Welcome to the National Championships of Croatia, Moldova and Romania. A hilly route lay ahead for the 9 riders making up the peleton, so it will be interesting to see who has the strength at the end.
Two riders formed the day's main break away, with both riders representing Romania. Andrei Nechita (EBU) and Adrian Nitu (VUK) were the two that went clear and it would be last the main peleton would see of them.
On the last lap of the finishing circuit, Nitu attacked his breakaway companion with 5km to go, and being the stronger man over the hills, he quickly opened a gap.
It would be a gap that would give him the victory, finishing 32" ahead of Nechita, who will have to now focus on the ITT tomorrow.
With two Romanian up the road, the neutral service riders had to make sure that the remaining riders came in within the timelimit, and in a sprint to the line Alexandr Braico (UBS) and Robert Kiserlovski (SSC) would take the respective Moldovan and Croatian titles in the sprint.
The road race yesterday gave us some nice battles on the finisih circuit, which each of the riders having an opportunity to take the victory.
Sadly, the match ups were a little more lopsided in the Time Trial, and we saw the first of those in the form of Alexandr Braico (UBS), who comfortably came the Moldovan Double Champion for next season. Finishing more than 4 minutes up on his rival Sergiu Cioban (EUS), it was very easy for the defending TT champion.
Croatia would also go the same way as the Road Race, as Robert Kiserlovski (SSC) would be come the double National Champion for 2017. Not as big of a gap as Moldova, but it would still be comfortable. 1'15" would separate him and Pavel Potocki (TIG).
The only race that was unsure ahead of the start was Romania. Defending champion Andrei Nechita (EBU) just missed out on the Road Race title yesterday, and had his fight for the tricolor on the hills taken something out of him today?
His rival for the TT title was Serghei Tvetcov (YAS), who was on the back of strong season in the CT. Less than 10" seperated to pair over the opening two checks on the road, but the battle would be won by the Yorkshire rider come the finish line. a strong end to the race meant he would take the National TT crown by 16".
