Welcome to the Ukraine National Championships! Only 12 riders will traverse the route today, with home team Visit Ukraine fielding 9 riders, the majority of which will be supporting the favourite Prevar, however Polivoda and Kononenko will race individually. While the other riders in the race are Grivko, Pakthusov and Vasilyev.
Golovash attacks right off the bat and nobody is interested in accompanying him, as part of the 7 rider team the individual riders will have to work if they want to catch him.
Fast forward to 10km left and nobody has been interested in working in the pack, so Golovash has an 11 minute lead on the group now and can think about the win barring disaster.
Unsurprisingly given the race, Golovash becomes the new champion of Ukraine! He has a long time – 13 minutes in fact – to celebrate his win. However the rest of the peloton, who finish the lap after him don’t even bother starting the next one in a pitiful display from them.
With Zmorka not riding this year, the ITT looks pretty set for Golovash to take the double as the best time trialist lining up today, however Grivko, Kononenko and Buts could all give him a challenge if they have good legs today.
A few riders set off early but Buts comes through and pretty much decimates the early starters, gaining 3’14 on the next best placed rider.
Grivko however is flying today, he even catches Kononenko and Grivko takes the lead by 1’06.
Behind him, Golovash is the last rider to start and loses seven seconds at the first check and 14 at the second, he must be tired from his RR win, but can he pull it back on the final section?
He hits the line clearly exhausted, stopping the clock at 19 seconds off the pace! Meaning Grivko is the time trial champion of Ukraine!
