Circulo de Juarez - Stage 2
Aquarius97
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-02-000.jpg

Second stage in Mexico, and as every stage in the race, an almost completely flat one, except for the couple of Cat.4 KoMs on the road. Yesterday Granjel Cabrera won ahead of Rowe and Andriato, but the likes of Haller and Casteñeda will be looking for revenge, after their non-show in the first stage

As yesterday, three riders in the breakaway. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/phc.png Matzka, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wpb.png Barclay and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/prx.png Vliegen. Others riders like pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/0r8.png Novardianto also tried it, but again the rider from Xero was late in his attack and the bunch didn’t allow more riders to go in the breakaway

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-02-001.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wpb.png Barclay and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/phc.png Matzka showed to be the strongest in that breakaway, as both would win each one intermediate sprint and one KoM, gaining both 5 bonus seconds in GC, while the three of them would tie for the second place in KoM with 6 points

With less than 30 km to the finish they had a 1’40 gap to the bunch, so their chances of surviving are non-existent

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-02-002.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wpb.png Barclay would be the last one to be caught with 7 km to go, in a moment where teams like WCC, Sauber or Philips were already setting their sprint trains

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-02-003.jpg

3 km left and the sprint trains are working perfectly now, with Sauber currently looking like the best one. It’s surprising not to see eitherpcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/avc.png Granjel Cabrera or pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/yor.png Rowe between the first 15 places, and remembering yesterday’s experience of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wcc.png Castañeda or pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ioc.png Haller, these two rider won’t fight for the win today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-02-004.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spr.png Awang starts to lead-out Salleh with 1,7 km to go, but pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spr.png Salleh seems to be struggling to follow his team-mate, while in their left side, Lay and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wcc.png Castañeda gain a little of ground. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/yor.png Rowe is being helped by a team-mate and might get some bonus second, although a top place is out of the question, while pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/avc.png Granjel Cabrera won’t even bother to sprint today

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-02-005.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spr.png Salleh is finally opening his sprint with 800 metres left, as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wcc.png Castañeda does the same in the left side of the road. Amazing job by pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/yor.png Corti to bring pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/yor.png Rowe back to the first places, so the British rider might actually have a chance to take the race lead. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/phc.png Krieger has been following all the time Salleh’s wheel, and now has to decide if to follow Salleh’s trayectory or risk to go between pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wcc.png Lay and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spr.png Awang and being potentially blocked

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-02-006.jpg

This is going to be an extremely close sprint, as the top5 are in parallel, without any of them going much quicker than the others. With 250 metres to go is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spr.png Salleh the one who has a minimal advantage, but everything can change, with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wcc.png Castañeda, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/phc.png Krieger, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kul.png Havik and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ioc.png Haller being really close to him, and even the “second line”, with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/yor.png Rowe, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/prx.png Brus, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/gnr.png Farrar or pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kul.png Bennett could do something

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-02-007.jpg

We are defenitely going to need the photo-finish to decide the winner here, with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spr.png Salleh, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/phc.png Krieger and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wcc.png Castañeda and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ioc.png Haller crossing the line almost at the same time

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-02-008.jpg

And it’s the Malaysian the one who wins the stage! Salleh will be also the new race leader, thanks to the 25 bonus seconds he’s won today

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-02-009.jpg

Havik and Bennett, two Kulczyk riders, follow the first four riders, something that will make them wonder what could have happened if they had worked together, finishing ahead of Brus, Farrar and Rowe, while Andriato closes the top10 and the bonus places

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/Juarez/Juarez-02-010.jpg

Salleh leads the race with 11 seconds to Krieger, 12 to Granjel Cabrera - who finished 25th today, 17 to Rowe and 21 to Andriato. Still 3 stages left in the race, so all can change
