I have recently started playing PCM 16, and have started a career with just one rider. It's pretty good fun, but on several occasions I have spotted stages where I want to get into the BotD to secure KOM points - and once the stage starts my rider is one of the worst positioned riders in the bunch.
The BotD is usually 3-4 minutes away before I can get to the front and even start my attack, even if I put 99% and attack, relay or infinite relay before the stage starts.
Is there any way to get your rider to start in a better position to not miss out on such things? I understand the dynamics and such as being realistic, but IRL you never see Voeckler start from the bottom 5 on a stage where he wants to attack from the gun. He is among the 10-20 first, and I would like that for my rider aswell (atleast sometimes).
As there is no neutral start like IRL, I don't see any chance for me to move him forwards before the first attacks, and I can't control my other riders and make them reel in the breakaway.
Any suggestions, or is it just a poorly designed part of the game?
Unfortunately just a really poorly designed part of PCM. Since PCM ignores neutral zones your chances to be in the break can be ruined by random bad positioning.
The only way to 'position' yourself at the front is to be wearing one of the prize jerseys at the beginning of the stage (even if you aren't necessarily leading the classification, just in the jersey), otherwise, you can't do anything.
Would be a smart move by PCM to add the solution of where you want to position yourself in the start of the stage - could be in intervals of 25-30 positions, to give a little bit of chaotic feel anyway.
It really sucks to be part of a 8 stages long stagerace, where the entire race is peaking towards the BotD on the stage with the most KOM points on offer...
Oh well, I guess I just have to be content with the fact that my 20-year old is winning basically every 2.1 and 2.2 races he enters.
