Circulo de Juarez - Stage 4
Aquarius97
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-04-000.jpg

Only 2 stages left in the race, and the GC battle is still very much open, with 8 riders within 25 seconds - a win - of the lead.

Today it took over over 40 kms to finally see four riders who could consolidate a breakaway

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/csd.png Boudat
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/prx.png Meurisse
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/san.png Gaday
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/0r8.png Onodera

Neither of them finished in the first group yesterday or have been part of a breakaway earlier in the race.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-04-001.jpg

There were again 2 Cat.4 KoM in the stage, which were won by pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/san.png Gaday and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/csd.png Boudat. Although neither of them could do it well in the other KoM sprint, so both Gaday and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/0r8.png Onodera will be tied with 4 riders for the fourth place in KoM with 6 points, while Boudat with 5 points won’t be even in the top8

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-04-003.jpg

Huge crash inside the final 12 kms!!! And we know with certainity that pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/phc.png Krieger, who is 3rd in GC, is one of the riders in the ground!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-04-004.jpg

10 km to go for the four breakaway riders who still 50 seconds on the group

Full list of riders fallen: Krieger, Gatto, Hochmann, Lampier, Vandousselare, Connoly, Vermeuen, Vasilyuk, Quispe, Vaquero, Kruopis, Marentes, Barclay, Sepulveda, Anderson, Selig and Quintero

For some reason the whole Statoil have waited for one of their riders, even if they don’t have a sprinter, while Philips has dropped pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/phc.png Bogdanovics and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/phc.png Scotson to help pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/phc.png Krieger, but they are already 3 minutes behind the pack and it will be impossible to recover that

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-04-005.jpg

Only 5 km left and the breakaway might make it! They have 45 seconds on the bunch, where Sauber is trying to bring them back while also creating a train for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spr.png Salleh

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-04-006.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/san.png Gaday attacks with 3,4 km to go and no one can follow him. He still has over 40 seconds on the bunch and with the slightly downhill until the finish the odds are with him

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-04-007.jpg

The sprint trains have caught both pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/csd.png Boudat and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/0r8.png Onodera, but pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/san.png Gaday still has an important gap to pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/prx.png Meurisse, and more important, to the bunch

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-04-008.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/san.png Gaday looks set to win the stage, as under the Flamme Rouge he still has 37 seconds on the group. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/prx.png Meurisse is in the middle, 20 seconds behind Gaday, and there’s a chance that he is caught before the line

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-04-009.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spr.png Salleh, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/0r8.png Clarke and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wcc.png Castañeda are starting their sprints under the Flamme Rouge, with no one else close to them

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-04-010.jpg

But their reactions is too late, and Julian Gaday takes the win for SanCor!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-04-011.jpg

Castañeda takes second place, beating Meurisse in the last 15 metres, while Salleh and Clarke complete the top5.

The rest of the top10 is form by Awang, Bennett, Andriato, Haller and Farrar

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-04-012.jpg

This means that the Colombian sprinter is the new race leader by only one second! With the rider in third place - Haller - being 26 seconds behind Castañeda, the battle for the GC win is now only between Castañeda and Salleh
