Welcome to Falun for the Swedish National Championships! The riders will fight for the illustrious jersey on a flat course where sprinting sensation Jonas Ahlstrand is the stand-out favourite,
Faglum Karlsson and Öste-Macdonald are the riders to attempt to defy the peloton today.
The peloton has no interest though and with 5km left the peloton has a commanding lead. Faglum Karlsson takes the opportunity now to strike out on his own!
Öste-Macdonald fights back and catches Faglum Karlsson just in time for the final kilometre!
Faglum Karlsson launches the sprint first but Öste-Macdonald seems to have more power as he begins to pull up alongside.
And Öste-Macdonald accelerates past Faglum Karlsson to seal the Swedish National Championships!
And now it’s time for the time trial, Sweden is known for having a high proportion of time-trialists and the field is fairly equal with Johansson heading Wetterhall, Ludvigsson and Lindgren.
Wetterhall is the first rider off, despite being a contender. He sets the benchmark with a time of 1h18’52”.
Reigning champion Lövkvist is on another good day today but he ends up running out of steam a little in the final kilometres and finishing 45 seconds down.
Ludvigsson is the third rider to start but he lacks form and finishes just behind Lövkvist and 1’07 down on Wetterhall.
Lindgren can’t hold up today either and he finishes in 5th at the line despite being online 1’21” behind.
Johansson is the final rider who can try to topple the leader but surprisingly the favourite finishes in only 5th overall, also 1’21 behind, meaning Wetterhall wins the Swedish National Time Trial Championships!
