Probably going to be known as: The Alonso Thread
Fernando had two break failures at the Daytona 24hr race, his debut in the LMP cars. Ultimately the team were way down the order, as almost everything went wrong over the race distance.
And it's confirmed Alonson will be competing fully in the WEC this year and next. That's two starts at Le Mans for sure.
He will miss the Fuji race this season as it clashes with the US Grand Prix, but obviously the 2019 F1 calendar isn't out yet so we can't tell about next year.
IndyCar has been out testing it's new 2018 Aerokit. Damn those cars look sexy! And fast... Can't wait for that season to kick-off in March.
Also their Youtube channel is brilliant, i've watched 5 or 6 classic races over the winter as they keep uploading more older races. Currently they're uploading the 2008 season in pieces, which includes Danica Patricks victory at Motegi.
Well worth looking at as a channel, some great races are there.
We're just a couple of weeks away from the start of the NASCAR season and the Daytona 500. Gonna be backing Kyle Larson, Jamie McMurray, Brad Keslowski, Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney mostly.
Chevrolet with new car this year could be interesting to watch.
WRX kicks off in April, this time with a round in the USA and the UK round moving to Silverstone
The BTCC also begins in April, and that will as always be a completely riot

FIA would be stupid if they keep clashing F1 races with WEC races given that Alonso will be in both categories.
The "bad" thing is that the Fuji/Austin clash won't allow Alonso to actually be WEC champion if his car #8 gets the most points during the season. So depending on how the season goes for McLaren, i wouldn't be surprised if he drops Austin and goes to Fuji. Hopefully he doesn't have to do that, so that means that McLaren has a good car finally

The FIA does try and keep them separate, and for 2019 the early rumors are for no clashes (partly because the WEC is changing how its season runs).
It will be good to see an F1 driver doing non-F1 races, it's been far too long since that happened. A throwback to the good old days when drivers just loved driving.
Alonso has been keen to stress his priority is McLaren (because they're the ones paying him the most) so if they are remotely competitive he'll miss Fuji.
He's not bothered about winning the WEC championship, he just wants to race and win Le Mans and this deal gives him tons of practice and the best chance of making that happen.
He's all about the Triple Crown

I know that what he wants is the Triple Crown, but knowing how competitive he is, i'm sure he wouldn't like to lose a World Championship, even if it's a Endurance one, for losing a race because a clash.
If he only wanted to race Le Mans, he could have gone by "Hulkenberg strategy" of racing only Spa and Le Mans as the third rider of that car, as in the rest of the season with 6-hour races, there's no real need of having 3 riders
I know that Hulkenberg raced in a third car for Porsche in 2015, but that's not allowed anymore

Of course I am hoping that Jimmie Johnson can complete his reign as the greatest NASCAR driver of all time and win his 8th championship.

WRX and DTM News: Mattias Ekstrom quits DTM to focus fully on WRX. And doubles up on that news by announcing Andreas Bakkerud as his #2 at EKS RX.
I'm pumped to see Mattias commit completely to WRX, he's been monsterous in the last two seasons (8 wins, 4 podiums, and a World Championship) and the extra focus will provide a good challenge to last seasons dominant PSRX Volkswagen team of Peter Solberg and Johan Kristoffersson.
Andreas Bakkerud was without a team following Ford and Hoonigan leaving the WRX, giving him a tried and tested and devilshly fast car is brilliant.
With EKS fielding Ekstrom + Bakkerud, PSRX fielding Solberg + Kristofferson and Peugeot-Hansen fielding Loeb + Timmy Hansen the Drivers and Teams Championships will be incredible battles!

Well, the FIA has moved the Fuji WEC Race weekend dates so that Alonso can compete. Good news for Alonso, terrible news for the WEC. It's official, and entire racing series is less important than one driver who has it as a secondary series.... All my respect and growing interest in the WEC is gone.
Imagine if the Tour de France was moved just to allow Sagan to compete, specifically to allow Sagan to compete. Ridiculous. The FIA and WEC look weak and desparate.

That moment when i need to come back(have no time at all, being a cop now. (and being sick all the time)) to correct that bullocks. WEC moved the 3 races, so that their own drivers could make them more easily. then they were just bantering around on twitter.
And there I'm gone again. cya.

So the WEC can't get their own regular drivers to turn up? More than just Alonso? F*ck, the sport really doesn't deserve my interest...

It should be renamed WAC, the World Alonso Championship. |

Thrilling Daytona 500 yesterday. The usual big crashes and big moves. Dramatic finale laps, as always. It's going to be another high octane year for NASCAR.

So you watched that instead of the Olympics and the All-Star game in the NBA?

Olympic events are on at 4am in Pyeongchang?
And i don't like Basketball, let alone an exhibition game with no realy meaning.
So yes, i watched the 500. The biggest event on the NASCAR calendar, a sport i massively enjoy and follow consistently closely.

I didn't watch any of it myself, so i was just curious.
Being Norwegian, the winter olympics is a massive event, considering how good "we" are with skis on our legs.

If you can't win, spin whoever's leading.

Watched both NASCAR & NBA considering they were on at completely different times.
However, don't like to see JJ getting wrecked out, and don't like to see Dillon taking out Almirola at the end. Looking like a year for the young guns this year.

I'd rather not see a spin out like that for the win, but i most enjoy BTCC and WRX which are also fairly relaxed on contact. Let them race, Dillon won't have made many friends and what goes around tends to come around and i reckon things will balance out.

Yes but the folks at the front of the field normally aren't at the front of the field with the exception of the super speedway races. Dillon, Wallace, Buescher from the Top 5 will probably not see another Top 5 for quite awhile.
Getting revenge on someone when you are both in the mid 20's just seems childish so this revenge might take some time. Nevertheless it was a good race and a really good ending. I picked Joey Logano to win the race and he went from being 2nd to a lap down to 5th to a lap down again to finishing in 4th which is a solid day for me. (I play fantasy NASCAR for $42 a year.)
