Specialisation Explained
dickeygreen
I have tried to find something already in the threads and I'm happy for someone to point me in the right direction..

But can anyone explain the riders 'Specialisation' to me..

Yes I'm still playing 2014 version and no I can't upgrade computer not good enough Sad

It's easy, each rider is specialised in a certain field. PCM divides the riders in Climbers, Stage Racers, Sprinters, Puncheurs, Northern Classics Specialists, Time Trialists and Fighters (i.e. Attackers). Or what do you mean?

Hi Thanks for the info, however I understand that...

But what does each thing mean... i.e.

Climbers = Good at climbing
Sprinters = Good at sprinting
Northern Classics = Good at Northern Classic's

and so on..

I guess my main thing is what is the Stage Racers good at, is it indiviual stages or whole tours?

Just trying to work out good riders that would be good for whole long tours.. Other than the main ones I know from the real sport... Smile

Cheers

A stage racer aims for the overall in stage races, but mostly the 3 Grand Tours because he is very good in the mountains and also good in time trials and recovers well.

There isn't a specific specialty for stage hunters who target specific stages because each stage can be good for a different individual skillset. That said the baroudeur/fighter makes a living winning stages in breaks.

Here are the full descriptions from PCM17 along with a general non-PCM explanation

Northern Classics: Specializes in the rare but important cobblestone races. Great on cobblestones and on the flat. Probably has a decent sprint and not bad on hills.

Baroudeur/Fighter: Big engine on the flat. Jack of all trades master of none. Mostly hunts individual stages from breakaways

Stage Racer: See above

Climber: Flies up mountains. Crap at anything else

Time Trialist: Great at time trials, engine for the flats, the best might not be bad on the climbs but that's about it.

Sprinter: Self-explanatory

Puncher/Puncheur: Great on short hills. Usually also either a decent climber or a decent sprinter.
