I wanted to start a story in PCM 2016 but never got round to it. Once there is a decent patch and PCMDaily DB I will start my career. but for now I will start writing a little backstory. I'm hoping to get a couple of posts out in the next few weeks. Please be gentle as this is my first attempt at creative writing.

Love some good backstory writing (don't let it go on for 18 months with no sign of stopping though ) and this whole thing will be interesting to follow. And +1 to Mre's guide, absolutely awesome
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

I was born and raised in Reading, the capital of the Royal County of Berkshire. I never saw myself as a cyclist. Someone that cycles yes. but not a cyclist. I didn’t love the bikes, the competition, the pain. At school I was a very keen sportsman and only started cycling properly at aged 14 to retain my fitness in the summer away from the rugby and football season. Mr Davis ( my sports coach at high school) recommended it to me as it a low impact sport which required a high level of fitness. “Great for a growing lad” he said at one parents evening. Mr Davis had eyes for me being a starting flanker when for the Rugby team when I hit sixth form so I knew he had ulterior motives for this.
I soon I joined Reading Velo Club who were located the other side of Reading at an outdoor velodrome. For safety all young riders were kept off the road until 16. I was coached in all disciplines of track racing but at that age my awareness and race craft were terrible. I’d always finish in the middle of the pack in the Sprint or Keirin. However where I did stand out was in the Individual pursuit, half hour and hour events. For those it was just me, the bike and the clock. Can I beat my previous best time? It was easy motivation for me and as soon as I hit 16 I went out on the road to compete in the traditional british 10 mile time trials.
The results were good and over the next 2 years and my palmares were posted on cyclingtimetrials.org.uk every weekend. It was hard for British Cycling ignore me and during the summer after my last year of high school I was asked to attend their annual trials for the Great Britain track program. However I was due to attend university in the autumn. A Track Cyclist was not a well paid job and I was in two minds if I wanted to attend. I had very little to lose in attending the trials so I packed my bags for Manchester |
