Tirreno - Adriatico - Stage 1
Aquarius97
Welcome to Marina di Carrara, where the opening stage of 2017 Tirreno-Adriatico is being held. We start with a 16-km TTT. Tinkoff and Jayco are the only favourites, as they are here with the strongest TTT team and with a full 8-men roster, unlike some teams, which have decided to send here 7 or only 6 riders thinking of the triple clash this week with Paris-Nice and Classique du Grand-Duche.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-1-000.jpg

The first to start the race is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/prp.png Porto, one of the podium contenders for today. Their time is 18’37.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-1-001.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Evonik is the next, with an horrible time. One minute slower than Porto

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-1-002.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png Strava has done it even worse than Evonik. 1’08 slower than Porto

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-1-003.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png eBuddy is 43 seconds slower than Porto

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-1-004.jpg

So close for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/gzl.png Gazelle! Second provisionally, 11 seconds worse than Porto. Madrazo looks really happy with his team performance

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-1-005.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/tic.png Ticos is better than 2 teams despite their full climbers roster. 51’’ worse than Porto

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-1-006.jpg

But here they come, the favourites, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/tsa.png Tinkoff . And they don’t disappoint to take the lead in the TTT! 4 seconds quicker than Porto. Also, their GC leader, Kritskiy, is the first to cross the line, so there’s a big chance that he will be the first leader of the race

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-1-007.jpg

Good time for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Aegon, fourth best at the moment, 17’’ off Tinkoff’s time

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-1-008.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png SPAR finishes just under the 1 minute barrier, shilghly worse than the other PCT team here

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-1-009.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hug.png Hugo Boss does a decent time, 28 seconds more than Tinkoff, but the big news is that Jose Alarcon was dropped before the finish line, and is likely to have lost time almost 1 more minute. Terrible news for the Venezuelan

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-1-010.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ayu.png Ayubowan is 50’’ second slower than Tinkoff, which will put them around lower mid-table at the end

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-1-011.jpg

First race since 2013 that Pluchkin rides outside of a Grand Tour, but that hasn’t avoided pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Nemiroff to lose 46 seconds with the leaders

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-1-012.jpg

The other big favourite for today is coming. Oooh! By 2 seconds they took the lead! What a battle between them and Tinkoff! Glenn O’Shea will be the leader if the stage finish like this. But again all is not perfect for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/jay.png Jayco, as Morton has been dropped and will lose some time in the line

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-1-013.jpg

With the Jayco win/leader problems, we almost forgot about pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Spotify, who have done an impressive TTT to finish within 20 seconds of Jayco

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-1-014.jpg

Decent day for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Iberia and Tenorio, as they only lose 27 seconds to Jayco. Currently in seventh

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-1-015.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/akm.png Aker lose 36 seconds to Jayco, most of them in the final part of the TTT

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-1-016.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Moser is a bit slower than Aker (42 seconds to Jayco) but currently they hold to a top10

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-1-017.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wha.png Wiesenhof have lost 53 seconds. Bad news for Cattaneo, although this was not unexpected

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-1-018.jpg

Having the ITT World Champion is not a guarantee of success in TTT’s, and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png RBC end up losing 24 seconds. Phinney would have hoped a better TTT for sure

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-1-019.jpg

Provisional top10 for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pnd.png Pendleton’s, barely over 30 seconds slower than Jayco

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-1-020.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Puma breaks in the top10, which is now guaranteed for them, 27 seconds worse than Jayco

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-1-021.jpg

The two-times reigning PT champion didn’t have their day today, as they have lost almost a minute. Not looking good for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fes.png Lecuisinier GC hopes

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-1-022.jpg

And the last team to reach the finish line will be pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Vesuvio. With a 6-men squad, and barely without TTers, it’s not a surprise to see them finish only before Strava. 1’12 is their lose today

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Tirreno/Tirreno-1-023.jpg

Jayco wins the TTT but have lost their GC hopes in the process with the now confirmed 31 seconds lose for Lachlan Morton. Tinkoff in second, but Kritskiy will be in a perfect place to fight for GC. Then Porto in third, with Machado also in a good position in GC, like Madrazo.

The GC guys with the bigger loses are: Alarcon (1’17), Lecuisiner, Cattaneo (53’’) and Pluchkin (48’’)
