Tirreno - Adriatico - Stage 6
Aquarius97
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-6-000.jpg

Last mountain stage of the race, with end in Prati di Tivo. And bad news, as is raining like in Terminillo stage. We really hope that GC riders can avoid crashes today, and we can have a showdown in the final climb.

Pluchkin is the new race leader, and has 7 seconds on Phinney. Third is Madrazo, but he’s 1’31 behind the Moldovan, and would need a miracle to win the race.

Seven riders are the breakaway, and most of them have already been in a breakaway before in the race

Strange moment when we had a crash in the breakaway, involving four out seven riders there. All riders are ok, but with the first big climb of the day coming up, any stage win they had have vanished.

So in the front we only have three riders;

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/tic.png Costagli
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png Didier
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Van der Velde

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-6-003.jpg

In Passo delle Campanelle, Nemiroff is setting a high rhythm, which has made the group to be reduced to something around 50 riders. And now the gap to the breakaway is one minute

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-6-004.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png Didier has been dropped from the leading group, and now only pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/tic.png Costagli and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Van der Velde remains there. From the bunch, a few riders have attacked, but none of them are dangerous for the stage win or the GC.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-6-005.jpg

And the bunch is starting Prati di Tivo, 14 km, 7%. Luckily for all, no crashes in the descent, so all will be decided in this climb. Nemiroff is setting the pace while they are about to catch what’s left of the breakaway

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-6-006.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Tenorio doesn’t want to wait for Pluchkin/Madrazo to attack and goes from the base of the climb. Other climbers who has lot of time lost, like pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/prp.png Machado, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/jay.png Morton or pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/tsa.png Kritskiy goes with him.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-6-007.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Paolo Scarponi is going full gas to avoid this riders to scape, and with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Pluchkin and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pnd.png Dombrowski has created a gap with the big group

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-6-008.jpg

They have opened a 40-second gap under the 10km arc. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Phinney is having to do the work in that group, and this might be the end of his GC hopes

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-6-009.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Scarponi with his awesome job is making
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Pluchkin and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pnd.png Dombrowski to reach pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Tenorio’s group

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-6-010.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/gzl.png Kruijswijk is doing an incredible job for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/gzl.png Madrazo, but the Spaniard is struggling at the back of the second group. Tough day for him, and he is likely to lose his podium place. And there are still 7 km to finish

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-6-011.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pnd.png Dombrowski is seeing this situation as ideal, and he attacks. He will finish in the podium for sure, but which will be his spot?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-6-012.jpg

4 km to go, and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Pluchkin is about to make his move. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/prp.png Machado has almost made contact with the leading duo, but now is fading a little

And there it goes pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Pluchkin with 2,5 km to go! Dombrowski is having big problems to stay on his wheel

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-6-014.jpg

And Dombrowski craks! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Pluchkin is unstoppable!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-6-015.jpg

Under the Flamme Rouge he already has a 35-second gap to the American. Without any doubt the strongest rider in the race

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-6-016.jpg

Madrazo must do something soon if he wants to retain his podium, as seeing how Dombrowski cracked might help that

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-6-017.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Aleksandr Pluchkin wins in Prati di Tivo!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-6-018.jpg

Dombrowski finish in second place, more than one minute later than the Moldovan rider. He is likely to jump to the third place in GC, but he needs to wait until Madrazo finishes

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-6-019.jpg

Great effort by Machado to finish in third. He was the first to follow Tenorio’s attack. He should claim his spot in the top10 of GC with this perfomance

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-6-020.jpg

Alarcon takes fourth place in the foto-finish ahead of Phinney. The American will keep his second place in GC.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-6-021.jpg

Morton, Lecuisinier and Tenorio arrive with the former duo, two minutes behind Pluchkin

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-6-022.jpg

Terrible day for Madrazo, as he was dropped from that group in the last km, and will lose a few extra seconds. He has lost the podium today to Dombrowski

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-6-023.jpg

The next riders to arrive are Herklotz, Kritskiy and Yates, 3’20 after Pluchkin, and over a minute worse than most of their rivals for top5 in GC

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-6-024.jpg

Bad day for Guldhammer, who is likely to lose his top10 spot, after losing today 4 minutes today

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-6-025.jpg

Pluchkin extends his lead to 2’26 with Phinney and 3’12 with Dombrowski ahead of the final stage, a flat one
