minute, and the Norwegian is trying to surprise them going in his own. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/gzl.png Senyenov has been able to follow him, but pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/jay.png Van der Haar has been dropped after that acceleration

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/GTM/TDF/TDF-06-004.jpg

12 km left and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Bystrom has finally been able to get rid of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/gzl.png Senyenov. Somehow, he has been able to increase the gap to the bunch to 1’30. He also has around 35 seconds to the chasing-duo, Senyenov and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/jay.png Van der Haar

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/GTM/TDF/TDF-06-005.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Bystrom is still holding a 50-second gap with 6 km to go. The odds are against him, but he is not showing any signs of slowing down, and if he can keep this rhythm all the way to the finish he really has a chance to win the stage

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/GTM/TDF/TDF-06-006.jpg

Only 3 km left, and while pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Bystrom is still in the front, with a 20-second gap, the sprints train have been forming in the front of the bunch.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Wippert
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/tsa.png Porsev
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrm.png Keukeleire

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Vanderbiest and his train are trying to gain positions as they are right behind pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrm.png Keukeleire, but a top sprinter like pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png Boeckmans is way too far from the action to have anything to do in the sprint

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/GTM/TDF/TDF-06-007.jpg

And pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Bystrom can’t keep the rhythm anymore! He still has 2 km left, so the stage win has slipped off his hands. Anyway, that was an amazing effort by the Spotify rider

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/GTM/TDF/TDF-06-008.jpg

Quite funny situation now, as it’s Spotify lead-out men for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Reimer the one who is actually catching pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Bystrom. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pum.png Demare has been able to place himself in Reimer’s wheel, and it’s been working so far. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Sbaragli is starting to lead-out the sprint for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Swift, while some Aegon riders, after finishing their jobs, looks like they have ¿unintentionally? blocked a bit pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Van Stayen, who have lost the wheel of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Dakteris

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/GTM/TDF/TDF-06-009.jpg

Van Stayen’s team-mates haven’t realised that the Belgian isn’t following them now, and they are doing the leading-out like if pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Van Stayen was in their wheels. A real tragedy for Evonik, as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Van der Sanden has destroyed any chance of a stage win today for them.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Kvist keeps doing an amazing job for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Reimer, who was followed by pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pum.png Demare until the Frenchman has decided to open his sprint close to the fences. In the centre of the road, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Sbaragli is trying to keep pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Swift really well placed ahead of the sprint, while the Brit has pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/tsa.png Porsev all over him

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/GTM/TDF/TDF-06-010.jpg

800 metres left and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/tsa.png Porsev, coming out Swift’s wheel, is leading the sprint now. Both pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pum.png Demare and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Swift are almost at his level, while a surprsing pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Dakteris keeps Evonik’s hopes up. Watch out also for the two PCT sprinters, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ubs.png Reinhardt and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrm.png Keukeleire, who are in Demare’s and Porsev’s slipstreams. Meanwhile, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Van Stayen is trying to be involved in the sprint, with the hope of getting a top5 finish

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/GTM/TDF/TDF-06-011.jpg

With 500 metres to go, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/tsa.png Porsev is still in the lead, although both pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Swift and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pum.png Demare are coming faster. But the real threat coming from behind the leaders is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Van Stayen! Also pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Wippert and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/prp.png Coutinho are way faster than the leaders, but they are a little further back than the Belgian. Despite being blocked by pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Van der Sanden, Van Stayen is back in the stage win fight

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/GTM/TDF/TDF-06-012.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Swift takes the lead with 250 metres left! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/tsa.png Porsev is still in contention for the second place, while pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pum.png Demare seems to be struggling now, as both pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ubs.png Reinhardt and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrm.png Keukeleire are almost passing him. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Van Stayen has defenitely joined the fight, and if he keeps his current speed and avoids further blocks, he can actually win this

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/GTM/TDF/TDF-06-013.jpg

Only 100 metres left, and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Swift looks like he’s going to take his second stage win in the race. As i said before, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Van Stayen only had to avoid blocks, and what he did was to place himself in Swift’s wheel. He’s already fourth now, and is fighting with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/tsa.png Porsev, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrm.png Keukeleire and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pum.png Demare to finish just behind Swift

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/GTM/TDF/TDF-06-014.jpg

Ben Swift wins in Chateauroux!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/GTM/TDF/TDF-06-015.jpg

Van Stayen finally finish second. A really awesome result for him if we remember that under the Flamme Rouge he was completely out of the sprint. Keukeleire finish third, ahead of Porsev and Demare, who both faded in the final metres to lose their stage podium places

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/GTM/TDF/TDF-06-016.jpg

The riders that complete the top10 of the stage are Wippert, Reinhardt, Coutinho, Boeckmans and Reimer

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/GTM/TDF/TDF-06-017.jpg

Rein Taaramae leads the GC by the third day in-a-row. Tomorrow he’ll have his first real test as the GC leader, in a hard hilly stage which ends in Colmar. The four best puncheurs in the race are placed from third to sixth in GC currently, so Taaramae’s lead is in real danger tomorrow
