Circulo de Juarez - Stage 5
Aquarius97
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-05-000.jpg

Final stage of the race and we have the battle for the GC win between Jaime Alberto Castañeda and Mohamed Harrif Salleh. Both riders have won one stage in the race so far and the gap between them is only one second. Basically, whoever finished ahead of the other will win the race.

We have a big group in the breakaway, with 10 riders

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/san.png Trillini
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/0r8.png Ngamoki-Cameron
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/csd.png Jung
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/phc.png Matzka
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/prx.png Meurisse
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/azt.png Marentes
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kul.png Paluta
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wpb.png Connolly
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bcp.png Kasa
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spc.png Daniel

Of them, only Paluta and Matzka have finished all stages in the bunch, as they are 54 and 53 seconds behind Castañeda in GC. What can be even more interesting is the battle for KoM, as 5 riders of this group have at least 6 points in KoM classification. Marentes and Paluta have 8 points, while Jung and Matzka have 6

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-05-001.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/phc.png Matzka wins the first KoM and move into the lead of KoM, although tied with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/azt.png Marentes, both with 11 points

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/phc.png Matzka 11
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/azt.png Marentes 11
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kul.png Laton 10
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kul.png Paluta 8
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/csd.png Jung 6

Matzka also takes 3 bonus seconds in the first intermediate sprint, with Paluta taking two, moving within 50 and 52 seconds off the lead

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-05-002.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/azt.png Marentes is the first in the final KoM, thus winning the KoM jersey for Azteca. Meanwhile, despite being 60 kms away from the finish, In-n-Out is working really hard to bring these rider back to the bunch, as the gap is only 1’30 now. Have in mind that there are winds over 40 km/h

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-05-003.jpg

This insane rhythm had to bring some “victims”, as now with 17 kms to go in the breakaway only pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/azt.png Marentes and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/0r8.png Ngamoki-Camero are in the leading group. In the bunch there’s a bit of relax now, as the domestiques are almost wasted

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-05-004.jpg

It’s the work of cycleYorkshire which leads to catching the remaining riders of the breakaway. Behind the bunch, there’s a group which includes pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kul.png Paluta, who will lose his U25 jersey at the end of the race. And in that group is also pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spr.png Awang, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spr.png Salleh’s main lead-out rider, who was 12th in GC

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-05-005.jpg

With only 3 kms to go, there’s nothing similar to a sprint train, as most of the domestiques don’t have energies left, and some of the sprinters too, as we have recently seen pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wcc.png Castañeda struggling

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-05-006.jpg

Oh, there you have your “sprint train”, which is basically pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ioc.png Kruopis leading-out pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ioc.png Haller with the rest of the sprinters following the German’s wheel, in this order: pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kul.png Bennett, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/san.png Andriato, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/prx.png Brus and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/0r8.png Clarke. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/avc.png Granjel Cabrera is a few places back, while pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wcc.png Castañeda, and especially pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spr.png Salleh are nowhere to be seen, so Castañeda will win the GC, unless he is dropped from the bunch

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-05-007.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kul.png Bennett and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/san.png Andriato are opening their sprint almost from 2 kms to go and with a really strong head-wind. They won’t make it too far in the first places

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-05-008.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/san.png Andriato is under the Flamme Rouge with a small gap to pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ioc.png Haller and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kul.png Bennett. While pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/prx.png Brus, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/0r8.png Clarke and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/phc.png Bogdanovics are following Bennett’s wheel. Also it seems like behind pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/gnr.png Farrar, there’s a clear gap at the moment, and the GC could change due to that gap

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-05-009.jpg

With 400 metres to go pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ioc.png Haller is about to move into the lead, as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/san.png Andriato starts to fade. Everyone else is following each other’s wheel

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-05-010.jpg

Marco Haller wins the final stage of Circulo de Juarez!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-05-011.jpg

Andriato is second, with Bennett taking third ahead of Clarke, Brus and Bogdanovics. Farrar closes the “leading group”

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-05-012.jpg

It looks like Horton might have avoided the time gap for the leading group, but we’ll have to see which is the jury’s decision

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-05-013.jpg

No gaps were awarded, so Jaime Alberto Castañeda is the winner of 2017 Circulo de Juarez, only one second ahead of Marco Haller and Mohamed Harrif Salleh. Andriato is fourth, followed by Bennett, Clarke, Granjel Cabrera, Brus, Farrar and Rowe

At least Haller takes the Points Jersey as a consolation price. Marentes wins KoM, and Laton takes the U25 Jersey from his team-mate
